Personally, I'd discount almost anything but live productions as good musicals. A few that I've enjoyed include:
Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's 2005 Broadway revival of Bond's Sweeney Todd
Wicked (thank goodness it's dissimilar to the novel)
The Music Man can be decent depending on the specific production
Hairspray was amazing live. Nikki Blonsky was pretty good in the newer film but Amanda Bynes totally sucked as Penny. The Broadway production ends early in January; you should totally see it if you can.
Oklahoma
The Producers
Chicago 1996 Broadway revival
Urintown
Avenue Q
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee simply for its innovation
Spamalot
Pretty much anything derived from T.S. Elliot
On the whole though, I feel that musical theater is going downhill. It's becoming much less of a creative outlet and much more of a for-profit tourist attraction. I'll do operas and plays in separate post.

NewGenious uuuhhh...I don't know any musicals...unless Disney counts... Disney animated films certainly do qualify. Additionally, Disney has several live musical productions for Broadway and West End theaters including Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King (gets waaaay too much hype), Tarzan, Aida, Mary Poppins, etc.

No theater production for The Nightmare Before Christmas???
I'm still trying to learn "inside of these bones" word for word.

That's one of my favorite films. I doubt there will be any sort of high tier, live production for it. Burton has been very careful to ensure it's "purity." He's even prevented Disney from making sequels to the film based on other holidays.

Oh thank god for that. But then again...the goths wouldn't worship it so much if it had crappy sequels.......
