I think D does bathe, but if Hideyuki writes out everytime he does, the books wouldn't have as much focus on the main storyline--most authors have a page limit...though it would be amusing to read how he does, lol

If the authors wrote about it everytime then we would all be too busy imagining it to read properly =P

You know a thought came to me just now. Vampire's attract humans like moths to a flame because they are dinner for them right? So therefore everything about them must be appealing to their prey. So you would think that vampire's smell good to at least humans. Mabey not their own kind but that would keep them from bathing perhaps. Then there is the fact that the vampires in the books are sensitive to water as well as the Dhampirs but do you think a small amount would not effet them? I need to think more.....

Actually D does sleep, He's done it in quite a few novels in fact one of them was biased completely on his dreams.

A very good question. If you go by what is often mentioned in the novels and the Playstation video game, D is not able to linger in water for too long because it will begin to destroy him, being that he is related to the undead. Vampires are normally not able to survive in water. This is especially so in flowing water which vampires cannot cross normally. It can also lower his blood temper to a point that he will literally begin to freeze up solid. He already has issues with his blood temperature being lower then a normal mans. D mentions that you will normally never see Vampires attacking anyone on a rainy night. It's for this reason. But then we have been surprised by D's ability to stand in water as well as easily fight in it.

In one of the novels D was cut deeply about the neck, a serious wound that should have killed any man; but for D it would heal in about a day. However the stink of the blood that he was drenched with was notable to a certain person around him. D assured this person that he would soon do something about the smell. And shortly after in the story we find that his curious carbuncle (left hand) began emitting a flowery scent to freshen up D's putrid smell as he was healing. If D actually does clean up, we haven't been shown this in any of the novels or movies yet. But he does have enough Dalas to afford artificial cleansers that could have been manufactured for the use of noblility, dunpeals and mutants from the Capital. After all he must buy blood pills, supplies for his travels and new DL4 cyborgs horses when needed, right?

We do see him change his outfit from novel to novel so he's getting dolled up at sometime. We're never shown those little tidbits. If the girls are all so in love with him, he must pride himself in being clean and smelling good at all times. After all he does think of himself as a princely, sophisticated guy. wink

Her name is Su-In, but it was also Dwight who mentioned smelling the flowery scent.

(Rf. Vol. 8 Vampire Hunter D - Mysterious Journey to the North Sea Part Two Chapt. 2 pg. 40-51 )
Yeah D, used some gauze to hold over the wound, but the chapter didn't say whether he used any cleansers for his body. His outfit was so black that you couldn't see the blood, which had drenched his whole left side. The only blood you could see was staining his pale skin near the wound. But he wiped this off with the gauze. It could have also been his left hand who not only aids in healing, and sucking up D's blood but also cleaning wounds. But to get rid of the blood smell his left hand was making D smell like flowers. ^.^ Now thats adorable. But in D's words:

D replied morosely, 'I used too much tincture on the bloodstains.' (pg. 46)

Note: If D's being honest with his excuse, then he does in fact use elixirs.

Does anyone know if there is acctually a reason to why vampires in some books cannot do well in water? I have heard it a few times in a few different vampire books and movies but I don't recall there ever being an actual reason to why. So if someone knows it will be nice to know and it will help me with a book that I am writing so please help if you can. Personal theorys are also appreciated if no knows exactly.

I have a feeling that all water is considered "blessed" from a religious/spiritualist point of view. Water is the element that gives life. It doesn't necessarily need to be blessed by a Priest or Holy Man to give it the properties of Holy Water. It's not just Vampires that tend to avoid crossing water, but legend says also Witches. But if you read up on Celtic Fairy Legends, it is said that there are in fact fairies, spirits or deities that live around water. And these creatures are also said to be incredibly dangerous. Even to the point of scaring away other "evil" spirits. Some of these water deities are also said to be vampiric. So not all vampires avoid water. If it's not because of the water being blessed by a Godlike Personage, then it could be the powerful spirits that live in water that scare away/threaten evil demonic creatures as they dare to approach. However, water doesn't work on all evil.

D sleeps, in the novels you can find him often times looking for a good spot to take a nap. The biggest reference would be: (Rf. Vol. 7 "The Stuff of Dreams") But here is an excerpt from Vol. 6; "Pilgrimage of the Sacred and the Profane" pg. 17-18:

{ It was at that moment that a wrinkled hand knocked on the door to a room in a hotel on the edge of town. There was no answer. Without waiting very long, the hand pushed against the door. It opened easily. The interior was claimed by the same shade of darkness as the world outside. The reason Granny Viper turned to the right side without hesitation wasn't because she'd memorized the location of the bed, but because she could see as well in the dark as she could at midday.
"Pardon the intrusion," the old woman called out in a hoarse voice, and although she received no reply to her greeting, she could see the tall figure that lay on the bed clearly enough. "Ordinarily, I'd call you careless, but for the Vampire Hunter D, having the door locked or unlocked probably make s no difference. Anyone who came in here with evil in mind wouldn't live to tell about it." Her tone was buoyant, and she meant her words as a compliment. As always there was no reply...ect }
