Looking at the cub, Kimiko tuned everything else out for a moment. So white, so much like she herself was... She pulled the cub close, grooming her. "They've... Gone on a little trip... Your brother might be back, though..." At least... That's what she would lead the cub to believe. Maybe the golden cub would come back, a golden adult... But she knew Ripuka wouldn't come back, and she wasn't hiding it.

Not one to be outdone, Ngoma hurried after his brother, hiding under their father's legs. "Who was that other cub? Why did his funny dream make the big mean lion upset?" He looked up, green eyes filled with many questions.

Looking down at the cubs, Makaa, for a moment, was Danzi, filled with sadness, a deep and terrible sadness. Leaning down, he groomed both sons, a rumble in his chest. "Your mother... Had to take your brother to the other side... So he would have a better life... That other cub was your older sister's son... His dream means... It means..." He looked away, ears back. He couldn't bring himself to say it.

"Your mother's never coming back, because rogues killed her." It was the truth, and she wouldn't dance on it, nor would she hide it. They had to know, and they had to keep the ideals of rogues being bad in their heads.

So much commotion, so much noise. A hiss escaped from Kalama as she turned to see what was causing all the commotion. It didn't take the black female long to pick up that something was wrong. Her green eyes narrowed slightly as she heard what they were saying. Her mother....was never coming back!

Her ears flatten against her head as she looked at the adults, not at all liking what was going on. "Mother is not coming back?" She could feel some unknown emotion well inside of her. Her mother had left...left with one of her siblings. And she didn't know about it until just now. Were they not good enough for her? Was their golden brother all she cared about...cared enough to risk her life for him to have a better life? What about them? What about her! A little lioness without her mother, alone in the world. She snarled, "Why didn't we know she was leaving? Why did she just leave us like this?! Didn't she even care enough to let us know! Only for us to find out she is never coming back!" She was seething on the inside, clawing and screaming at this news.

Rap skidded to a halt.

What? WHAT?!

Mother wasn't coming back? Runt might be? How would he get back if she'd taken him away? Why had she taken him? Where had she gone?

The little cub trembled, though if you looked closely it wasn't from fear. His body quaked with rage and grief, a terrible emotion that was so strong he couldn't even begin to hide or control it. His head lifted to gaze at father, then to each of his siblings in turn, watching their eyes, their expressions. His gaze fixed on Kalama and he saw the emotion swelling there.

What was it? Pain? Anger? Sadness? He was little and all of those emotions were unusual and foreign. He didn't understand them. Not one little bit.

He lifted his head, eyes snapping to look at the white female.

Killed? KILLED?!

He'd give her killed!!

With a yowl of anger he lifted his head and screamed. "Shut up you! SHUT UP!! You ain't family. Get out of here!! GO AWAY!!" And his head snapped towards father. "Dad, where's Mama?! Where is she?!!!"

Zapa let herself be pulled to the bigger lioness's side, curling up as she was groomed, content to soothe and to be soothed by the action. Poor bigger-her-color...she was so sad. And when she talked more, she made Papan sad too. She looked up. "Gone where? Can I go?" She was sad that her mother had only taken her brother, but in a way she was glad. If Momma had only taken Sun-Brother, then he'd have to know she loved him, right? "How come only Sun-Brother might come back...?"

The feeling of dread began to creep then, and she tensed up in Kimiko's paws, nit fleeing but no longer seeming quite so eager to be groomed. "Other side..." The other side of what? The only thing she could think of with two sides was the den. The inside and the outside...but wait. There was somethign else too. Momma had told them all...but what was it? She couldn't remember, hard as she thought.

She went rigid at Kimiko's next words, then shook her head and stuffed her nose under the larger white paw. "Killed?" She didn't know that word. Too young to really understand, until Kalama burst from the den. Killed was...not coming back? Was that it? But why?! Everyone was yelling, or crying and she just wanted it to stop.

"Stop...Stop!" She yelled at Rap, scrambling up to face him. "She didn't make momma go...Don't be mad at her!" They all had to stick together right? With Momma gone, wasn't that all they had left? Eachother?

Looking back and forth between the cubs, Makaa was fast becoming overwhelmed. Ears folding back, he placed a paw on Kalama. "DO NOT blame your sister! And the rest of you, be quiet!" He looked around at the cubs, eyes landing on Zapa curled up against Kimiko. He frowned a bit, to himself, then turned to look the others over. "Now, listen. Your mother... Cared about all of you. ALL of you, every last one. What she did, was to protect you, and protect your brother. Now, I want you to all be strong."

Looking up at the male, Kimiko sighed internally. How she knew the loneliness of having only one parent... She looked down at Zapa, gently grooming her ears. She let out a rumble, attempting to sooth the cub.

With the weight of her father's paw on her, Kalama's ears folded back against her skull. She was not happy with all of this. With a few wiggles, she was able to get out of her father's hold. His words, fell on death ears. The very thought that her mother cared about all of them was just something she couldn't bring herself to think of. Pride was blinding and she was blinded by that. That and a fury of never seeing her mother ever again. She was furious about everything. Her mother's gone and took her brother. Her father telling all these words that meant nothing to her.

With a scathing glare at her father, "She didn't leave anything behind for us except her absence. If being strong is simply forgetting that she isn't here or accepting that she ran off with our brother for our benefit, I won't do it! That is not being strong! That is being weak!" She yelled the last part out, with tears welling in her eyes as she ran out of the den and into the desert outside.

She couldn't stand to be there any longer. To listen to those half-hearted words her father was spilling out or her siblings that didn't seem to notice. She didn't care where she was going, she just had to get away. As her paws hit the ground with each stride, the tears would fall behind her as well. Perhaps she would understand the sacrifice her mother made at a later age, but right now, she didn't understand and that made her angry.

Rap felt his anger ignite - spread through him like a sickness. It itched at his paws, urged his claws into action. He wanted to tear something up. He wanted to break something. Dammit he wanted to go and find his mother and his brother and drag them back here.

But they were gone.

Gone!

Seeing Kalama charge off was the last straw for him. He needed to get away too. He needed some time alone. He needed to break something and if he stayed here he wouldn't be able to.

He shot the adults an angry glare, such fury in those burning eyes that it was almost unnatural. But in his heart the grief was there, too, and it was that which was fueling this terrible rage.

"I HATE YOU!!" He didn't mean it and later on, he'd give apologies. But right now he wasn't thinking straight. He'd forgotten, in all this commotion, all this sadness and anger, that his father was right. That whatever his mother had done, she'd done it out of love. Later, when he calmed down, he'd forgive and accept.

But it wouldn't stop him from hating these 'rogues' who had done this and he'd make sure that someone paid for what they'd done this day.

He turned and, in a different direction entirely, dashed off as fast as his legs would carry him. And as he ran a tear slipped down the curve of his cheek - the cheek that bore the same mark as his mother's.
