Azarax rather liked that answer. It was vague, that was true, and it didn't exactly demonstrate Iroh's ability to make decisions, but the cub was still a cub, after all. If Azarax himself had been asked the very same question at Iroh's age, he was certain he would not have been able to come up wit hanything more definite. If anything, his rather pessimisstic nature as a cub would likely have caused him to invoke the title of "slave" and then simply walk away.

No, what it did was show him all the more clearly how devoted the little white cub was to their pride. That Iroh could consider putting the pride's needs before his own desires, whether or not he was aware that he had done it, was a good sign. A very good sign. If the little cub's generation was to be the future of the pride, then it boded well that, already, Azarax had found one of their number who was prepared to do anything to protect it.

"That's a good thing," He told the cub with a small nod. "Means you're selfless. You can always use a selfless lion in a pride."

Azarax chuckled - perhaps cubs were not so scary after all - and shrugged. "I like knowing that what I'm doing is ensuring the protection of all of us." He said. "But thank you, Iroh, that actually does mean a lot."

Iroh purred unevenly and smiled. Selfless? He wasn't sure he knew what that meant, entirely, but he was honored to be considered it. He knew it meant giving, and that was what he wanted to be. Others were just as important as he was, and if he could serve them, he would do it. Ultimately he wanted to keep his friends, family, and pride not only content and safe, but happy.

There was difference between contented and made happy, and he was already beginning to see it. Everyone, he thought, deserved some happiness. Even small things. If he could help with that, he would live his own very happy life.

Though, these ideas were not as concrete in his head as he would have liked, so putting them to words was nearly impossible. So he purred, a strange, often interrupted song that rumbled in his throat easily enough. He nodded back as the older lion chuckled, beaming.

"I'm glad! I hope we can talk again soon. I should probably head back to my home, though, before I'm gone too long again. I have this habit of staying out too late, but I don't think they would mind if they knew I was talking to you. Anyway, thank you for your words. I hope we can meet again soon! If you're not too busy."

He smiled and stood, still purring, and then rubbed his little, chubby head against Azarax's leg. It was a short, unimposing gesture of friendship, and he smiled up at him for a moment before turning to head back to his den.

Oh, he was a charming little fellow, for sure. Perhaps it had done Azarax a world of good to meet one of the cubs and have a conversation. At least now, they seemed less... little and easily crushable. It was easier to associate with them what he would with older lions than he had expected. Granted, it was undoubtedly just his inexperience with the little beings that caused his nervousness around them, and he knew that once he became more familiar with being around cubs, he would get used to them. Still.

He nodded. "I wouldn't want your parents angry at me for keeping you out too long, huh," He said with a smile. "But come find me any time if you want to know more. I'll do my best to teach you."

The little head rub caught him off guard, and Azarax paused, gazing in surprise at the white cub, even as Iroh smiled and then turned and tottered back toward his family's den. He sat where he was for a while, watching Iroh go in something near amazement. He was so... friendly. It had never been like that for Azarax, growing up. Admittedly, it could have been the way in which he had grown up... surrounded by timid slave children and haughty Firekin cubs. Still, it surprised him to no end, and even after he realized he had regained his motor functions and had risen to his feet, and stopped to watch as a small wind blew the sand over Iroh's little pawprints.

Hm.

He turned with a small smile. Perhaps he, too, would be heading home.
