Another thing that the shinobi had considered was the number of students or genin that he would bring along with him. Unfortunately, Sukotto couldn't be completely strategic in this particular situation. While normally, he would plan on taking either four academy students, two students and one low level genin, or just two low level genin, he knew that a few different issues would arise from each of these choices. Four academy students would obviously be more of a babysitting chore than a tactical operation, two students and two genin would likely lead to some form of power struggle between the separate age groups, and two low level genin would likely scheme against Sukotto himself, compromising the entire mission. Because of each of these reasons, the Uchiha decided to take one academy student and one low level genin. A few of the problems that he had thought about before could still exist, but he assumed that this group would be the most capable of meeting his expectations.

Even though he had the skeleton for his team selected, Sukotto still needed some sort of incentive to allure the candidates that he would choose to bring along. Although the aspect of an adventure beyond the boundaries of Shimagakure could potentially be enough for some of the academy students and low level genin, the Uchiha needed to think of a backup plan in case they refused his offer. The best thing that he could come up with would be to tell them that he would give them better and more advanced training than the higher ranking shinobi would. If they didn't believe him, then he would merely show them either his Phoenix Flower ninjutsu or his Phoenix Form taijutsu. After explaining how he invented the Phoenix Form on his own, he could assist them in inventing their very own technique, which would put them way ahead of their peers. A few books from the library would be all he would need to properly train the underlings and give them ideas for moves of their very own creation.

If giving them the opportunity at adventure, training that was beyond their age group, and their very own technique wasn't enough for his recruits, then Sukotto wouldn't have looked hard enough for them and he would merely shrug them off. The danger in that would be a large group of youngsters reporting him to the elder shinobi. While he could deny a small group's accusations, he wouldn't be able to refute the charges if a large number of children began reporting the same story about him. He would need to be tactful and precise. If he felt a hint of detection, then he would have to simply abandon his plans for constructing a team and go at it alone. This was an absolute last resort, since traveling alone would be a very risky move. He wouldn't be able to sleep in the wilderness without the possibility of getting attacked while he was defenseless and there would be no aid for him if he became ill or suffered an injury.

Unfortunately, Sukotto knew too few of the younger ninja in the village to make any sort of selection without first observing them. In all actuality, the Uchiha didn't really know the genin in his age group all that well either. They seemed to like him well enough, but mainly saw him as one would see a quiet and hardworking coworker rather than a close and reliable friend. However, that was a different story altogether, and he desired to remain focused on the matter that was at hand. After he finished learning his new taijutsu, he would have to snoop around the academy and various training grounds to scout for the talent that he needed for his team. At first, he thought that this would pose a potential risk, as teachers and higher ranking shinobi would likely be present. But if they noticed that he was looking around, he would just inform them that he wished to help the younger ones train and they would most likely be more than delighted at the offer. This would place the Uchiha in better favor with the adults and effectively give him a better opportunity to see which students were capable of what.
The Uchiha hadn't even realized that he had been working so hard, since he had been caught up in his mind thinking about his future mission. His legs ached and his body felt numb, but he knew that if he could squat a heavy rock so many times, he would definitely be able to complete the rest of his training schedule. Sukotto was truly devoted to learning the taijutsu form of the Phoenix.

After leaping the bar that he had set for himself, Sukotto made his way back to dry land and then up to the top of the cliffs. The next item on his training schedule would aid the Uchiha in to flowing his chakra into parts of his body that would be used in his new taijutsu. Since it focused on powerful kicks and fast movements of his arms and hands, his chakra would need to be adapted accordingly. To do this, he decided to strike find a sturdy tree and strike it with kicks. During this, he would practice moving his arms in ways that would be useful for defense. He would exert some chakra while training, so there would be a possibility that he would need to take a few breaks to restore his energy.
Reaching the three telltale J-shaped trees at the edge of the cliff, Sukotto stepped towards the one that he had once used his chakra to ascend while he was in Shuga's old squad with Seshiro and Kouri, and selected it for his training. He took a basic and balanced stance, concentrated a large amount of chakra down the length of his legs, and then dashed at the tree, unleashing a powerful spinning kick after leaping out of his sprint.

