Demonic Existence

PostPosted: Mon Apr 06, 2009 6:36 pm

Brushing the pale hand across his forehead Kana wiped away any sweat, dust or dirt that collected on his brow. The multicolored eyes of the shinobi scanned the right side of the trail, but occasionally surveyed the obstacles in front of the farming caravan. It was quite the mixture of people they had in the group. He and Aya were training shinobi, they were traveling with a group of farmers, and Jonu was a Pirate shinobi thing. Kana stressed his brain trying to think of what you would call a pirate ninja. He quickly dropped the thought once his muscles strained from the heavy cart. The young man needed to stop using the muscles in his head and start using the muscles in his arms and back. Kana's rigged hands were quickly slipping from the cart as the weight quickly wore him down. His muscles began to strain and a sharp pain in his thigh signaled for a small break. He let the cart down slowly to the dirt path and relished the moment of peace for a moment. The Shimagakurian was quickly tiring of this tedious exercise and realized that he had only carried the cart for a few minutes before his break. With a sigh the young man picked up the cart, his muscles crying out to his brain for freedom.

Kana pressed onwards down the trail with unbeatable determination and pride. His muscles tightened as the young shinobi lifted the heavy cart to chest level and pulled as though he were the mule. It seemed as though the young boy had an iron grip on the cart and he began to take rapid and inaccurate steps forwards just to keep up with the rest of the group. A small bead of sweat dripped down his cheek revealing the pale shinobi, collecting grim that had gathered on his skin which made him appear darker than he actually was. Kana took a deep breath in as he took another step for the horizon and wished that it could be his last. Although he complained a lot he was no quitter and tightened his grip on the heavy load. He look deep into the brush for any sign of an enemy or threat to the group but the only thing he saw was leaves and rocks. This was the worst scenery to look at because soon it would all mesh together making a brown and green collage in his sleep. Kana let handles fall beside him with a large clang, he himself seemed to drop a bit to catch his breath. His hands on his knees the young man was bent over breathing quite hard but he was so suborn he might as well have been the mule to begin with. Kana wrapped his fingers around the cart handles and lifted with whatever strength he had left.

As Kana lifted up the cart with whatever strength he had left he heard something pop. The source of the pop was the young mans knee, he seemed to be getting less flexible in his old age. The cart weighed him down like an old man causing him to slouch forward like he was the hunchback. Dropping the cart once again Kana caught he breath in a similar manner as before. Slouching down with his hands on his knees the shinobi breathed deeply and searched for some sort of aid within him. The only thing Kana was remotely good at was being a little b*****d and this didn't seem to help much for the task of carrying the cart. "Man this thing is Heavvvyyyy!!!" Kana said looking up from his crouched position at the others. He could see how the farmers in Shimagakure were so fit, they had to carry such large loads and not to mention equipment. This was something that he hadn't considered before now, except for when he had helped rebuild the rice farm when Shimagakure had been attacked.

Huffing and puffing Kana felt as though they were trapped in a genjutsu as they seemed to be getting nowhere at all! He knew the ways of genjutsu and thought that Jonu would have most likely caught this since he is the leader of the group. At the very least Noburo would have gave them all a severe peck on the head if they were in such a trance. The thought of one of the crazed birds terrifyingly strong pecks to the head made chills run down his spine and the tip of his head ache. Usually when that dreaded bird fought with Kana it would take a bit of scalp, not a lot just enough to cause bleeding. Lifting the cart up quickly and clumsily Kana strained his back, sending a sharp jolt of pain up his right side. "Owies..." Kana said as he leaned to the left to stretch out his side. Being a shinobi he was a bit more knowledgeable of stretches than the common farmer would be since his job description practically called for flexibility. Before returning to the demeaning position of the mule Kana rubbed his biceps, practically praying for some valuable output from them.

The muscular physic pulled the cart waist high before dropping it to the ground. Kana tried to pick up the heavy cart once again but the same outcome occurred. His fingers wrapped around the wooden handles slowly and suddenly he felt a sharp pain in the palm of his hand. Sliding his hand further against the cart only increased the pain and when the young man brought the palm out in front of him he could plainly see a large sliver of wood pressed deep into his hand. Kana squealed for a moment from the sheer horror of the scene. Quickly he yanked at the small piece of wood which only caused it to snap in his hand. Mumbling something quite inappropriate under his breath Kana started to gnaw at his hand, attempting to break the skin with his canines or soak the pestering object from his hand. Small tiers formed in his multicolored eyes as they looked down at the sliver. He poked and prodded for a while until the suborn chunk of wood fell from his hand. Now he would have to preform this task with an injury. Well it wasn't really and injury just more of an annoyance.

