His eyes didn't leave the other teen's eyes now as he just smiled. Another question popped into his head, but his mother had taught him to be kind.

"Well any buried treasure would be lost in a pile of sand that if you tried to dig in you would be lost as well." He replied with a grin. "Sand doesn't like to be moved unless it is moving it's self."

Kirinketsu nodded eagerly, "Yeah! I'd heard about really dangerous sand storms in the desert! Are those for real?" His tail wagged slightly in his apparent honesty. "They're supposed to be bad enough to cover entire cities!"

"We got back every time one started up. But I saw that they covered up everything in there way. I really wouldn't want to be stuck in one that is for sure." Spod frowned for a moment. "Alot of things are dangerous in this forest and the area around it."

A much smaller unrecognizable feeling flashed through Kirinketsu's eyes once more, but he smiled and nodded. "I know what you mean. Danger lurking around every corner and whatnot."

Cocking his head to the side, the dragon suddenly guessed, "Wait a minute.... to survive the desert ..... would your parents happen to be elders? My dad used to tell me that only elders could make it in there..."

"Yes both of them are. But I don't think they have ever crossed it." He flicked his tail for a moment. He didn't want to ask about the other dragonfly's dad. "What was your dad like?" He hoped that he was not crossing a line with asking.

Kirinketsu got a slightly wistful look in his eyes as he said, "Both elders? That means you'll be an elder one day too, right?"

'Maybe .... if Mom and Dad had been elders,' his mind began, but he quickly squashed that thought before it began to bleed.

Clearly startled by the turn of the conversation, Kirin blinked and repeated, "My dad?" Inwardly, he was panicking. He had no mask prepared for this sort of talk! He took a breath and smiled. "My dad was a great guy - the noble book-worm sort. He still believed in chivalry and he loved learning all sorts of information about everything - even things he'd never need or do. My mom used to call him a rusty knight in a library." He finished talking in a low voice, the smile set firmly on his lips.

"Yes some day I hope to become like them and be strong." Spod smiled at that thought then blinked. "Sounds like your dad someone that would have taught you everything he knew." He left it there before he had gone to far.

"So do you travel? You said you were only in this area for a while." He turned his head in question.

Kirin nodded, his eyes dark and unreadable. "Yeah. He taught me all that I know. He loved telling stories." His expression cleared into a smile before he added, "But an elder - now that'd be cool. What sort of power do you think you'll have?"

At the question about his lifestyle, the dragon raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Do I travel? Of course I travel. I have no home, so I just wander wherever the wind takes me." He grinned and added, "Though, I try to stick to secluded spots, so I don't have many awesome traveler's stories."

"I don't know. It seems being an elder is more trouble then it is worth. I mean I see what my parents go through..." He looked away now and sighed flicking his tail.

"All I know is traveling is a pain in the a**. Because there is little rest and so much walking." He blow some hair our of his face. "But I have stories."

Kirinketsu cocked his head in curiosity and said, "You don't like traveling? Really? I love it. I love not having roots - being able to just go wherever I want." He smiled good-naturedly and asked with humor, "But you have stories? Stories of traveling or stories of why being an elder is troublesome?"

"Yes, I'm full of useless stories about nothing. About things I have seen and things I have yet to see." He shifted a little and his glove slipped again. He didn't feel like pulling it up this time. "Maybe because I long for something that I never had. A place to live and not have to worry about finding food or water."

Kirinketsu gave a shrug and replied, "Homes aren't all they're cracked up to be, my friend. They only serve as a place to tie you down - a place for you to let your guard down because you believe you're safe." He cut himself off abruptly as he felt the crack run through his mask. He grinned. "That's why I travel close to a river all of the time. I never worry about food or water."

"It is normal for me to go a while without food. My mom doesn't always pick the best places." He blows some hair away and looks off at nothing. "Maybe I have been on guard for too long and just want to relax..."

Kirinketsu nodded. "My mom was a bit of a scatter-brain too," he mumbled softly. Then, as if just then realizing the tense air, he laughed and said, "Well, with all those spikes, do you really need to be on guard?"

"You would be surprised how little my spikes help, and don't help. It is easy to get around them if someone thinks about it. Sure a good hit with my tail hurts, but the spikes are not big enough to really hurt." He looked at his tail for a moment. "Good at picking up leaves tho." He laughed and sighed.
