Szinaun's heart sank, and with it he gushed a unintended disheartened sigh. His green eyes fell to the floor in his dissappointment. "Ah. I see. Forgive me for asking." It had been stupid of him to even bring it up. The odds that he would meet anyone at all that would be capable of even knowing where he was from, much less knowing someone he knew, was phenominally unlikely.

He lifted his eyes from the floor after taking a moment to recompose himself and place his heart back in his chest where it belonged. Lifting a hand, Szin ran his fingertips through his lavender hair slowly.

"You took a great risk Lady Pellaneari by showing me that pendant. How did you know I would not betray you?"

"It's alright." She was surprised when Szinaun had apologized to her, but not at all surprised to see him looking quite disappointed at her answer. Who wouldn't be? Nearly any worshipper of Eilistraee who found themselves still underground would probably be feeling pretty desperate after a while. Pella knew that was true for her.

"I.. I didn't know at all." She cast her eyes away for moment, a little embarrassed by her recklessness. "I wish I had a reason for you." The healer's lips turned in a small frown. "I really shouldn't have done this."

There was nothing she was expecting to hear from him. Right now her only hope was that she had not caused this stranger any troubles with his Mistress. A little foolish curious part of her wanted to ask what it was like up above in the sunlight, but she couldn't bring herself to dare. Even if she hadn't upset him already, asking for stories would certainly be too much.

There was a moment that followed that was filled with a great amount of awkward silence. Szinaun glanced up, then away from Pella every few moments. Finally he parted his lips and spoke. "You must have hoped for something when you revealed yourself to me...My Mistress will not miss me till morning. Please, if there is something you wish to speak about feel free to ask. I...I have...no reason not to try and see what I can do for you Lady."

Szin gestured to the bed with one hand. "May I? I am...very tired..and would really like to sit down for a bit Lady."

"Of course, please sit." Pella felt a little odd not having thought of that herself. She had watched him working and running about all night after all. And he was right of course too. There was definitely something she had been hoping for, whether she wanted to admit it or not.

"I don't know what to ask. I don't really want anything from you. It's enough to know I'm not really as alone in this pit of a city.." The healer shrugged, "I always thought I would make it to the surface one day to be with our kind. Now I don't know anymore if I even want to try. The more I stay here the less will I have to try to leave. Have you.." Her words trailed off, leaving her hands to gesture hopelessly, "been above?"

Szin sank himself down onto the bed and leaned his shoulders back against the wall. It felt good to be able to relax and allow his sore muscles time to unknot. The female seemed earnestly uneasy, and Szin could only faintly smile at her due to his wearniess. He really was not up to putting forth much effort to be too compassionate or encouraging right now.

Pella's question, about the surface gained her a wider smile..and a faint bitter bark of a laugh. "Oh..ha...ha ha..." He weakly laughed. Lifting a hand, he placed his fingers over his chest. "Forgive me. It's just... I was born on the surface. I spent most of all my life on the surface. You speak of lack of will to ascend. I feel something akin to that, though it's more of a crushing despair that I'll never be able to return. This pit that you call it seems to wear at my heart every day. The sky fades in my memories, the cool breeze is forgotten. I can barely remember what it was like to lay on the soft grass and smell the clean scent of the harvest."

When Pella hear Szin's laughter, she was first taken aback at the bitter tone. But as she listened to him speak she could almost feel just how amazing the above world must be to wear on one's heart this way. "Born above?" The healer was surprised, "I can tell from the way you speak that those are good things. I just can't comprehend them.. I imagine.. well, a lot of things." Her voice trailed off sadly.

She had noticed his weariness. The look of pain wasn't strong, but the compassion she could not hide as a healer took over. He might reject her help. That didn't matter. Their Lady, she knew, would spread favor over even the smallest of gatherings of her followers. It would be wrong to ignore him when she could offer aid. Pella rummaged through a drawer to find a small salve jar. The deep purple jar marked with a small healing rune held a translucent blue paste, bitter smelling but a potent muscle relaxer and soother of the mind. Pain might not be healed but it would become a soft memory.

"Here," She sat the jar beside him on the bed with a small smile, "I think I mixed several cases of this today."

"It is..." Szin soly murmured. "It is most beautiful and wonderful." As he spoke, Szin placed one hand gently over the bare part of his chest. His fingertips gently strokeing the dark flesh. "I think you would have to journey there and see it for yourself. Just as I could not begin to understand or imagin how things were down here until I was brought myself." Szin paused in his speaking to blink his green eyes at Pella. What was she doing? Rummaging about in her bag? Despite how tired he was, Szin's curiousity was perked when Pella cane to sit beside him and offer him the small jar. Taking his hand from his chest, he reached out to accept the small jar. His head tilting slightly to one side as he squinted his eyes at it.

"What is it?"

"Hmm." Pella was wondering over Szin's words. What would it be like to be brought down and discover the Underdark for the first time? The harshness of it would be staggering. The thought of sun and air.. it was something she desired while feeling afraid of at the same time. Even the sensation of moving to a level higher up in the Underdark itself was noticeable to those who came from further in its deep reaches. "It must be overwhelming, the differences up above."