To his surprise, Sukotto kicked the tree with a very powerful force, effectively shaking the entire length with a single blow. He figured that he was going to hurt himself by trying to hit it so hard on his first attempt, but by releasing all of his energy without holding back, he effectively struck it without any negative affect on himself. If he continued to make such progress, he would be finished with this stage of training in no time.
Deciding that hesitating for a moment longer would decrease his chances of having another success, Sukotto attempted a quick but powerful snap kick on the tree. While he knew that it wouldn't break the large timber, he figured that it would be important to try speedy strikes on the target as well. After all, the Uchiha was primarily going to utilize fast, agility based strikes against opponents. If he wanted to completely focus on powerful kicks, regular taijutsu would have sufficed.

The tree failed to yield to Sukotto's snap kick and didn't even budge whatsoever. He managed a bit of luck, as the tree didn't cause any pain to his leg or foot. Sukotto figured that the heavy amount of chakra that he had saturated the muscles of his legs with had primarily been the reason for this. He had never focused so much chakra in one limb before this day and he was beginning to like it very much. It was a very interesting concept, but he didn't plan to concentrate so much chakra into his taijutsu, since the reason that he was developing it in the first places was to reduce his reliance on chakra while in battle. The reason for training himself this way was to practice with large doses of energy so that the smaller doses would be much easier to manage in an actual combat situation.

After one more well directed snap kick, Sukotto managed to knock the tree around a little. He found that different kicks required him to focus his chakra in different ways. The way that he had to use his chakra with the snap kick attracted the Uchiha's interest. He had used it in such a way in that it increased the actual speed of the kick instead of simply the power. In battle, this increased speed would make the strike more accurate and at the same time, much harder to dodge. If he landed a speedy kick such as this on an opponent, the increased acceleration would also power up the blow, delivering more of an impact.
Immediately after his successful kick, Sukotto quickly attempted another snap kick, hoping to train himself to use the complex chakra concentration in rapid succession. Unfortunately, he allowed a little too much to flow, causing him to kick with bad form and nearly lose balance. Using the new method of chakra flow would take the genin a lot of practice to master well enough to move onto the next stage of training.

Sukotto quickly realized that he would need to train his body and chakra network to work together more efficiently after he didn't even budge the tree with his follow up kick. His taijutsu would focus on speed and he would be using speedy combinations to confuse and distract his opponents, eventually wearing them down so much that they wouldn't be able to fight anymore. He would also need to be prepared to dodge attacks frequently, since it would take so long for his weaker attacks to finish his opponents off.
He attempted another quick kick with his opposite leg, but to no avail. The trouble was that he had difficulty in controlling the level of chakra that flowed to his leg. He had to flow just the right amount along the length of his leg, making sure the timing and position was right at the same time. The Uchiha would simply have to continue practicing.

The shinobi took a moment to look over his stance and adjusted it slightly to see if he would be able to focus his chakra more effectively while in a different position. He took a deep breath and relaxed any muscle that was seemingly tense. This task was particularly difficult, considering how cold it was outside, but he knew that he would make little progress if his body wasn't calm and simply had to overlook the weather.
By simply tweaking his stance a little, Sukotto significantly increased the swiftness and power of his kick, effectively shaking the entire tree. It was obvious that this stance was much closer to what he would base the taijutsu around. While he wouldn't find the true stance until the next stage of training, the fact that he was able to increase the efficiency of his kick with a seemingly small adjustment would aid him very much in coming up with moves, strikes, and blocks for his taijutsu.