Nursing his wound with his saliva Kana somehow forgot about the caravan. He was only interested with the gaping whole in the center of his palm that constantly ached, as if a reminder that the cart could do more damage to him than he would think of doing to it. Sighing Kana wrapped his sore hands around the cart handles and pulled, digging his feet deep into the dirt trail and pulling with all of his might. Gritting his teeth he made blunt grunting noises with each thrust down the path. By this time Kana's arms felt like wet spaghetti noodles trying to out pull a monster truck. The young mans sweat drenched hair eclipsed his multicolored peepers, distorting the path ahead and sticking hair to his face. His thoughts drifted towards Ichi, and how Kana missed his constant encouragements and little tips to get him by. One of the things he missed the most was that faint little chuckle he would give out when you said something funny or you fell straight down on your bum. A feeling of emptiness was held steady in Kana's heart where once was an onlooking proud leader of the Shimagakurian peoples.

The Auburn head dropped low to the ground, locks of hair covering his quickly dampening eyes from surveillance. All of this was for him, every last step towards the Rice Country was for the damn man. The young man picked one hell of a time to reflect on his emotions as he stood silently in a crowd of people with his hands tightly grasping the cart handles. Releasing a stray tier to the ground he created a small wet circle of wet dirt below him. Stamping it out as he walked passed Kana brought his head up towards the horizon with an image of Ichi in the sun, he seemed even farther away from them now than he ever had. Even when Kana found out that Ichi had been turned to stone he hadn't felt grief like this, the dagger that stabbed his heart and sent aching pains through every vein, artery and muscle in his body. A deep sigh came from the young man as he wiped water from the fountains he called eyes. Stepping forwards Kana wobbled slowly, practically falling to one knee.

It had finally hit the young shinobi that the man he had grown to love could in reality never see the beaches of Shimagakure again. Ichi might not ever pat the head of an eager Academy student or use his compelling charm to coax the shyness from the new kid. His heart sunk lower and lower in his chest with each passing thought of maybe the Kage of his village might not ever be able to teach him one more thing. Kana felt sorrow as he had never felt it before and it was just feeding off of his own experiences with the man. In reality the Kage had taught Kana one last lesson, and that was to fight for what you believe in most. Just like Ichi had against all of those pirates, clowns and those damn snake bastards. Inhaling felt like hurricane winds spreading alcohol into a freshly cut wound. The young shinobi knew that this was not what his mentor would have wanted, but it was so hard to hide the emotions that poured from his very essence and memory. How could Kana become a man without a father, without someone to show him the way. But soon as he was walking Kana realized that to be a man is to fight for what you believe in. With this realization Kana walked tall, the stream of tears on his cheeks were like badges of honor to him. Silently Kana said to his teacher "Thank you... For everything."

Aya was quick to react as the cart clanged and the mule escaped during the ruckus. "Got it," Aya said as she took a quick dash to grab hold of the reigns. Her hidden fingers underneath her long poncho and long white sleeves under that, grabbed hold of the worn leather reigns rather quickly. "Woa~!" Aya said bringing her other hand around to try and place it on the mule's muzzle. For just a second it grazed the rough short fur, reminding Aya of the short hairs of Baki's underbelly. That fur was rather coarse now as the lion grew. Aya hadn't had much time to play with Baki before she left... She did miss that energetic and loyal lion.

A swift kick to the shin from the mule acting up snapped the girl back to where she was instead of reminiscing about what she was once doing. She was rather lucking to get hit by the mule's kneed and not the strong hoofs, otherwise she might be needing a crutch for the rest of the journey. "Easy now! Easy now!" Aya cooed, trying to tame the atmosphere for the mule as she continued to pet him on the bridge of his long nose.

As the mule nayed and made the annoying noise the mules do, Aya sighed as it began to calm down. It wasn't flailing about wildly kicking its hooves in the air anymore. The girl didn't think that she would be able to calm it down this fast. She was even more amazed that the owner's of the mule hadn't chased after him as well! Weren't these farmers relying on this animal to move their load? As Aya brought the mule back to the group, she noticed that he had been replaced. Kana was tearing into the ground, which seemed to be a little muddy on this path. It must've rained in the Valley not too long ago. He was nearly down to one knee and seemed to be deep in thought about something. It seemed his hair was slightly in his eyes, so Aya couldn't fully see his face as he worked. "Go Kana!" the girl cheered to her partner as he got the cart to move after patting down some dirt.

It never slipped Aya's mind when she thought of Kana as a hard worker. In the academy they had been called the slackers and he was the trouble maker, but once Ichi had reeled them in, the two of them truly put forth their full potential in almost everything now, especially team work. Even if Aya couldn't physically help him, she would always cheer him on!

Forgetting just what had happened and how timid this mule she was bringing back to the cart was, Aya's little cheer out to Kana had given the mule quite the upstart once more. He reared backwards, kicking up his front legs like he was a stallion, but once they hit the ground his back legs kicked out once, twice and three times. Aya was busy dodging the front legs that she had let go of the reigns once again and nearly was hit by the hind legs and the mules threw itself about. "Watch out!" Aya gasped as she ran to push the younger boy out of the way of the upset mule. Once again, the donkey went running off into the brush. Aya took after it quickly and grabbed hold of the reigns once more. "Hush... SHhhh Shhh Shhh Shhh~" she cooed, hoping that the mule would stop making so much noise.

