Do you really think Silent will name her baby what we vote on?
Nah... but it's a fun thing to do, and she might get some good ideas.

I saw this thread erlier and thought of a good name for a girl, Shoshannah. Any of the boy names I can think of are to generic. Your baybe should have an interesting sounding name!

Shoshannah is a good one Tomo, I like it. I'm not a fan of girls' names, but I like the Y names: Yael (Yoel for boys?), Yocheved, and Yaira (yah ee rah) to name a few. Hadassah and Tzipporah (I like the variant Sephora, but then I found out it was a make up store sad ) are also personal faves. Yay for the women of Genesis and Exodus!

Boys names are a lot more fun to me. I like Gideon the most, but Eliyahu (Elijah), Ephraim, Gavriel, and Yonah are all SWEET in my book. The harder it is for non-Jews to say it, THE BETTER. wink

The harder it is for them to spell the better twisted

That'd pose a problem, because they're only about 30 Jews in my city biggrin

I do like the y names, they're hard to spell and say

Shoshannah is hard for people to say AND spell. xd

I like it, but I'm kind of biased since my Hebrew name is Sha(y)na....

I do also like the names Isaac, Mira/Meria, and Tal (not really sure why- I just think it sounds cool)

And while unusual names can be interesting, please remember not to be cruel to your kid. (Basically, don't name them Wolfgang von Vladimir or something) blaugh

Don't worry, lol, I won't be that cruel. My friend, family and I are getting together for name discussing...Although it'll be kinda awkward, I'll let you guy know what names they liked. 3nodding

Not as bad as my friend. He's married and his wife and him have differences of opinions in regards to baby names.

However I am siding with my friend, the Husband who wants to name their children after notable members in his mixed Scottish/German family ancestry. That and Krull is a very nice name for a baby boy.

Besides, his wife is a major Harry Potter fan.

So yes, Hermione has entered the hat for girls and we already know what happens if she has twin boys.

Now then, my Sister... who married and converted pagan.

Her last name is now Danaan which is the shortened variation of... Tuatha de Danaan. Translated from the Celtic, it basically means "Land of Fae people."

My sister, much like me, is a big history and religious studies major. So she named her first child a Grecian word for "King" with my brother in law picking the middle name Alexander.

However the word for king was from the crete language where modern day Khania is. The place was Kydonia, founded by king Cydon, which said in the proper Cretan inflection became Krydonax.

So my nephew Krydonax, who we all call "Kritter," has a name the translates out as "King Alexander of The Fae Lands."

So what's in a name?

Her kids are going to get teased in Kindergarten. neutral
I love the folklore and mythology from the British Isles; I feel connected to it since I share blood from pretty much everywhere there. (My mom's family got around... and then I get my Japanese blood from my father's side.)
I spent a year and a half reading about fairies but I've always felt those neo-Pagan tree huggers with their wands and spells were a bit odd...
I'll stick with the Irish peasantry and you can keep your wands, k?

Silent, I'd stick with the Hebrew names or something you feel that's meaningful without jumping ship.
I think I used that saying right...

Totally a fan of Aaron.
Albert, Alan, Alexander, Ariel, Alec, Amy, Adrian, Axelrod, Andrew, Asher, Ace .... Uhh... I'm out of A names. sweatdrop

Also, I've heard my share of just interesting names: Linli, Tru(e), Eliza, Valleria, Dolores ... Uhh.. I'm out of those, too ... xp

Names don't have to be conventional names, either. In Walk Two Moons, the protagontist's middle name is Tree. Some celbrities do it, though Apple and Moon Unit aren't good. However, Miley Cyrus' real name is Destiny Hope Cyrus.

Just be careful. Kids can find anything to make fun of in someone's name, but don't make it too easy for them.

I remember seeing something on VH1 or something about Celebrities naming their kids something stupid like 'Tomorrow'.
I remember some funny comedian saying something silly about that one~

I once saw a comedian (Gary Goldman, or something) talking about Humpty Dumpty. "If your last name is Dumpty, you cannot name your kid Humpty. That kid never had a chance!"

I also saw on 'My Name is Earl' when Earl was trying to help this guy John who blamed his parents for everything. "And they made my Middle name Lou. John Lou! I have two toilets in my name, Earl! I never had a chance!"

I'm sure you'll give the kid a chance.

Many of us seem to have the most bizarre taste in names.

Like have you ever heard of someone named 'Lumanny' or most names on these avatars?
