Sebastian grinned at her over the table. "Just teasing. If you look, there are plenty of single people around." To which he gestured to the groups of girls standing and groups of boys sulking in corners. "You and I, though, I suppose it's good we're so alike. We at least make a good image." he said. Truth was, they did match fairly well. Her neutral dress and his deep brown suit. Both of them had black hair, and their wings were black. The only difference in them was their stances. He was a doctor, naturally at ease and exuding a comforting presence. She was a warrior, and her erect posture screamed it.
Samyule smiled. "Stag, unfortunately. There seem to be many attractive ladies about....perhaps you know of one I could attach myself to? Informally of course." He said with a wink. He had moved to her side, giving the obvious impression that she was the one he would be standing by.

She wondered if anyone she knew would even bother to come. MaryAnne watched others join up with people they knew, others claiming seats of their owns and the low murmur of chatter filling the room, mixing with the music from the chamber orchestra. She knew the words to the song and sung quietly to herself, leaning forward now in an unlady-like posture, arms over her knees, feet on the floor. She'd felt eyes on her, but couldn't tell from where. MaryAnne nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard Fern call her name. She rose to her feet, wings folding together again - they're unfurled slightly with her start. The blond smiled and held out her hands to the fae, blushing and shaking her head in protest to the other's compliments. "Oh, no! Fern, look at you! Amazing - and this dress! The details! My goodness - it's the finest work I've ever seen! You look breathe taking, darling." She laughed, turning the other girl around to see the full effect before hugging her. The angel motioned around the room slightly, and spoke again, "What do you think? The academy's people did really well. Really, really well." She laughed at the understatement, marveling still at their surroundings; a part of her mind tried to picture the building without the lavish decorations, but found it difficult - it was like it'd been made just for this occasion. She found herself looking around the room again, watching - sensing the interactions of others.
Sorry that took so long xD

Evangeline reluctantly grinned back. He was in such a good mood, it was hard not to. " I suppose that's true." She said, settling on a happy medium when the other responses in her head seemed to be leaning too much to one side or the other. She fiddled with her dress a bit, smoothing it out over her crossed legs. She found it sort of funny, actually. That no doubt they were considered together as they were sitting by themselves, and Evy felt almost awkward talking to him, as if she had no idea what to say. That was something new aswell; she'd always been good with words.
Ella blushed even more, and began twiddling with the pentagram at her neck. It seemed subtlety had no place in her life. " Well, I know Danni is alone, remarkably. Of course, I don't mind either." She sent him a grin.
Colin smiled down at Rosie. " Of course. Would you expect anything less?" He asked with a grin, tugging playfully on her one of her well-crafted curls.

"Well, fae dressmakers, you know... go crazy over this sort of thing." Fern dismissed it all with a wave of her hand. Staying close to her friend was the important thing in this large place of people and magic, not being flattered and full of herself.
As MaryAnne looked around the ballroom, Fern eyed certain things, and just knew there was something of an enchantment about. But, if MaryAnne didn't know that, who was she to reason everything and say she'd seen some of these tricks before at home? "I know, it's certainly beautiful. Are you waiting for anyone in particular tonight? I came alone here..." Alone, sugar-high, and looking beautiful. Fern didn't see the harm in coming alone, but a part of her kept looking out for a certain face, a certain someone who might just make her world stand still.
Rosie shook her head. "No, of course not. You look nice either way." The ballroom was so large, and so full of people... Rosie suddenly felt a bit nervous. "What do you want to do?" she asked him, liking the idea of just staying close to him and being taken along for the ride.

"Sebastian glanced around him. People were still greeting each other, hugging, meeting awkwardly with dates. He and Evy had seemed to have reached an impasse with their conversation. The music was playing softly, and the ballroom floor was empty except for those meeting up. "I know you probably didn't learn this from the military balls, but what if I were to guide you in an innocent waltz?" He asked, standing and holding out his hand. It seemed like such a waste to let the music go without anyone dancing.
"Ah," Samyule said, grinning wickedly at her frustration. "So you wouldn't mind if I asked your friend Danni, then?" He nodded to the young girl in question, sure she knew what his game was about. He remembered her match-making prowess from before and hoped she would understand his aim.

Danni grinned, then sighed and looked down at her wrist to check an imaginary watch. " Oh, I'd love to Yule, but its time for me to go charm unwitting males by the punch bowl. Perhaps some other time?" She winked at him and waltzed off. Ella rolled her eyes. " Looks like you're stuck with me, then." She grinned. " You look great by the way. Very unique and dashing."
Evy looked at his hand for a moment, before smiling very slightly and pressing hers into his. " Alright. No need to let this pretty music go to waste." They headed off, and she felt almost hyper aware of the looks the Fallen male and female were getting. " Damn wings." She mumbled, and not for the last time.
Habitually a late comer, Gavin, who was dressed in his best white shirt with silver runes for the detail, dark breeches and soft indoor leather boots with silver decals, strutted in alone. He glanced around in interest; the scenery reminded him of the balls back home, though the easy chatter and laughter was a first. He looked around, and let a grin come over him as the elven boy made his way over to a chattering fae and her angel friend.
Colin smiled and gestured to the nearly empty dance floor. " Can you waltz?" He asked with a grin. It seemed he and Rosie were off in another world, barely even noticing Ella and Yule chatting next to them.

