"I sing," he said. "With the two voices, you know, it works." He pulled out a gigantic cookie, unwrapping it. "Want a bite?" he asked a bit reluctantly.

Kaimi grinned and jiggled her bag of jelly beans at him. "No, thanks. I've got these for dessert. I'd love to hear you sing sometime, it must be pretty cool with the two voices."

He shrugged. "It's alright, I guess. We got a band, so maybe you can listen in sometime." He finished off his cookie, then looked in the bag again. "Yeah, it's empty," he said with a sigh. "So I'm guessin' you're trying to find out about me for some reason."
And there it was, laid out on the table so bluntly. Typical Chris. But he went on before she could answer. "You want me to carry somethin? Or move somethin? Like a car? Or maybe you're movin' to a new house?"

She'd thought she was doing so well! Kaimi's breath caught when her started talking, and then released in a great relieved sigh when he continued. She grinned, and then giggled. "Oh, no... I'm not moving or anything. Like I said... Just trying to make new friends!" Conveniently, the lunch bell rang to punctuate the end of her sentence. "Oh! Hey! Lunch is over! It was good to meet you, Chris!" She figured she'd better beat a hasty retreat before he really did figure what she was all about.

"See ya, Chris!" Kaimi grinned as she made for the cafeteria door. That, she thought to herself, had gone better than expected.
