Meditation is great, and Yoga really helps you with it if you. You all should try it out. It teaches you breathing, essential to the process, balance, and teaches you to concentrate on one thing. It’s great, not to mention you get more flexible.

It is a major obstacle for the legalization movement. If particular hippies want to stand up for the cause and be recognized, they ought to put the pipe down for a little bit... unless they are the type of people that find their public-speaking abilities enhanced by drugs. For many people, drugs are a way of life and a source of far-reaching inspiration. To decide whether this is a positive or a negative way of living depends entirely on the individual. Ideally, some hippies would be clearheaded while others journey deep within. There is as much merit in rational, structured thought as there is in random, dreamlike thought. The nagual and tonal of Castaneda, if you will. wink -clap clap clap- I tip my hat off to you, you speak wisdom. yes she does, just goes to show the quality of people in this guild I agree with you, and am glad you see both sides; Like Tavon, I get off on my own highs, and they have quite an effect, so that I do slip into the random dreamlike thought, and blissfull stupor ocasionaly without them. *peace* You know, their's this website called www.hemi-sync.com that sells cds that use binaural beat technology. It activates the hemispheres in your brain and states of the mind or something. They claim it's a digital drug. I checked it out, I think if it works I could really use it. Durring moments of concentration, or bliss, I pay attention to the effect, and feeling my brain has, then later, I can recal them, and if I reproduce the same mental state, I can concentrate, or improve my mood. I've already learned to do it with concentrating, now I'd love to improve it, and binaural beats sounds like something that can help me a lot. coolness. Yaey!

The way I see it, If you do drugs, and then people disregard anything you say because of that, what you're doing is placing on your own happiness before theirs. In the end we all can't do what we want.
I would just like to help as many people as I can, possibly at the expense of my own happiness.

Hey, what kind of drugs are we talking about? And are we promoting personal responsibility or not? I support Marijuana and actually to a certain extent LSD if all the controls are in place.
LSD can be used without doing much damage if there is a series of controls in place. First: A sober guide who stays with you, or two would be better. 2. Your nowhere near anything that can hurt you. 3. You have the pill that can bring you down from a bad trip. So when it comes down to it, it is fairly safe when it is controlled.
Marijuana: Follow the same rules as alcohol. Don't smoke and drive. I think its funny how alcohol companies do not promote responsibility as much as pro marijuana groups do.

I'm talking about drugs in general really, mainly marijuana because it's the typical hippie drug.
I don't have a problem with people doing drugs anyway as long as they’re responsible with it. It's just that I’ve seen that it makes it much harder to teach people things if they know you do drugs. Also I am concerned that after a while on a substance like drugs a person looses capacity in several mental areas, for example the ability to remember things accurately, and to present logical analogies.
After I started this thread, I found an example of exactly the kind of thing that I'd like hippies to avoid by not doing drugs. I was listening to a radio talk show with my dad and a guy called in to present his views on legalizing marijuana. His speech was slow and drawn out and the arguments consisted of strictly theoretical and unsupported statements.
The host of the Talk show just let him talk, and then after he hung up, the next three callers called about him and laughed with the host about how messed up he was. They poked holes in his theories and one caller even said "You should save that as a sound byte showing exactly why you shouldn't smoke pot"
This is the image or fate that I want hippies to avoid.

you make a good point. Some hippies arn't really trying to comvert people to thier cause, thier just all about freedom and equallity, getting back to nature, peace love and frogs.
others do go to protsts though and they try to change the world for the better.
those people don't need to do drugs.
am I right?

I don't do drugs, I don't think I'm ever likely to do drugs, but at least with some drugs (such as pot) I don't see a huge problem with doing them. If somebody asked my opinion I'd probably tell them they shouldn't, but really it's choice. And I don't think there should be any specific "hippies do drugs" or "hippies don't do drugs" thing, either. I mean, either way being a hippy shouldn't be about the drugs.

A lot of the hippies I know who are motivated enough to want to make a change really don't do drugs that often to the point where it would be obvious for any onlooker to pinpoint. The fact is... it's a longstanding notion that hippies=deadbeat drugusers to a lot of right wingers and nothing we do will ever change that opinion for them.
It's the open minds we are trying to reach and those are the ones who usually don't bag on what people do in their free time.
