Chepi couldn't help but laugh. "Doea isn't a pet or anything like that, nor does she get ordered about. In fact Nili orders mother and father about a lot. Doea and Nili don't get on too well. Nili is fathers bird. My brother has a bird too as does my sister... well actually she has a rabbit." Chepi rolled her eyes as she said that.
"Our clan has special animals as it were, birds link us to the sky clan as Adi has a strong connection there, the rabbits connect us to the earth." Chepi tried to explain some of the customs that had been introduced into the clan by the parents.
Chepi had never really thought it odd, as she was born and had always lived with the birds about. She could never have one, she would try to eat it. She didn't mind her brothers bird, he was different. The amount of times she teased Nita about how she was going to eat her rabbit.
"Doea probably won't leave, we have to find a way to escape, she will not leave. Trust me, her and Nili are so stubborn it annoys me!"

"Oh." Eeva responded. "Now that I think about it, my father had a friend who was a bird. She helped him reach the lands when he was younger. She left before I was born, though. Wanted to see the world, that sort of thing...I think." She shrugged. She'd much rather spend time with her own kind than faff around with other species. She didn't dislike them but...it just seemed odd.
"Rabbits and birds? Sounds like your clan is a mix of all sorts!" She replied. "I don't think we have anyone but lions in our clan...maybe that'll change someday." She shrugged.
With a nod, Eeva stood and shook herself gently, trying to ease the ache in her body. "Seems like birds are more annoying than they are worth." She took a step and crouched beneath a low hanging branch. "If we follow this back we'll reach the stream. I've never crossed the water before, but there's an old den there - too small for a big lion but perfect for us - If we find it we could lose her in there and come out the other side. I think it's an old rabbit warren that got abandoned because of...flooding." She explained.

Chepi didn't find it odd at all.
"Not really all sorts, just lions and then our special animals." She smiled, knowing that the birds and hares weren't actually part of the clan as such, just protected from being hunted by those in the clan.
"Sounds like a good idea!" She smiled before looking back up at the sky. Doea was still there looking for them. Why did her parents have such awesome cubsitters? They always managed to find her and her siblings no matter what they were doing and where they were.

(( sorry for the long wait! I haven't been able to get online much lately ;o; ))
With a quiet nod she moved as silently as possible through the undergrowth, moving low so that it would be harder to see her. Luckily both girls were natural coloured - as was normal with the Ela'wadiyians - and it would help them move far more stealthily than some rogue lions.
"This is sort of fun!" She whispered. "Like a game of cub and mouse!" She smothered a giggle into her paw and continued onwards. "Once we reach the end of this tangly plant stuff, we'll need to make a short run to the warren." She warned.
A few minutes later and the end of their journey undercover came to an end. Eeva hesitated at the edge and pointed a paw towards a small hump in the grass. "See that bump? That's where the entrance of the warren is. We'll need to dash towards it. Are you ready?" Nervous, excited blue eyes skipped between her new friend and the destination.

Chepi followed trying to be as quiet as possible though she was smaller and didn't move wuite as elegantly as her friend did though she was still able to move rather quietly and that made her proud enough. She just nodded in reply to everything Eeva said just in case she spoke too loudly.
When they reached the end she looked to where it was that Eeva was pointing to and nodded.
"Yep I'm ready" She whispered.
She then waited, Eeva would have to go first because she was infront. Oh this was so exciting!

"Okay then, here we go!" And with an excited squeal she flung herself into the fray, aware of how vulnerable she was without the cover of the bushes and shrubs that had hidden them so far. The grass was soft and spongy beneath her feet, the air clear and pure. She knew, to the centre of her heart and soul, that there was no better place than this.
With a cry of delight she headed for the hump in the grass, not daring to look up in case the bird was wheeling down upon them. But if it happened then Eeva would do all in her power to protect her friend from the insistent cub-sitter.
Suddenly the entrance to the warren was before her without hesitation she skidded inside, falling down the slope into darkness.
Was Chepi coming? Had she been caught? Eeva lay, poised.

Chepi watched as Eeva ran. She watched the older lioness move and smiled. She moved so quickly!
Chepi then looked up at the sky, she could see Doea but she wasn't near here, not at the moment and so she made a run for it, not really watching where she was going and so she ran straight through the grass and into the warrn and straight into Eeva.
"Oops sorry!" She giggled, at least she had managed to get in here and hopefully without Doea seeing. They could hope right?
"I think we did it, I think we may have lost her!"

She laughed as Chepi ran into her, rolling back onto her side from the force. "You made it!" She blinked and dared to hope she was right, peering up at the little slither of sky she could see from where she lay. "You think so? I hope so!"
She pulled herself to her paws and shook the earth from her fur. "Right then! Let's see where this place goes! We'll be alright! We're Earth and Shadow and this place has lots of shadows and lots of earth!" She giggled and moved forwards into the darkened tunnels.
"This...should come out on the other side...but I never went too far because there's lots of different tunnels. But with the two of us, it'll be alright!"
She bounced. "Now the bird will never find us!"

