" I don't like cold bath water" Rook admitted. " Wouldn't like a cold beach then."
Rook found himself staring at the other boy again, ruby red eyes trying to figure out the purpose of the boy's horns " What are they for?" he asked pointing. If the spines and webbing on his own head had a purpose so must Chris' horns.

"Handlebars," Chris said promptly. He didn't even hesitate, which said something about how often he wound up being ridden like a horse. "People grab onto them when they're riding on my back."

" People ride you? " Rook stared incredulously at the other boy. Certainly he was much bigger than the others and could maybe even lift them but still he was a person, you didn't ride people. Having never seen so much as a piggyback before the concept was very very strange to Rook.

"Sure," Chris said cheerfully. "I don't notice a little bit more weight one bit. You get carried around by people sometimes, don't you?"

Rook nodded,it was true his mother did pick him and carry him. Not on her back though, the boy sucked on his lower lip thinking before figuring that if Chris didn't mind it probably wasn't a bad thing. " Can you run fast?" Most things people rode moved faster than the people themselves.

"Not as fast as a friend of mine, but faster than people that go on two legs," he said. "Do you run fast?"

Rook shook his head and frowned. " I don't even walk well" Looking down at his feet Rook wiggled the two toes on each. The boy was thrilled to be able to walk now at all without falling over but he just wasn't good at it yet and moving with any sort of speed was impossible.
" Were you always fast?" Maybe Rook would get better when he was bigger like Chris?

"Nope," Chris said. "But I have an advantage over you. I'm moving on all fours," he told the boy. "And the tail helps with balance. Have you tried using it for that?"

That was weird Rook didn't move nearly as fast when he crawled as when he walked. then again Chris didn't seem to be crawling either so much was walking and using his hands. Rook's arms weren't nearly long enough to do that.
" It kind of helps" Rook said nodding. He found that if he leaned too much one way his tail seem to swing the other way to prevent a fall. Normally though it just seemed to swing behind him so if it was helping then he didn't know.
" Still, maybe I can be fast someday?" Rook was hopeful, after all he was on land more than he was in water so he needed to be able to move well both places.

"Maybe," Chris agreed. He jerked as he heard the bell ring in the distance. "I gotta go back to my classes now, Rook," he told him. "But I'll come see you again, okay?"

Rook smiled and nodded " Ok Bye Chris." Next time, he thought he just might ask the older boy for a ride, just to see what it was like.
