I say let kill everyone off at the end of 2009. Me and one of Mai characters are getting married soon and I know me and Mai kids are going to be a new type of race for the guild. Let all plan for this because I know it is hard for Angel to play both Angel and Crow. Plus some of the other members have loads of character they are playing under just because they can't find someone else to play them. this is my final idea I'll let you all choose and I'll just follow along.

Sad to see this place die while I'm gone, and I feel bad I've only been phasing in and out these past couple years.
An overhaul sounds nice, and maybe this sunds a bit drastic, but hear me out.
How about a clean slate(ish)? Not as in getting rid of the past, but an event to put the past into the ground and start anew(ish).
Example: Be rid of most (if not all) the current threads. But them in the archive and rename the archive to "RDS History" or something. State the bar got burned down, or an event occured that would cause us to start a new thread for it. Any events occuring right now that are big enough to force people to read of our past, remove of them.
People who are interested can look at our past if they want to, but are never forced to. Personally, places with big pasts scare the crap out of me and make me feel the thread or guild is like joining a close-nit group of friends.
Additonally, I sadly have to agree with Yawgy. When I joined the first time, I found it easier with a strong driving leadership. And now its like the general is gone and the lieutenants have to scramble to lead us with time they don't all, if any of them do, have.

I See a definite issue with RDS. Not even gonna lie.. Even though ive been working.. SOOOOO much.. when I actually do get to go on.. I find RDS Is slowly dying. Hell was sad.. It was my favorite place.. This came just after.. Its nice to know sango is back and trying to revitalize hell.. Im gonna try to help her.. I also would like to help here.. but honestly.. Without angel.. I really dont know a way to keep it going.. Perhaps a war? Like an Ongoing war though... Adds to the plot.. Like.. RDS followers meet at the RDS bar.. but have a second group of people.. almost like two warring tribes.. Would have constant fighting, plot changes, chance to expand/recruit Gives us options.. then again.. Who am I kidding.. Im a soldier.. not a leader.

Ok no more talk. most of the RDS members have kids by now and me and Mai are working on getting some of our own. Let move the guild to the next stage. This is not the first time I seen this happen. Yes all of us will have to remake new characters or play as the kids you brought into the world. We can get all this ready by summer when there is more people on.

I agree, I'm all for jumping forward but I'd rather not have all the known faces and characters dead just for the sake of a fresh start. That in itself would raise too many questions such as "Why did all the adults die and not the children", "How did they die when most of them could litterally live for centuries in good health", Also there would be no way in hell that I would agree to that.
If you want to kill off you character then fine, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

I'm just going to say this plainly. No. I've already expressed my disinterest in a time skip. The problem is NOT the history. The problem is getting active members and using the 'this place has a rich history' argument just isn't going to work with me. Why? Ziven. She didn't start here until years after it was open and most if not all of our characters had a big thick history. Yet she wiggled her way in perfectly. Why? She's a good role player. That's what we need to look for. More good role players, people who can ingrain themselves in the story no matter the circumstances. We do not need a time skip. So to put it simply, recruitment will be vastly more beneficial than time skipping for some arbitrary reason.

Yawg i expressed the why she fitted in nicely yes she is a great role player i do not deny that not in the least of my comments. There's a key point WE helped. I'm not saying this for the sake of being egotistical god forbid if i say such. But my point is simple If a character no matter how good he/she is, if there's no interaction from us with new players what will the drive of this new player will be? down to plain boredom. If we, yes I'm saying we because i won't point fingers and such WE interact with new users, new being, new people, then this player won't be bored or "scared" of rping with us. Yes even a lone wolf can interact with others, i won't accept "my character is a Lone/d**k/evil/ etc.." comment because there is no validity in that. If there's only small circles and yes i am repeating for the sake of emphasis, no user big/small, good/bad will join is that simple. If we want user to hang with us we cling to them not us veterans. Tell me if this is wrong or not.

I think all we need is to get some fresh mea.. err blood in this place. Many of the people here are people who have been here for awhile now. Their stories are known and seem familiar to us now. New members will bring in new talent, new people to interact with and also new stories. The roll call that I've been seeing talk about is a great idea! But I think maybe we need to widen the net a bit. What about all the members who haven't been on in MONTHS except to say that they're too busy to really be active? Or the people who did post over one hundred times and haven't been here at all?
I know I'm not well known around her, but that is going to change soon. My character is going to start branching out and going other places. It just took me awhile to play out her development to the point when she would be able to do that. I'd like to keep this place going but I'd also want it to feel like a place that we want to go and a guild that we're proud of.
Btw, Dax ya might want to put ooc somewhere in the title so someone doesn't show up and b***h about that. ^^;

