Ebby didn't really have to look at her feet at all. Just concentrating on the arrows - that seemed to be working better - and feeling the music. Not feeling it like in the creepy way of someone whose taken one too many happy pills but in a way like understanding what made it flow the way it did, a natural inclination to move. And in a dancing game, that was kind of helpful.
Soon enough, the kid was starting to get pretty good at it. Mareike's advice not to go in the middle again and paying attention to the arrows was a good idea. She was doing great, according to the screen. But Ebby didn't even notice the words long enough to read them, too intent on the next arrows.

The machine pumped out not only music but the sound of cheering from the crowd now and random positive commentator lines such as " You're not an ordinary fella " and " You're a super stepper."
Mareike resisted the urge to roll her eyes at that. Girls always seemed to get the fella line and boys she'd seen play yet the 'you go girl'. The game seemed gender recognition challenged permanently.

Ebony didn't even notice the gender mix-up. Her one brother was prone to calling people dude every now and again, even her and her mother. It also happened with the word guys a few times so she wasn't really worrying about that. But soon enough, the song was wrapping up and their scores were posted.

Mareike was somewhat amused at the outcome, Ebony had beaten her w with a slightly higher scores though both had gotten enough points to rank a B. Still, overall Mareike felt like a winner she had more perfect scores than the smaller girl. She'd missed some steps and lost combo points by focusing on her timing too much but it was paying off. Given more time and practise she'd have the speed and timing to play the harder modes and ace them. If she found time between training and Tennis lessons which had recently moved indoors.

"This is fun" the child informed her friend. "But I think I need a break. I'm getting a little tired. Can we stop for a bit?"

Mareike nodded and stepped down from her side of the machine. Her body required no breaks, she probably could have played for hours. Still not all of the facility children were made the same and Ebony probably had skills she didn't. Although Mareike found her own skills to be more than adequate for living the type of life she liked.

Ebony hopped off her side of the machine and looked up at the older girl. "Are there any other fun games you want to show me? This is my first time here."

Mareike was thoughtful for a moment. Ebony was too small for airhockey or Foosball, the girl would barely be able to see over the table. Looking around the girl spotted the VR games section to be empty at the moment. While the older girl knew it was something of a pain to adjust the headsets especially if you had horns she found the games well worth the trouble.
They were shooting games but Mareike had a feeling Ebony's guardian wouldn't care. Besides it was quite obviously all pretend even if the VR sets worked very hard to immerse you into the game with vivid sights and sounds. " The Virtual reality stuff is pretty cool. you have to move your body a bit but it's not as tiring as DDR"

"Okies." the child agreed. "Mommy was gonna take me over there to show me that after we'd raced but racing was fun and then you came over to show me DDR."

Mareike just laughed softly and lead the girl towards the VR station. " I think your moms is enjoying pretending to be a biker or something." Or maybe the woman just wanted to relax and have fun, it was possible. Either way she could always bring Ebony back here and play with her again when Mareike wasn't around. " You can pick the game and then we'll figure out hot to fit the headsets on us." Neither girl had particularly small horns which would make the process hard but not impossible.

"Mommy has a real bike. She just doesn't get to use it as much cause she hasn't found a raceway around here that lets the type she's got in."
Ebony looked around at the games for a few moments, before she spotted one that seemed to be about sniping. Ebony had no idea what sniper rifles were or even how they were used but the mechanisms looked like her Mommy's pistol and that was interesting to see. Luckily for the child's mind, the game involved sniping silly looking mutant ducks, instead of something gruesome.

Mareike wondered briefly about what sort of bike the woman had before setting her mind to the task of adjusting her headset so it covered her yes and ears properly but didn't get screwed up by her horns. Thankfully is wasn't so much a helmet as a bunch of interconected plastic pieces and straps that needed to be fiddles with to set right on about any head.
" This one looks like someone recreated Nintendo's duckhunt on acid" She noted with amusement.
The girl looked over at Ebby to size the girl up "Need help?"

Ebony shook her head and carefully adjusted the straps for herself. Soon, both were getting into the game and ready to play. Mareike's idea of what the game was was actually pretty damn accurate. Ebony didn't have a clue what acid was and had never played duck-hunt so she didn't realize that. But the creators definitely had been playing duck-hunt on acid and decided to make it more fun even while sober.

There was really nothing remotely scary about the game. even when you shot a mutant duck it simply made a weird funny quack and fell in an over dramatic way to the ground. Mareike found it a bit weird that you were sort of encouraged to walk around or over the fallen bodies but then again they weren't exactly terrifying corpses and you were mostly busy on the lookout for more ambush ducks.
the game was in two layer mode so Mareike could see what the game had designated as Ebony's avatar not far away. " You cover left and I'll cover right?" she asked speaking into the tiny microphone built into the headset. bet ween the two of them they shouldn't have two hard of a time making their way through the level.

"O-okay..." the child said quietly. She wasn't quite scared of the game, just nervous since she was bad at it. Aim wasn't her specialty and she was awkward with the gun. The child generally managed to hit her targets (it was a really easy game since it was for kids) but she did have to try a few times to do it right.
