onicoe learning to love the salads. (I've never liked salads) It's my birthday so I'm making waffles then hitting the gym. I figure this is a much better strategy than hitting the gym then having cake or something. It's a little shocking but the more I work on elimination sugar (as in candy/cakes/junk food) the more I seem to be craving it. Seriously sugar is an addiction, which I've already read stuff on that subject it's just different when you experience it. That is soooo true, ive been trying to eliminate the sweets in my daily diet too. But last night my s/o and I went to the movies and i bought chocolate covered raisins, THEY LOOKED SO GOOD =O

So i drank A LOT of cranberry juice and lemon water. Thats ALL i drank. I also took 2 garlic supplements a day. Lost 2 pounds biggrin Pretty pleased about that. Awh thanks! I don't know if you're trying to lose weight or not but if you want to share one I can stick it in the same post.

ooog, i am also trying to lose weight. XD it's so hard around the holidays, but since we're having christmas at my house this year, mom is letting me make a bunch of healthy vegetable-heavy dishes!
my diet-related New Years' Resolutions are these: -eat more vegetables && fruits -eat less carb-heavy foods -always go for whole-grain if the option is available -less dairy, especially cheese -eat more organic foods
i'm also planning on upping my exercise too. i've started doing 100 situps a night, && i can already see(&& feel!)a bit of a difference.
good luck! keep us posted on your progress. 3nodding

I'm not trying to lose weight, it'd be unhealthy if I did, but I do want to tighten up my body.
I've started by drinking more water, eating more grains and doing curl ups and push ups four days a week.
I'll probably further my workout once I get over this terrible ear infection and cold.
Good luck to everyone here though. : D Hopefully we'll all reach our goals this year.

I've fallen off a lot of bandwagons recently so I need to re-dedicate myself to health.
Today I'm cleaning the cupboards and going shopping for some basic staples. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
I also need to start some weight training. I use the treadmill as fast as I can but increasing the variety of exercise would be good.

I have serious trouble staying on track. I'll do fine for a few days but then "real life" gets overwhelming and the first thing to go is diet and exercise, by way of excuses like "stress eating" and "i don't have time to drive to the gym".
Can anyone offer ideas and tips to stay focused? These excuses are just self sabotage and are frustrating me.

onicoe I have serious trouble staying on track. In re staying focused on exercise: I've found it reeaallly helps to have exercises you can do at home without making a big production about it. The fewer steps from "I should exercise" to actually exercising, the better. Also, having the option of a really short exercise helps you trick yourself into doing it. "Oh, I'll just jump on the stationary bike for 5 minutes," I'll say to myself. 15 minutes later, I'm still on there because it's not actually so bad, but I'd have hated to commit myself to that. I need to start doing weights though, the yoga's helping but sooooooo slowly.... Luckily I can do those at home too smile Oh yeah, and as far as yoga goes, I do that every morning without fail (usually first thing out of bed, though sometimes I take a moment to run to the computer to write whatever improved computer algorithms I figured out in my sleep). If I am short on time, I do one sun salute and rest for a minute in child's pose and that's it, but I'm still doing yoga, and thus not breaking the habit. I have no excuse to avoid a 3 minute activity, and once I'm doing it I might as well do a full 20 minutes or more unless I actually don't have the time. (no clue about the eating thing, I have trouble remembering to eat enough calories as it is sweatdrop )

exactly. I have no problem spending an hour on the treadmill. I actually enjoy it, it's the getting there part that's the worst. Often the more I think about going the less I end up going.
I've been experimenting with yoga but haven't settled into a routine I like yet.
thanks for the insight!

Experimented today with eating every 2 hours. (little snacks in between the main meals). It definitely helped any spastic cravings. we'll see how this keeps up. supposedly having lots of little meals instead of 3 big ones is also supposed to help with metabolism.

Can I hang out on this thread even though my goal is "stop being such a freaking weakling" rather than weightloss? wink
Lately I've been working more strength-difficult (for me) poses into my hatha yoga routine. I fiiiiiiinaly am able to go from plank pose to chaturunga, hold it for a few breaths, and then move into upward-facing dog without falling over. I feel very accomplished. xd
My dad bought me some resistance bands so I can do some resistance training (i.e. weight training, without the weights.... they're like giant rubberbands!) Did a major upper-body workout with them today. My arms will probably be killing me tomorrow gonk

Of course you can!
I've been amping up the green smoothies (a little bit of fruit, some water, big handfuls of greens). It has me feeling great.

Today I finally found a team for Shapeup RI, which is a statewide health & fitness challenge for RI. (we're cool like that) For $20 you get a snazzy wristband, pedometer, a logbook and access to a team tracking section of the shapeup ri website.
(known about this for a few years but didn't have the courage to do it)

Pedometers are cool. xd
I've been doing the upper body workout thing every other day for the past few days. Yesterday I did a whole lot of crunches (like, three sets of twenty, one of those sets being oblique...) and now my abs are killing me gonk But I'll get over it 3nodding I need to find something stable to attach the resistance bands to for some exercises though. The ones that say 'attach it to a doorknob" don't work when most of our doors don't quite close properly stressed Also working on how long I can hold plank pose.