Chepi chuckled. This was like the best adventure ever. They had nearly got themseles killed trying to annoy some prey and now they were going to get lost in tunnels, awesome! Chepi couldn't wait to get home and tell her mother though she might be more weary of her father, she wasn't sure if he would get the excitement of nearly being killed and then getting lost, infact he would probably tell her off.
"Yeah she won't follow us in here, there is like no sky or room to fly nicely. This is perfect."
She looked around though she had to strain her eyes a little as they adjusted to the darkness. Oh she was looking forward to their second adventure of the day. Chepi decided that Eeva was definatly one of the coolest lionesses about.
"Do you really know where this leads? Not that it matters, an adventure is an adventure!" She smiled, she was just curious, it would be more fun if they didn't know where they ended up.

She nodded in agreement and peered at her new friend through the tresses of fur poking out between her ears. "I guess there's only one way to find out, right?" She beamed. This was too much fun! She didn't think she'd meet another girl who liked to adventure as much as she did!
Chepi and Eeva certainly did seem like two peas in a pod.
She gave her friend a nudge and moved down into the tunnel. It was darker and more confined than she remembered, but wasn't going to let that stop her. However, after a moment or two she was forced to drop to her belly and shuffle her way further. She tried to look back but couldn't.
"This is a bit of a...tight squeeze." She squeaked, eyes widening as she realised she wasn't going anywhere. "Eep. Chepi! I think I'm stuck!" She dug her claws into the earth and tried to drag herself forwards, but the tunnel was hugging her middle tightly.
"Uh oh..."

Chepi followed squeezing her way through the cave, it really did seem to be getting smaller and smaller.
"Your stuck? How did you get stuck?" Chepi had noticed it was getting smaller but being smaller then Eeva meant that at least she had managed to not get stuck and was still able to move around easy enough.
"Erm... what should we do?" She really wasn't sure what the best way of getting someone unstuck was. However she did come up with an idea, though she wasn't sure if it would help at all.
"Okay erm... stay still." She hoped this would work and started digging where Eeva's back feet were. Hoping that if she could give them some movement then Eeva might be able to get out.

Don't panic, don't panic. Whatever you do, don't panic! But it was too late, Eeva could feel the walls of earth pressing against her, suffocating her. There didn't seem to be much oxygen down here anymore. She couldn't breathe! She wished she could turn and see Chepi's face, wished she could see something, anything other than the tunnel that held her captive.
She wriggled, but to no avail and strained to hear her friend's muffled words. "What are you do--?" She paused as she heard the sound of digging and a wave of relief washed over her. Trust Chepi to think of a way out of here! Yes, her parents could say anything they wanted about her other friends, but not Chepi! She was a life saver!
"That's it! I think it's working!" And she dug in her back paws and pushed hard, forcing herself forwards. Some of the wall crumbled in, but as it did so, it released her and she found she could carry on dragging herself. Panting, desperate to reach fresh air, she carried on dragging herself along the tunnel, taking pleasure when it curved upwards. Upwards towards light! Clear air!
She paused. "Chepi, are you alright? I think we're going to make it!" And then she saw it, the orb of light just above her head. And a second later she came up into the daylight again, gaspign and spluttering to clear her lungs.

Chepi was all in all fine. She infact felt rather proud as she had managed to just save someones life. The only thing that wasn't fine was the fact that she was now caked in mud but that would wash off eventually and so she followed Eeva some more, making sure that she wasn't going to get herself stuck either.
As she saw the light she smiled. It was nice to get out of the cave. It was so dull down there and she realised in that short time she had really missed the sun. She really did love the grass as well. Yes no more going in deep dark tunnels for a while... or a day at least.
"Yes I am fine, are you okay?" She spoke as she pulled herself out from the tunnel and shook her fur. It felt heavy where the mud had decided to cling to her. She probably looked awful!

Eeva shook clods of earth from her own fur, smiling as her friend emerged into the sunshine. Wow, what an adventure this was turning out to be!
"Ah I'm alright! It'll take more than getting stuck underground to spook me." Though...it had been a little scary. She opened her mouth to speak again when a roar rose up through the air, sending the fur on her back straight on end.
"Uh oh...Daddy sounds mad. I've probably been gone too long. I best head back. Um...but we'll meet up again soon to play, right?" And she smiled widely, brushed some more mud out of her fur and made her way back towards the den, knowing it would take her a while to get there.
"Bye Chepi!" She called, glancing back over her shoulder. "See you later!"

Chepi smiled, she was glad her friend was alright and was about to reply when she heard the roar.
"Yes I will see you soon! Bye!!" She smiled as Eeva ran off and so Chepi turned and trotted home, wondering why her parents didn't mind her wandering around for as long as she liked. Odd.