"No, all by myself, I'm afraid," she murmured softly and supressed a sigh, clasping her hands behind her and pressing her palms together. She watched as a few brave couples drifted into a waltz on the floor and she unconsiously began murmuring the lyrics to the music again, though not in English. She swayed softly, her gown moving with her slender form, brushing the ground. Her memories flashed and she smiled, her father's arms around a smaller, much younger her, waltzing through a similar, but so much different, ballroom. MaryAnne brushed a stray lock of hair away from her face and she seated herself, leaving enough room for Fern if she wished to sit, also. She blinked and paused as she spied a boy walking over to Fern and herself; she didn't recognize him, either, but she did feel that he wasn't human, unlike a majority of the students.

"Well, since I'm so much taller in these heels," she said, already walking to the floor with him in tow, "It might be a little hard. But, I'll try." Rosie and Colin resumed a dancing posture, and began a slow, somewhat awkward waltz on the dance floor. There was no hiding the smile on her face or the glittering of her eyes as she looked up at her date, who she thought to be wonderful and just as good as the pressed and shining men who were also there.
Fern turned in time to see Gavin walking right towards them, and just like that, the fae felt a certain calm overcome her. It was odd, like her thoughts suddenly stopped frantically fluttering against the walls of her head and became orderly, clear. Maybe it was an aftermath of that anxiety that overcame her when he was near. "Gavin!" she said, with excitement, but not nearly so high-pitched. "It's been ages!"

Gavin grinned, and bent into a very graceful bow, capturing her hands in his and kissing the back of it. " Cormamin lindua ele lle." The elven flowed easily off his tounge. It was good too, as he would be far too embarrest to say ' My heart sings to see thee' in English. He beamed at her, spun and swept into a bow for the Angel that was next to her. His demeanor was all elven noble and still completely himself. He smiled amiably at the blonde Angel, but reserved a comradly grin for Fern, who appreciated such things.
Colin grinned, spinning her about with ease. The dancing became easier, and they were soon turning about elegantly on the dance floor, despite their substantial height difference. There was little else to him but her shining face.

MaryAnne wasn't able to catch herself from gaping in amazement at the elven man. Her blue eyes were wide, blinking fequently as if she couldn't believe it - especially at the change she felt in Fern. Her faintly painted lips were parted until she shook her head subtly and stood, lowering herself into a polite curtsy. "Sir," she bowed her head as she curstied then straightened and pulled her capelet off the back of the settee. "I'll excuse myself for a moment - I believe I bypassed the coatroom on my way in and I'm finding myself parched. Would either of you like anything?" In other words, she was going to give the two a moment alone.

Damien sighed slightly. Formal events have never been his forte. He readjusted his tie for the ten millionth and one time that night before he slowly walked down the pathway, his temporarily white wings out stretched slightly.
God was he nervous. He had a feeling that there would be a lot more people here then what he was used to, but he'd have to live through it, even just to make his elven friend happy.

"Ooh, some punch would be lovely. I'll not turn small, but it'll keep me from crashing." Fern's hair was braided intricately back, though she still brushed her forehead to catch an imaginary strand behind her ear. It was a nervous habit of hers, to play with her hair and tie knots, though with it mostly pulled back, she had nothing to play with.
"Thank you, MaryAnne," she added cheerfully and with a whole-hearted grin.

Gavin continued to smile easily, clasping his hands behind his back. " I could get something for you ladies if you like and drop off your cape if you wish, my lady." He said in his lyrical tone, adressing the Angel. He wondered if his 'show' had made her nervous somehow. ' Or she understand elven.' He mentally flinched.

"No, no. I'm a big girl," she giggled, and tipped her head. "Thank you though, the offer is appreciated. Please, catch up with Fern. I'll return shortly." She turned and glided away, only accomplished with hours of practice in her strappy heels. So help her, if she fell down tonight, she'd never be able to forgive herself. She tried to focus on her walking, but couldn't help but pick apart what the elven man had said. In her early years of study, Elven had been one of the courses she'd taken, but she remembered very little. Could he have really said to Fern what she thought he'd said? The blond angel giggled and blushed faintly for her friend. Skirting the ballroom floor, she handed over her cape to the coatroom attendees and began to make her way towards the buffet for Fern's drink.

Fern's rosy cheeks turned to Gavin, smiling. Her new friend, it seemed, was quite attentive to these types of situations. Had it been Fern, she wouldn't have known what to do. Even then, she just said what she felt.
"Well, don't you look dashing and clean! You look so stunning, Gavin. Truly." It was a genuine compliment, but one she found hard to say, as if she was almost afraid to say it at all. But, well, what nonsense to hide the truth from him like that!