"It's a general pain reliever and relaxer." Pella chuckled, "I don't think I could last down here very long if I weren't able to be a healer." It was the only profession she could really stomach. Healing gave her a chance to be considerate and attentive in her own way.

Szin inspected the bottle with his weary curiousity. Tilting it from side to side he glanced over at Pella from time to time. "It is." He agreed. "It is almost devesatating. I've felt myself dieing a almost slow death since... well, it doesn't matter." He allowed his fingers to gently feel along the edges of the jar that he had been given.

"Thank you for this. I am sure it will help immensely." His lips curled into a honest smile. "So you heal people? Thats a very admireable skill. I was once..well..a adventurer I suppose it the proper term. I and a group of others once traveled around to help others who needed aid. You seem like the sort who would have fit in well."

It was warming to see the smile when Szin thanked her for the jar. Being a healer led to some of the most honest and straightforward transactions one could find between drow.

The concept of what Szin said next made Pella widen her eyes. Being able to travel and openly help and give aid? She would immensely desire to serve her Goddess that way. But amongst these worshipers of Lolth.. It was nearly as difficult to envision as was the sight of sun over the grass and trees.

"That sounds like something that would get me hurt or taken advantage of pretty quickly- down here I mean." She rolled her eyes, "If only I weren't usually so afraid, that does sound like a better way to live."

With curiousity, Szinaun gently opened the bottle of salve. His green eyes took in the contents as he continued to faintly smile at Pella. "I can believe you when you say that. I wish I were in a position to help you. But I'm afraid I am not." Lifting his pinky he lightly dabbed at the contents.

"I understand your fear. I live with it daily. But do not distress too much Miss Pella. At least you are still free to follow your own path." *Lightly replaceing the lid, Szin looked up at her and smiled a bit more fully. "I do have a suggestion for you. As a healer your skills are indispensable. You could apply to a surface raider company and travel with them to the surface. They could lead you up, and then you could attempt to warn whomever they are targeting of their pending raid."

Even though she knew him to be a follower of her Goddess as well, Pella could not help but feel some welcome and glad surprise when he mentioned the wish to help her. "I appreciate it, though I know you must be in a greater need for help right now than I. My own 'mistress' has no real claims to me."

Her brows furrowed in consideration of his next suggestion. It was a new one. She had not thought of this way to reach the surface and part of her considered surface raiders and other drow who made the journey above to be too dangerous. Looking at Szin, she knew that to be true. They had no qualms about taking one of their own kind back down as a slave. But still, being above would be amazing to experience despite any risk involved.

"That.. that would be much more desirable if I could manage. Thank you for that. Aiding a priestess of Lolth," the healer fairly spat the vile term out, "does not feel quite worth it more often than not. The horrible things they do.. I fear you know much better than I."

Szinaun choose not to speak more on his position. It was depressing enough to live it. He did not wish to harp on it to the only ears that had a care to listen and sympathise. She could not understand everything, just as he could not for her. All the same... It was so very nice to have at least one pleasent encounter. No mtter how brief.

"I am happy I was able to give you a good suggestion. I hope you will have a chance to take advantage of it." Shifting himself, Szin's body ached in protest as he started to rise to his feet.

"I am sorry that your talents go to waste on the poor misguided servants of the Spider Queen. Perhaps between now and then you could focus on helping those that seem...well...a bit more open to another way of thinking? I am sure you could find sympathetic ears amoung those that are abused by said priestesses. But...I would not know really. Conversion was something that the Priestesses of our Goddess tended to."

Szin paused, then tilted his head towards the door. "I think I will hazard returning to her room now. I am sure she will be asleep by now, and I would like to rest before the morrow starts."
PostPosted: Sat Apr 04, 2009 9:08 am

The strange meeting had been short but Pella felt glad to have met Szin. A kindred spirit in this heartless city was rare to ever come by. She smiled sadly at his words, "Yes, conversion is not something I have done. Though, maybe.. I think the Goddess is telling us tonight that what we think is impossible is not so for her."

'Surely,' Pella mused to herself, 'it was in Eilistraee's will that I show that pendant to him.' The Dark Maiden's hand brought her servants together. Pella's faith had been sorely tested before tonight and now she felt convinced her Goddess had intervened to renew her spirit. Maybe she had done the same for Szin.

Szin was right, it would certainly be better for him to go back to his mistress while he safely could. If only leaving this treacherous underground place was as simple as having the will to do so!

"May the Goddess keep you safe, and return you up above."

Szinaun paused before the doorway in order to listen to Pella. Despite the weariness he had felt, and the lowness of his heart; he felt enough encouragement to turn and smile back at the female. "I believe you are right Lady Pellaneari. I will certainly keep in mind that the Goddess does not lose her way in the dark, and even so deep down here and away from the moons pure light, I am still in her heart." Szinaun tilted his head downwards, his green eyes closeing as he would bow lightly to Pella. "May the light of the Goddess illuminate your path and lead you to her embrace Lady Pellaneari." Szin stood from his bow, and again gave her a small smile before he let himself out of her room.