The mule may be helping since its loud nays would scare away animals...or attract them. Aya felt like this valley was a dangerous place to be in and since Seshiro had known about it, Aya thought that perhaps there were some rather large, venomous snakes about. Having a hard time holding onto the reigns, the mule just got farther and father away from the cart. It was times like these she wished that she had a little companion like Baki or a fire jutsu to block off the mule's path, but she had to make due with her raw skills of trying to handle the animal.

All her hushes and clicking noises with her tongue had done the trick to calm the mule back down. She would now need to keep her voice low and to try and steer the donkey back to the cart and the others. Aya wasn't the least bit lost and could see the small caravan from where she was. She waved over to the farmers to let them know that all was well. "C'mon," she said gently, trying to get the donkey to go the way she wanted back to the cart. The brush was high and Aya picked off little seeds that stuck to her poncho, but she made it back just fine with the donkey. "How about I work on getting him back onto the cart to help you out?" Aya suggested to Kana as she began fixing the leather ropes that had snapped when the mule ran off the first time.

The girl had learned about tying rather good knots from her trip with Tomoko to Haha Island, from the fishermen on her and Kana's first mission to the Lightning country and just now from Jonu's crew aboard his very own vessel. Aya had become quite the expert in knots of ropes, but leather was a whole different story. She thought of all the knots that she did know and tried to think which would best apply to leather...

Kana looked to the ground with a slightly warmer heart, but a much wetter face. Wiping away the streams of water that leaked out on his face the young man mustered up his ferocity. His fingers tightened around the wooden handles of the cart and he began to pull like an ox, taking heavy footsteps down the path. "I got it Aya." Kana said with a charismatic tone. After Aya got done with the ropes and such he connected them back to the cart. "There we go!" Kana said as he wiped dust and sweat from his brow. "I wonder what else is in store for us in this valley!" Kana said with a small chuckle, his un-optimistic mood left behind him. The young man took his position back on the right side of the caravan and looked around him. The Christmas colored eyes looked into the brush for trouble. He took deep breaths to refill his his muscles with oxygen and relieve the intense burn choking him at the base of his throat from the intense workout.

The noises from the upset, yet tamed, beast hit the ears of a deadly pack of predators. Not only did the noise of the distressed animal cause a mighty rumble in the stomach of these black backed animals, but a light foam began to trickle down from their mouth as they stalked towards the prey. As they came closer and distinct smell hit their nostrils; meat. There was something in the area where a band of two legged creatures walked. The stealthy, yet slightly small creatures of this valley walked stealthily around the cart, circling for a good position upon their prey before they were to pounce.

"That was quite an upstart," Tom said as he fell back towards the back of the cart to walk closer to Jonu. Since he was the leader among the group, Tom felt much more safe around him... "I'm surprised that young lad could move that cart out of there," Tom said back to Jonu, trying to strike up conversation.

The young boy walked alongside Aya, his yoyo in his pocket. "You're really good with donkey," he said awfully childishly to her, but it was honestly just his way of being bashful. "I think you're really pretty too. I like your pale hair," he said, his cheek flushing as he complimented the girl.

"I doubt much," Aya said with a smile, thinking that there wasn't much in this valley to fear, but in the back of her mind she thought about the large snake that she had envisioned earlier. As she fell back into formation, she heard a shy little voice perk up. "Thanks! I tend to animals here and there back home," Aya said and then her smiled deepened as she grabbed hold of her hair and twisted around. "You like my hair?" she asked causually and then looked back over at the boy. "I like your nose," she said cutely, poking him playfully in the nose, flirting only a little bit with the younger boy.

As she smiled and kept looking forward, something caught her eyes. Quickly she turned her head and put a protective arm out in front of Tum. She knew there was something in the bushes moving fast. By the stealth of the creature, Aya could tell that it could be dangerous. As it moved she spotted a shadow and got a glimpse of just how big it was. It wasn't big, but it was definately dangerous since she spotted teeth. "Predators! Prairie dogs, I think," Aya said, not too familiar with different types of species, but she thought they were something along the line...

Getting her legs bent and in fighting position, Aya kept a hand back. "Stay close to the cart," she warned Tum like an elder sister would. As she said this, her hand instantly went to her belt where her shuriken and kunai were strapped. Taking two shuriken in one hand, she lashed her arm out at the shadows within the bushes. Aya hadn't lost track of them since she had spotted them, so she knew exactly where they were hiding. Aya was nowhere skilled enough to go for a kill shot with one shuriken to the head. Her aim couldn't hit a dog at this distance even if he was in the clear. She would aim for the body and wound the animal before it even got close. With a whistle, the shuriken flew into the air and disappeared into the bushes towards the area the dogs were hiding.
