Dolce winced, "That must've hurt quite a bit." He never got anything stuck in his throat before, but he didn't want anything stuck there either way. He licked his paws clean before responding, "Me? No. I kinda lost my way...I was exploring you see." He needed to get home anyways. It was probably going to get dark, and then he'll have to wait the next day. "I live in a little cave by the mountains."

Aizen nodded. "It did hurt quite a bit - I was afraid it was going to kill me," he said with a chuckle at the memory of his puphood silliness. He cocked his head to the side as Dolce explained his circumstances and said, "Well, I suppose getting lost while exploring an unfamiliar location is common." He nodded, looked up at the sky, and then looked back at his companion before saying, "The mountains? They're over in that direction, if you didn't know." He raised his right paw and pointed slightly northeast. Aizen had a few friends who lived within mountain caves so he generally knew how to get there. Though, the mountain range was vast and he certainly couldn't claim to know it all.

Dolce chuckled unkindly at Aizen's experience. "That was pretty foolish if you ask me." he said disdainfully. He stretched and sat down again, "If you could lead me to the base of the mountains, I'll be on my merry way home if you don't mind." He wanted to get back to the cold, rockiness of the mountains, and the quiet isolation away from others. He sighed, slightly annoyed at nothing in particular.

Aizen raised an eyebrow delicately at his companion's sudden change in temperament but voiced nothing on it. Perhaps Dolce was simply like that, he reasoned calmly. "Yes," he agreed. "It was terribly foolish." He stood up and added, "And I would be glad to guide you to the mountains, Dolce. Would you like to leave now?" Dolce had spoken as though he'd wished to leave quickly, but Aizen didn't like to assume.

Dolce stretched, slowly getting up, "Well then," he said enthusiastically, "Let's go!" he pranced around Aizen happily, "Aren't you just excited? I get a friend, and I'm going to show him where he lives!" he then ran off into the direction Aizen had previously pointed in. Without looking back, he called, "C'mon! What're you waiting for?! The mountains are just calling our names!" he laughed carelessly, twirling about before stopping to run again.

Aizen smiled and nodded at Dolce's sudden enthusiasm, murmuring, "Yes, I'm excited as well." He dashed after his friend, thoughts whirling. If memory served, he had read a book that included information on something known as the "Illness of Two Kingdoms." This illness placed the individual on a sort of mental pendulum, swinging them quickly and without warning between the "Kingdom of Brilliance" and the "Kingdom of Darkness." Brilliance was a place of joy and happiness, causing the individual to be excitable and positive. Darkness was a place of anger and despair, causing the individual to be mean and negative. Perhaps, Aizen reasoned, Dolce was a victim of the sickness.
He ran along side his friend and questioned, "So, what part of the mountains do you live in?"
((The "Illness of Two Kingdoms" is what Miss Dia Calhoun calls bipolar disorder in her amazing book, The Phoenix Dance.))

((Ah. I see. Sounds interesting. I'll have to go check it out.))
"I live pretty high up I guess." he slowed down as Aizen catched up with him. He didn't want to leave his friend behind did he? "It's a nice place though. The area around my cave is just beautiful." he looked to Aizen, "You'll like it a lot, maybe you could live near me. If you don't have a home that is." he added. Dolce didn't want to sound impolite to his first friend, but he didn't have enough experience to be polite.

((It's a fantastic retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" fairytale.))
Aizen gave a serene smile to his companion and replied, "That's a very generous offer, Dolce. I'd be glad to stay there sometimes." As Aizen had said earlier, though he doubted Dolce recalled, he lived beneath the roots of a great tree near the river where they'd met. However, he could always have two homes - he could travel between them whenever he wanted a change of pace. He gave a nod, more to himself than Dolce, and asked curiously, "You live high up? Have you ever seen snow?"

"Snow?" Dolce tilted his head to the side, "I only see it during the winter, I don't live that high up." he laughed. "It's really nice, it covers everything perfectly, and all you see is the white outline." he turned to look at Aizen, "But then it gets really silent...kinda eerie if you know what I mean." he felt excited he got to show someone else this lovely place called home. "Have you ever seen snow?"

Aizen shook his head and replied, "No, I've never seen snow myself. But I have friends who live in the mountains as well and they've seen their fair share of snow." He nodded and added, "I can understand what you mean by eerie, though. Everything all frozen, white, and silent."

Dolce nodded, "Where do your friends live on the mountain? I've never seen any other dragonfly there..." But Dolce had a reason for that, he had chosen a small area isolated from everything else. It was his own oasis and secret hideaway. It was quiet so he could rest in peace, but it did get lonely from time to time because he never hand anyone to talk to...he shrugged it off, his ear twitching as a fly buzzed around it. "It's really comfortable there, there's no bugs or pests." He grinned, "Living around here, you must encounter a lot of them, don't you?"

Aizen gave a smile and gestured vaguely with his paw to the right. "They live much more to the east, near to the sea," he said. As the insect assaulted Dolce, he gave a warm chuckle and and flicked his tail lightly, explaining, "Well, I've learned that if you bathe regularly, the insects don't bother you very much." Bathing "regularly" was probably an understatement for Aizen - he went for a swim nearly three times a day. He smiled serenely at his companion and asked, "Do you enjoy being alone? I've heard that the mountains are not as densely populated as the forest."

"Bathing?" Dolce glared at the insect, wishing it would go away. "I guess I should go jump into the river then." the black dragonfly turned and sped for the water. Diving in head first, he felt the cool water rush around in his head - and then into his ears. He spluttered, causing more water to enter his mouth. He scrambled desperately for the surface kicking and flailing his legs as hard as he could. Dolce's head finally broke through the surface, coughing and trying to shake the water out of his ears.
"...I guess the insects won't come after me now...?"

Aizen followed his friend back to the river and fought to keep from laughing at the display. Having grown up by the river, Aizen was quite graceful in the water, if he did say so himself. Dolce, however, was anything but graceful. He was a flailing mess in the middle of the river and Aizen could only smile. When he left the water, dripping and shaking his head, Aizen chuckled and said, "Probably not as much, no."

"I guess it's worth the embarrassment then." Dolce hadn't really been near such a large body of water like this river. The most water he had seen were tiny ponds by his little cave. He laughed at his own impulsiveness. "I guess I need to learn to swim."
