The pale doe pondered for a second on the name and upon taking a step she tripped, falling forward and hitting her nose on Night Heron's backside before barely catching herself.

"Oh dear!"

"Oh um..."

"Forgot..."

"Forgot..."

She paused and then took a breath. Oh yes. "Forgotten Feathers!"

The buck took a few quickened steps at the contact, arching back to survey the damage, though she seemed none for the worse. "Forgotten..." He mumbled, "It suits you." In a moment of chivalry the buck decided it was best to stay in front of the clumsy doe. Keeping her from falling on her face became his third priority. "How do you find yourself so far from home, Forgotten Feathers?"

"Thanks so much!"

She wished she was not so clumsy. She wanted to be free and elegant like a soaring bird! ... but instead she was more like a bird falling from the sky because its wings suddenly disappeared and gravity took its toll, pulling her firmly down and if possibly, landing on her face.

She came out of her soft daze and perked up. "Oh! This... cute foxbun... was hopping along the grass and so I chased it... and then I couldn't find it anymore but there was this snake! ... And it scurried around the water's surface so I followed it! ... But then it disappeared into the undergrowth but I heard this song from the tree limbs and there was a little bird singing... but I fell into the water and made a big splash and it flew away!" She took a breath. "So I tried to follow it but eventually it was too far! ... And then I was lost in the mud."

Heron found her voice quite whimsical. She was bright and eager and seemed extremely optimistic. Anyone willing to go as far as she had gone for a friendly chase and a sweet song had quite an innocent heart. It was endearing, or perhaps lethargy was crumbling his reserves. "That's a long way to travel for a simple bird song." A swift lift of the head and a whiff of the nostrils shifted their path along a steadily rising selection of mangroves. "Couldn't you find another bird?"

Forgotten Feathers whined softly and pouted the best a kimeti could, at Night Heron. "So I should give up my dreams? I had my heart set on that bird! I can't just go pick another because this one was just out of reach!" She was all flustered now and stopping frustrations out on the soft marsh below her, trying not to get her feet caught in it and tripping again.

The buck felt a low wave of laughter in his throat, ears flicking lazily as she spoke, now exposing she was indeed a passionate creature. Even if her passion regarded simple things, the metaphor was obvious. "How would you ever catch a bird with your wings stuck to your body?"

"Maybe... maybe I'll just bump into one. Maybe one will come down to aid me. Maybe... it'll be a bird that prefers the water to the sky! I seem to have a knack for falling in it. Maybe... I'll open my eyes and there will be a bird there watching m--"

She could have kept rambling, for sure, but she tripped mid-sentence, making a soft splash in the water. She whined again, she just had to open her mouth and say just this. Sulking, she slowly opened her eyes again.

"Maybe I'm more suitable to just float."

Heron paused at her abrupt end, doing a full turn and observing the buoyant doe before him. She wasn't much of a walker - perhaps she really was destined to the birds. The buck lowered his head, ever so gently brushing his nose against her wing marking, his equivalent to a tap on the shoulder. "Perhaps you were meant to be a swan..." He raised his head and, in a moment of sheer exhaustion and the delirium which followed, sat rump down in the shallow water. He sighed, holding a blank expression. "I was meant to be a Heron. Sometimes the swamp picks the wrong souls."

A swan, she thought. Maybe that was why she kept ending up in the water, but don't those still have the ability to walk normally? She sighed, and after a moment finally came out of that five second depression. "A... heron...?" She questioned momentarily. "Like the water bird? I was aided by a bird...?" It took her half a second... "I caught a bird!" And she bumped into Night Heron, excitement taking over, as she nuzzled into him.

The buck pulled back, though his reflexes were slow. He responded to the affectionate touch with an odd expression and two tightly winced eyes. This was unusual. Water sprayed and grunts were made as the buck wriggled beneath her nuzzle, huffing quietly to himself. "I'm no bird - not yet." He managed, coming to his feet, now slick and dripping with cold marsh water. "But I will be."

Forgotten Feathers paused as the buck managed to his feet and away from her and then sulked softly before standing in the water. She kicked her feet under the water gently, causing it to ripple around them. "Promise you'll rescue me when you are a bird then!" And she hopped out of the water and onto the the grass around instead.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 10:41 pm

"What shall I rescue you from?" The buck offered, quietly thrilled by all of the attention from the gray-winged doe. Yet, much like a bird, so revered by it's follower, the buck managed to skip-hop away from the gentle touch of good intention. He took time to shake himself somewhat dry before continuing on, slow enough for the doe to take careful steps.

"Oh, I don't know. Just listen for my voice and I'll call out for your help!" She whispered, carefully following the buck who seemed to be taking smaller steps with her clumsy feet in mind. It was a sweet gesture. "I do hope you'll aid my call."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 10:47 pm

The buck felt his cheeks go warm beneath his tired eyes. His little, lost winged one -- er, the little lost winged one, was creating quite an impression. "You would have to be close enough for my ears to hear -- what if I've gone too far?" He was full of questions in this state - or perhaps he just wanted to hear her innocent logic.

"Then I'll just have to be louder! Loud enough that it will echo through the hallows of the trees and up into the skies and resonate over the water!" She watched over his back, but still careful not to trip over any uplifted roots on the ground. "If you are still too far then I will just have to wait on a small patch of moss until you find and startle me once again."
