"Because they're evil. All of my kind have healing powers. This one's heart was so black she had lost hers. She needed healed, so she trapped us in shells to try and harness our powers." She looked over at a blue shell on the beach. "I've been in that shell over there for months."

"Yeah...I've still got a crick in my tail. It's so nice to be out though. I've missed my freedom." She splashed her tail out of the water, making a big splash. "Are those things for flying?"

"Huh?" Proteus had been distracted by the fluid motion of her tail. "Oh, these," he stretched out his impressive wing span and grinned. "Yeah, they work pretty well for flying. And picking up chicks."

Naida looked at his wings, imagining what it would be like to see them in motion. "I don't doubt that. You could say my tail might work the same way, except when everyone else has a tail, it loses it's flair."
