I'm not trying to convince you that Halo is amazing, I'm trying to get you to accept that merely disliking something does not make it suck.

Hey, I never quoted anyone on that. So back off. And I know alot of people has their likes and dislikes. But no one is going to tell me that just because I think it sucks, does not mean it doesn't. It does to me, and no one can convince me otherwise.

Then have the courtesy to say "it sucks to me". Yes, saying "it sucks" sort of implies it's your own opinion, but that's not what you're doing. Not only did you say Halo 3 isn't a real game, you said he thinks it's good because he hasn't played enough games.

Then stop telling me things I already know. The only arguement I have going on here is that comparing to Halo and a game I did not even mention (MGS) are two completely different games. Yeah Boom made his comment about MGS is for cowards, what I implied is that they are two different games. I could care less if he thinks it sucks.

I never said he has not played enough games, nor Halo 3 isnt a "Real" game. I basically said there are better ones out there than Halo. If he disagrees, then so be it. But hey, it's my opinion. Just like everyone else here, they are entitled to it.

Boom's comment was defensive. He wasn't comparing the merits of the two games. He was comparing how because you say Halo sucks, he could say MGS is for cowards. You found the need to defend it, just like he felt the need to defend Halo.

Quote:
Halo 3 sucks. Play a real game like Unreal Tournament.

Which is insulting.

Quote:
if you think Halo is one of the greatest FPS games on the market. Then you sure are missing out on alot of things that are better than Halo.

Which removes the possibility of him having played everything and chosen it as the best. Again, it's insulting.

You know, I find alot of things insulting. But not videogames.

Intelligence insults me more than that.

Stop this arguing/fierce debating. I just wanted to understand the opinions of other gamers.

And now I start with someone replying in a general mass.

Halo peeps - I'm sorry. But I love FPS's... that are amazing. It's really hard to enjoy something that I've done for so long, just in a new enviroment. Halo is a fun party game to me. It's fun to play in a room with some friends. This comes from my mass hate for the idiot on X-box Live. They annoy me. Since I got into Unreal Tournament far before Halo, I enjoy face-pace upbeat interesting game play. Halo, like someone said earlier, just feels alittle slow compared to others.

On Graphics - I agree that in certain games, mainly FPS, graphics are important. 'Scary' games need to look scary. But Resident Evil 1-3 are ******** scary as ********. And Silent Hill 1&2 make me piss my pants. But when they introduce pretty graphics into that realm... it killed it, in my personal opinion.

In all - I suppose gaming is different for everyone. It's hard for me to understand why people enjoy the things I consider stupid about games, just like it is hard for others to see why I enjoy other things.

And on J-RPG - They suck. Yes. But I'm a story nerd about them. And they do have load to master in them. [I'm an everything collector/stat maxer].

The reviews typically shouldn't be the deciding factor for what you should buy, but you still should read them. In the case of The Last Remnant, most reviews reported serious frame rate issues. It is unbiased to say that this particular flaw is bad, as I don't think anyone wants to lag around in a game.

Myself, I'm a pretty hardcore gamer. I'm also published on Gamefaqs, so gaming is a big deal to me.

As for what games I enjoy, there's no specific genre to mention. I've grown up playing FPS, I actually still have Wolfenstein 3D on a floppy in fact, but at the same time, I like how the RPG genre has evolved over the years, and I still enjoy a decent platformer, even though they're a dieing breed. Really, I only approach games on an individual basis. A game is either enjoyed by me, or it isn't. This rule has no exceptions for certain genres or anything of the like.

As for Halo, the original game was revolutionary. The graphics caught peoples' eyes, the environments were wonderful, the enemy AI was exceptional, the list goes on. I'm no Halo fanboy. I don't even own any of the games in the franchise. However, looking at most FPS titles today, the influence Halo had on the genre should be pretty obvious.

Edit: Seeing as how the innovation Halo brought is up to debate in this thread, I thought I should address this.

Halo was the title that began the phasing out of the health bar. Yes, you do have a health bar in your HUD, but it regenerated. You would take hits, run for cover, recover, and go Rambo again. This is essentially what you're doing in titles like CoD4 and Rainbow Six Vegas.

Another important feature was ragdoll. I don't how many times I killed myself in Halo: Combat Evolved, just to watch MC flail about as he tumbled off of a cliff. This feature really made it stand out for its time.

The last thing that comes to mind is driving physics and implementation of vehicles. There were few FPS titles that allowed the use of vehicles at Halo: CE's release. Even fewer had driving sequences that were enjoyable. At this time in gaming, most sequences involving vehicles in FPSs were rail shooters. That is to say, you were usually defending a vehicle moving along a scripted path. Then you had games that tried to give you control of the vehicle, which usually felt like maneuvering a sleigh with an engine strapped to it, due to the lack of a proper physics engine. The Warthog changed this. Though it was hard to get the hang of driving, the way the warthog swayed as you would expect a real buggy to when attempting sharp turns was spectacular. And not only did Halo make vehicles in FPS titles fun, but it also introduced them in a unique way.

Most FPS titles had a specific level where the vehicle was used, which would eventually end, and you'd never have access to a vehicle until you reached another level involving one. Halo was unique in tossing you the vehicle without forcing you to use it to make it through the level.

So, it's obvious that Halo was important in the history of the FPS genre. It may not fit everyones' taste in gameplay, but it must be given credit for setting the standard of the generation's FPS titles at the release of the Ps2, Xbox, and Gamecube.

Alot of people have different outlooks on what makes a good FPS game. May it be immersion, Graphics, or just overall gameplay. It really is a null debate over quality standards.

I will say however that Graphics to me do not make a FPS game. Not in the slightest.

There are alot of FPS games out there that redefined the genre. Examples above, Quake, with its easily modable engine, and Tribes, with its flight mechanic, teamwork, and character classes.

Graphics to me are nice and all. But it gets old quick. Kinda like a gibilicous perk over abused in private matches. Repetition gets old quick.

Halo did bring alot of things to the table. But it isnt something I enjoyed. Granted, I did play CE and Halo 2 alot, in fact, I held LAN parties for it. But it got seriously old for me. I wanted something new and refreshing, and so I broaden my horizons, and never looked back.

Quite true. It's also to blame for the sharp increase in the casual gamer population. For these crimes, I cannot forgive the franchise.

Ya know, Now that I think about it. I guess the fact that I'm a hardcore gamer [rpg style], I don't enjoy the games that are casual. I play them for goalless fun with friends [Halo only = fun with friends (not x-box live)].

So the truth is, I can't hate game developers who just want to extend the fun of gaming to the casual persons.
