"Evade girafarig," Ren shouted and her rental pokemon responded accordingly. She breathed a sigh of relief. The Altaria was getting weaker. Perhaps she could finish this before they even sighted the finish line.
"Use crunch!"

"Come on!" She muttered to herself as Era's wing was clamped down by the sharp teeth. She managed to shake free of the grip, but not without sustaining damage.
"We're sticking to the plan though! Another Dragonbreath!"
Piney really didn't know why she was sorta talking to herself all the sudden. Maybe it was the freezing temperature.
Shaking some torn feathers loose, Era circled above the Girafarig and fired another rainbow beam with a loud caw.

"Oh no," Ren cried as the girafarig went frigid as the attack glanced off her shoulder. The sled, still moving forward in momentum, bumped into back of her rental pokemon's frozen legs.
"Come on," she urged, but to no avail. She was paralzed. Guess she had to wait. Damn, Ren thought in anxiety.

Piney smiled at the thought that they were finally making some progress. But it wasn't the time for rejoicing yet. Already the Girafarig was shaking off the paralysis and it would be ready to move or attack by the next turn.
"Well we'll have to keep them down! Dragonbreath!"
She felt kinda bad for doing this, but she didn't see any other way to win this race.
After pulling the sled some length forward, she swooped down and unleased some more of the attack. She was getting tired but things were looking up for them, and that gave her the energy to keep doing this.

Without commanding it, her girafarig leaped to the side upon shaking of her paralysis and narrowly evading the attack. The sled flew through the air, landing with a bone jarring smack.
"Good girl. Now let's get back on track! Use psybeam girafarig!"
"Gira," she roared before unleashing the attack.

The psybeam, focused on confusing than damage, was deflected by the Safeguard and Era was able to continue pulling forward without harm. But it was soon to wear off and Piney needed to replenish it again or she might get confused like last time. And she knew how much fun that was...
"Use a Safeguard!"
Era strained herself to go faster while fluffing herself up again. In an instant, the dying silvery specks were restored to their former shinyness and floated around her with renewed strength.

"Crap. Forgot about that," Ren muttered to herself. How foolish. A little mistake like that could cost her the whole race.

Era chirped as the hoof knocked her silly but managed to stay aloft. Piney knew that she couldn't keep this up much longer, but they still could get lucky and win by crossing the finish line.
"Dragonbreath!" She wondered if all these paralysis attempts would be the end of her or their key to success.
The Altaria let out a loud shriek before breathing that rainbow spew over her opponents again. She was getting annoyed like her trainer, and what better way to express that then trying to hinder their progress?

"Dodge and use crunch girafarig," Ren commanded. The girafarig responded and leaped into the air to latch onto the opponent's Altaria.

This is getting tiresome. Piney wasn't sure on how exactly all those dragonbreathes kept on missing, but it did. It was probably because of the weather. It was the most plausible explanation, even if she didn't like it.
"Try to make it stick this time!" She called out.
Era rolled around the air, managing to pry her opponent off. Settling her feathers back in place, she breated another Dragonbreath on it, with all her might.

One of the dragonbreaths finally managed a hit and as before, her girafarig went stone cold still. "Arrg! Not again." Waiting time again...

Ok! Now was their chance to get ahead! Since Piney decided that they had no hope of winning through knocking them out, she'd have to try and get to finish line. Even in this blizzard. And to do that, they'll need some help.
"Dragon Dance!"
Era was pleased that they were doing something different now, and let out a cheerful chirp. She glowed slightly as orbs of lightning surrounded her, giving strength to her muscles and renewing her stamina she needed to drive forward.

And unfortunetly, the sled only jerked foward slightly. It was better than nothing anyway, since they weren't stuck in the snow half the time.
She can't afford to get confused again though. So Piney ordered Era to set up another Safeguard, which she did obediently. This was getting to be a really long race...