Sukotto decided to once again follow up his powerful kick with another speedy one, hoping that the new stance would allow him to do what he was unable to previously. The strike that he had used previously had been a side kick, so he attempted an inner crescent this time around, knowing that it would be both quick and powerful. He hadn't quite mastered flowing chakra through the speedy snap kicks in succession, so he figured that it would be easier to do so by using a slightly more complex, yet noticeably slower kick.
The kick landed with a great force, causing the large wooden beast to lurch forward against the cold breeze. Without hesitating, Sukotto immediately launched a snap kick in hopes that he would be able to put together a combination of kicks together. If he did, then he would consider his training nearly finished, if not, he would merely readjust himself and figure out what needed to be improved.

The Uchiha's speedy kick thrusted towards the tree, striking it soon after the successful crescent kick had smashed against the hard and rigid bark. In the short moments before this snap kick landed, Sukotto had a surprisingly long amount of time to think. He wondered what Ichi would think of him training so fiercely and developing a taijutsu of his very own, having done all of the research and design by himself without the help of an elder shinobi. Truly the Kage would have been proud and the young Uchiha could almost see the subtle smile that would have crossed Ichi's lips as he learned the news of his foster nephew progressing so well.
The thought of his former sensei made Sukotto's heart race and aided in enforcing the thrust of his snap kick. For the first time in the entire training session, the Uchiha landed a successful follow up kick that incorporated the speed of a snap kick. He would attempt a snap kick with the other leg to increase the might of his assault even further, but even if he wasn't able to land it, a combination of three successful kicks was all that he had hoped for in this training session.

However wonderful the thought of Ichi was, it wasn't without its sour spots. The terrible feeling that had gripped Sukotto earlier in that day was beginning to emerge its ugly head and quickly swept over his entire body. He attempted to focus on his training for a distraction that would divert his attention from the pain within his heart, but it was a very difficult task, even more so than squatting with a large rock held over his shoulder. Sukotto feared that if he didn't successfully land this next snap kick, he wouldn't be able to drown the negative emotions with his training obsession.
Fortunately, the Uchiha landed the snap kick, shaking the tree as if it were a mere sapling rooted in the sands of the shoreline, tossed around by the powerful waves. He planted one of his feet and quickly pivoted his body in a circular motion, aiming to land a spinning kick on the tree and effectively whirl the painful thoughts out of his mind by causing himself to become slightly dizzy.

As the shinobi spun around in place, he focused on Ichi's smiling face and gentle voice, asking the man to guide his foot to its target. Deep down, Sukotto knew that it was silly to think of such things, but it still managed to increase his heart rate and adrenaline output, so it wasn't a complete waste. Besides, he was an emotional sap and those kind of thoughts made him somewhat happy, even though they were very bittersweet.
Sukotto found himself caught in his own thoughts and failed to notice the small patch of ice that his foot was nudging towards. As soon as it made contact with the frozen water, the genin slipped and, since he was carrying the momentum of a kick, spun to the ground. He allowed a deep sigh to escape his chest as a chilled tear streaked down his face, nearly freezing before it dripped off of his skin and to the ground. After planting his hands on the cold, rocky surface of the cliffs, he lifted himself to his feet and wiped his eyes dry, ready to continue training.

Without so much as a second thought, Sukotto angrily swung his leg at the tree, with no particular form or intent other than releasing his emotions in the form of chakra through his limb batting against the tree. His appearance at this point was much different than it had been during most of that day's training. An enraged smirk cracked his lips and his brow was stressed and furrowed, creasing his forehead. The genin also tensed his body and grit his teeth as he unleashed the hasty attack against the tree. For these few moments, the hateful feelings inside of him had engulfed the teen's entire entity.
To his immediate surprise, the Uchiha successfully smashed the out of control kick against the tree. A large cracking sound erupted, drowning out the sound of the wind and waves for a seemingly lengthy moment. He stood staring at the hulking plant, as if he had accidentally injured a close friend of his with a disrespectful technique that he took overboard. A chill squirmed its way down his spine, leaving him frozen in place.
