I wasted lots of time with Final Fantasy V..
First, I waste like 5 hours by getting raped by shinryu after somehow skipping the last 3 save points. The next day, after I was back to the save point before the boss, I accidentally overwrite that file and lose around 60 hours total.
Eh, it wasn't so bad. I restarted, did much better, am now up to 52 hours and already completed the game + sealed temple + cloister of the dead + all secret jobs.

I let a friend play my copy of Fire Red because he was bored and he had offered to catch the legendary birds for me. When I got my game back, I found out he had killed Zapdos and used my master ball on Articuno.

Not so big of a deal but in Kingdom Hearts:RE:Chain of memories, I saved separate files for each Organization member. Then when I started Riku's game I saved over the Axel file which was hell getting to.
And I felt like I wasted all my time in Mario Kart DS, just to have it's memory deleted twice by my niece.

I've had plenty of screw-ups with games. I remember that I've accidentally saved over high-level characters in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2, and I have lost tons of mission progress in Thief: Deadly Shadows because I neglected to save the game for long periods and end up dying and having to go back to my last save.

I saved over my brothers file in OoT. I got scared so I hid the game, and forgot where I hid it.

Then my DS broke D=

auS-e-Dude Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. Red battery. I kept on thinking, "I can do it, just a bit more." Then when I got to a save point, the power cut out. In the middle of the save. Bye bye file. biggrin EXACTLY what happened to me on Tales of Phantasia... I JUST got to the future and went to save and during the middle of it, my GBA died... And that game is LONG!

Playing Super Mario Bros. (the first one) on my phone with an NES emulator, I tried to load a state when I died, but because of the small keypad, I actually accidentally overwrote and saved the state at death. Now, when I load it, I instantly die...

I was playing my blue version.
I had all the ledgendaries except for mew. All my pokemon were over level 70.
I decided to start a new game for kicks. I wasn't going to save it or anything, just mess around.
I ACCIDENTALLY SAVED OVER MY FILE.
I cried that day. crying

This was a community screw up. What happened was that my little brother was playing Majora's Mask, and he had to kill the guy in Ikana Cavern or something. The guy who blew up when you zapped him with light, or your sheild or something.
Anyway, so the first time my brother fights him, the guy died in literally 10 seconds by the biggest fluke in existance, and then my little sister comes along and says, "I think you screwed up," and like idiots, we all believed her, so we restarted the machine, and it took us forever to kill him again. XP
