Sweet Snow has been the topic of rants by me to STRANGERS, I hate it so much. I didn't even like it the first time I READ it in a fanfic. I thought "Hiei's not a ********. o.O"

Demons have ice cream, I'm sure. Hiei's not naive - childish - innocent - or uberbitchy.

I remember watching an episode recently, and him telling someone that percentages were for poker. I thought "He's played poker, but he doesn't know what the ******** ice cream is. I see. *nod*"

I hate, HATE, when people write Hiei half the time. It's not even about him being difficult - it's that they obviously don't love him as goddamn much as they think, because they don't understand his personality at ALL.

He's not QUIET. Hiei doesn't talk much less than Kurama, as far as I can tell. He's sarcastic, dry, and a irritable, even. Not once has he been cruel to Kuwabara. His cracks at him are just that; not what some fans seem to interpret it as through their hate for Kuwabara.

I admit - I haven't gotten around to the manga (though I do know the important differences) and I personally don't enjoy watching it in Japanese. I'm madly in love with Justin Cook. Sue me. So I don't KNOW just HOW different the dialouge is - but as far as I can tell by Hiei's facial expressions, and the others around them - he's not BASHING Kuwabara.

People make him out to be some naive t**t with an ice cream obsession and a Kuwabara-flaming Neopet Guild.

He can be harsh, but the impression I got was that Hiei felt about Kuwabara like he did the rest - that being WHY he poked fun at him. He's kinda serious, and not particularly playful - but he's just pressing buttons. If he honestly hated Kuwabara - well, we'd see a very different attitude toward him, I'm sure. And Kuwabara's obviously not dumb enough to mistake CRUEL HATRED for sarcasm and being the butt of Hiei's snippy jokes.

They fight like family, really. If it makes Kurama laugh, then it's OBVIOUSLY not something horrible.

And as for Kuwabara bashing - does KURAMA bash him? Because omfg, WHAT THE HELL. That is wrong. So wrong on so many levels. You can tell Kurama doesn't think he's the BRIGHTEST, cause he ISN'T, but Kurama hardly pokes fun at Yusuke.

When it comes to the four of them (who are friends. Goddamn FRIENDS, I TELL YOU - sorry. xD I'm shouting now.) Kuwabara is the butt of Hiei's jokes, Hiei is the butt of most of Kurama and Yusuke's jokes - Yusuke mocks Kuwabara as much as Kuwabara mocks him - People generally don't poke fun at Kurama. xD He's too goshdarn adorkable. Why would they? xD


So, that is a peeve ^ xD Failing Hiei and Kuwabara, who quite honestly have a odd friendship - though still one all the same. They wouldn't hang OUT, but they're a team, and they respect each other, though they're personalities and ideals clash, therefore they don't always show it. >.>

Now to talk OOC.

Logically, you can't be completely IC in a fanfiction. But there are boundaries - things you KNOW about them, to decipher to appropriately judge what they would do in a situation they've never been in.

Kurama for instance has shown signs of being a little bit lighthearted and silly when out doing something like going to the movies or the park for whatever reason. He's shown that he can be like biggrin and THEN, only after something explodes or something, his composure will change - and he may then start to fake =] to not startle anyone. You take that, something you've seen slightly, and build.

Not make s**t up. XD

Yoko and Kurama talking just plain pisses me off. Since they AREN'T TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE. D: He's simply changed thanks to his human form - but he IS the human. Yoko is Kurama is a human. Yoko does not exist any longer - unless Kurama can return to his demon form. It's a different personality - but not within the same body. It's not a split, it was a simple change. Kurama is just not the Kurama he once was.

OOC is only bad when someone back Kuwabara ...let's say, rape a girl.

It's OOC simply because we know for a FACT that is NOT who he is!

Keep in mind his good-nature, dim yet friendly brawl-loving honor code having self - it's hard to go OOC.

My pet peeve is basically when people just don't know what the ******** they're writing.

You learn enough about most of them to play a character wisely. All you need is some logic to decide what's in them and what's not.

Yoko Kurama never came off as a perv to me. >.>I know we only met him briefly...but. o.O

I rambled. XDD I made no sense, I'm sorry.

Well, Kuwabara's been shown (in the Japanese, several times) to be somewhat of a perv on occasion. He made a crack about taking advantage of Miyuki when s/he was unconscious after the fight with Yuusuke, and several times he's seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the prospect of dirty movies. Granted, I suppose I'm not sure what constitutes "perv" in this context, but while he's quite respectful towards the women he knows personally, he's also a teenage boy.

As for Kurama and Youko talking . . . as far as I know, there's still debate about that. I happen to share Teekaymon's opinion on the subject, but even so, I've run internal arguments that sound vaguely like Kurama/Youko arguments. Mostly I just try to work it as two separate trains of logic and instinct fighting each other, rather than two personalities; though it can sound like two personalities because he's got two very different sets of priorities at almost constant odds, and when things get hectic I'm sure there's overt conflict. It CAN get tiresome to see those weird, out-of-the-blue Kurama/Youko chit-chat sessions in fanfic, but I've also seen the dual/split thing done well and with justification. Some of it's blurred because the dub didn't explain things the same as the sub on the topic of Kurama and Youko; hence why there's still debate.

OKAY. My own pet peeves:

Hiei singing. Just. No.

Hiei crying under any but the most ******** circumstances. Hell, I had to use temporary insanity to get him to cry in one of my fanfics, and even then, I eventually axed that scene entirely because it still made me cringe, even WITH the insanity backing it.

Kurama as a weepy, wibbly little bundle of angst. He's about the most complicated character in the show, and I can guarantee that as much angst as might be there -- and there's plenty, don't get me wrong -- it's not even close to the majority of his personality.

Hiei as a weepy, wibbly little bundle of angst. There's even less excuse here -- sure he's got the most angsty backstory of any other character, but his personality is anything but self-indulgent and self-pitying. For frack's sake.

Yuusuke telling Keiko she's a horrid b***h. I don't know if I can really even talk about this one without descending into RAGE at the severe OOC.

Hiei killing Kuwabara in anything other than a freak accident. Not gonna happen, re: does not hate him, also knows Yukina likes him. Hurting Yukina = categorical anathema.

Yuusuke betraying or intentionally letting down any of his friends or loved ones. I just -- loyalty and self-sacrifice are two of his MAJOR DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS. GAH.