I have read what everyone wrote here and I do feel really guilty about being away so long. I never wanted that and I really couldn't help it. We have been through so much with this guild and we always shined through and we will rise once more.
I was invited to Hell by Sango but I'm not interested. That was where I started and what happened there was the whole reason I made this guild. I love this place and I care for my members....and I am here.
Now....for as long as I can be. I am getting stronger in my health and I am trying to get over some other things in my life but this place.....I've missed and it's my home away from home...my sanctuary.
AND I AM NOT GIVING UP!!!
I tried to do contests, and clubs, and tried so hard to make the guild exciting and active for everyone that I complicated it all and I started to dread coming on because it was so much work or there were so many fights but I think we weeded all the drama out so....as I said....I am back....and I am trying to breathe life into my characters....the ones I still have anyway.
Hope to see you soon......Thanks....
Angel

If I may,
and please don't be offended and I'm very sorry it's so long.
I've been trying to read at least a little of everyone's posts and here's what I think:
1) HISTORY The history isn't SUCH a big problem however, it was a little uncomfortable at first. It was hard to get an RP going because the older members would always have their own business going on and the plot just didn't have room for you. I know this as a fairly recent member which is why I spent most of my time in OCC. Even though I DID RP once and a while, the people who I RP'd with eventually dropped off and I no longer had people to play with since I felt that the more senior members had their own thing going on that I shouldn't interrupt. one of my first experience trying to RP I remember going to each forum and seeing "DO NOT ENTER WITHOUT MY PERMISSION" and stuff like that. So naturally I didn't want to play and I was intimidated by the members. Of course later I did meet people who would play with me but I had to try really hard.
So in conclusion I think if the new members try they can get around the whole history idea, but everyone has to be willing to either start a new string of the plot to include them or just find a way to include them in the current plot.
2) KILLING OFF CHARACTERS/ PRE-MADE CHARACTERS I like my character..... and I think a lot of people want to keep their character. The idea of pre-made characters work for some people but not for all. Profiles are always a good idea. Since the new members have to fill out something like Name and background info we should use this to help us integrate them.
3) NEW MEMBER RECRUITING/ BUSY I simply think we don't have enough members. Whenever I'm on no one else is, which is probably due to the time difference. I used to play a lot because I was a little kid with nothing else to do so I could stay up until 4am to play with everyone. But now that I'm older and I'm in university I no longer have the luxury of doing this. I think that's the case with a lot of our members, they're now really busy with whatever it may be. It's not really something we can fix, but by bringing in new members we can insure that the guild will be a little busier.
4) HELL/ NEW EVENT I don't know what Hell is, however I do think that the idea of having an event to change history is a good idea. I don't like wars much, so I probably wouldn't participate with that but for those who do like it it might be a good idea. Otherwise I just think a branch off in history is good. Something new that everyone can join. Or to unite RDS we could have something opposing RDS? I'm not sure, I'm not really good at this stuff.... but just something.
5) RE-VAMPING/ORGANIZING Re-vamping and reorganizing is good. There are so many small forums that you can go into that it's kind of silly. We're spreading the few members we have out. It's like trying to spread peanut butter onto a slice of bread that's much too big. As a result we get people everywhere but not enough to carry on something meaningful so they stop and drop off. I think it would be good to go through and clean out un-used places. People can keep their homes and what not but we should use them like that. If you're not home post "I'm not home, look for me in_______" So it's really like a home. ALSO it would be good to have a little background for each place, so updating the story line for that particular place is a good idea so people can jump in and know what's going on.
6) TIME SKIP As Yawg said, we don't really need a time skip (or so I feel). However I will say again it is a little difficult to ingrain yourself into the story. I found it hard to understand the relationships/events and asking questions made me feel stupid as some people just didn't want to take the time to tell me the huge history of RDS. I think a history changing event will be sufficient, this will allow the new members to join in since it would be new and they wouldn't need to know the past to play. A time skip would throw off those who already have been here for a while.
7) POSSIBLE EVENTS You could have the burning down of the bar or something. Or maybe an opening of a portal of some sort that brings all sorts of dangers into the area. This would be good for those who fight, and for those who don't they could find aid and create party like groups. There could be a kind of quest to find how to close the portal with regular updates and clues. Or something I don't know I'm just throwing ideas out there. A new type of world or weird environment is always fun. I big bad guy who everyone knows is good.
8 ) STATE OF THINGS ON GAIA Last one I promise.
So I used to RP a lot in this place called the Refuge. It got closed eventually which made me very sad but anyhow, I found that it worked well because there was always a few people feuding and making trouble for others. There were a lot of little stories and relationships.
However, even with all the same members when we tried to open a new forum and restart it didn't work and I haven't been able to find another place like that. People just weren't interested in RPing. I think it's become a secondary activity on Gaia now. With all the games and what not people just don't RP anymore. And when they do it's pretty silly illiterate play. I think we have to understand that RPing is just not as popular as it was before. It used to be really fast paced, you'd have to scroll back a page to find your post and the person's reply. But now it's slowed down, you have to wait days for replies. And that's just how it is. I'm not saying that for sure our guild will die, but we should try recruiting in places we know have people interested in RPing. Or something, again just throwing out ideas.
Sorry it's so long....... I tried to respond to most of the topics that were being talked about.
^^ I really like the RDS and I hope that it will continue to thrive, so I'll try my best to help.
with love, Kiwi
