Sand burned on her eyes. It was unpleasent, but only hurt a little. Not a lot of the sand got into her eyes as she managed to close her eyes quickly as a reflex. While blinking, a hard force knocked against her legs, causing her to tumble forward. For this moment, she breifly thought that she was glad she wasn't male. Horns would have been disasterous. Clear of sand, Mkimya blinked her eyes. She was stunned for a moment. Determined though, she tested her legs. Being fine, she took off into a dash after the pup.
Spotting the bright blue pup, she slowed. She'd upset the young thing somehow. "I'm sorry for upsetting you pup... Can you tell me what's wrong...?" She asked softly, downheartened. She hadn't ment to upset the poor thing. It wasn't her inention...

Uzuri looked back, with a cold look upon her face. She turned her head to the side, relaxing her eyes downward in a depressed manner. "I can't go back there; not like this; not now." her paws trembled.

Mkimya gave a sad smile. "You're so young..." Mkimya whispered to herself. She was amazed and sorried. "Why can't you go back?" She asked lightly. She knew she was prodding, but she was worried about the pup, no matter that the dog had attacked her only moments ago...

"If she sees me like this, she'll leave!" her tone was stiff and heartless. "Just like everyone else......" her eyes wandered off into the night, searching for shadows that weren't there. "I can't show my face to her like this! She's already done too much....if I ask for anything more, she'll regect me! I don't want to be alone again!" fresh tears streamed down Uzuri's face, and she stared wide eyed at her paws as they landed on them. She was disgusted with herself, for allowing herself to get in such a state. She could feel it; she just knew that her history would repeat itself, no matter how hard she tried. There were moments where she would lay at the den, debating whether she should just leave one day. She knew how she worried her caretaker; she knew how concerned she was whenever they were together. Uzuri felt it wrench at her whenever she saw Janja smile sadly at her. She wanted to relieve her of that burden so badly, but she was cowardly, and didn't want to leave the comfort of the den.
Uzuri glanced down at the beast's leg. "Why are you here?" she propped herself up on her two front paws. "Shouldn't you be running away from me?"

Mkimya waited quietly; patiently. She sat on her rump to listen to the pup's sullen explination. She could hear the underlaying sadness and fear in the pups voice, even though the pup robably didn't want her to hear it come out that way. The pup was weeping, and she didn't know what to do except talk. "I'm here, because I believe you need someone to talk to..." Mkimya said softly. She didn't further the explination. "And I believe your caretaker wants you there, but I'm now expert, just a worried mother." Mkimya paused, letting her ear flick slightly. She smiled at the pup, not a sad one, just a smile. "Do you want to talk more about her, of just anything? You can scream at me if it makes you feel better..."

Uzuri's lower jaw trembled; she had let herself ramble on to a stranger. She wondered whether to let go of her delicate pride and tell this beast of her life; and what's happened. She wanted so badly to tell someone, instead of just circling the story over and over in her head. "I......well....." she looked off, sighing deeply. "I'm not.....I'm not from here. I did have a famliy......once....." she tried to relax herself more, but her muscles were far to tense. "I was younger......m-m-much younger." she trembled slightly, wanting her body to cave in on itself. "My mother was disgusted at the sight of us." she smiled coldly. "She hated us with every fiber of her being. I remember how she looked at us when we were near her; such hatred. It was....tangible." Uzu tilted her head to the side, holding back any remaining tears. "My father took us away from her; she had tried to kill us." she looked up into the beast's eyes. Shaking her head, Uzuri recalled what happened next. "But my father didn't care for us any more than she did. He was just more.......subtle with his methods. He would leave us out a night, and in the middle of animal herdes, pretending that he forgot we were there." she felt her stomach wearily. "That's when I first saw your kind. Although.......it wasn't pleasant. I was kicked in here," she motioned to where her paw lay. "and when we returned home, crying and beaten, our father looked at us with no pity. He stretched out his claws and attacked us as if we were strangers." her eyes widened hystarically. "blood was everywhere. We ran wherever we could, as fast as we could." she raised her head to look at the beast. "I could hear him laughing as he held the limp body of my brother in his paws." she closed her eyes for a few moments, regaining the small amount of control she had left. "After that.......it's just a big blur. I stayed with different families now and again; they took pity on a lone pup. But they were all the same. The first sign of weakness and they shoved me out the door." a fresh stream of tears rolled down her face, but a small smile soon appeared. "Then I met her." Uzu's face was peaceful, for once during the night. "She is my light; that's why.....I don't want to lose her."

Mkimya listened, just listened. It was the best thing to do in such a situation. She couldn't defend her kind. Some of her kind could be just as cruel as any other creature. Listening to the story was heartbreaking. She could almost feel her own heart breaking in too, but she stayed silent.
When the pup finished talking, Mkimya nuzzled the center of the pup's head. "I'm sure you won't lose her," Mkimya spoke softly, not wanting to break Uzuri's story. "You'll be able to tell by small gestures. I don't know your caretaker, but I'm sure she has some reason, her own, to keep you with her. How about... I walk you to your home...? Let you... clear your thoughts a bit."

Uzuri lifted herself silently, wanting the company that she offered. Her legs were shaky, and her head whirled with too many emotions, but she had level ground to stand on now; the quicksand that she had been trapped in had disappeared, and she felt as if she was able to move on with her life, if even in the slightest way.
Walking back beside a creature that she had tried to kill earlier felt good. The cool night air blowing through her fur calmed her head a little, and she could think clearer with the adult by her side. In these ways, Uzuri really felt that she was young. And she loved every bit of it.
