Belle's expression grew more and more sour with every difficult step (why were her feet behaving so strangely?) she took towards the gaping mouth of the cave. It looked terribly black in there. Even if there weren't any monsters, there was definitely going to be very little light. She sniffled a little inwardly, not at all looking forward to wandering around in the dark. As a flower child, it was in her nature to prefer the open and the sunlight. Sure, this place and all of the dead trees horrified her, but she dearly wished for a flashlight.
This was not exciting. This was not fun.
"I want my mom," Belle whined unhelpfully, and as they reached the threshold of the great cavern, she glued herself to Owen's side. He may have been a rabbit boy, but he was bigger than both she and the polar bear child. Bigger felt safer.

The fireflies continue into the cave, illuminating the path for the children as they go deeper into the earth. Finally, the echoes change as the cave widens into a wide chamber.
Before them sits a massive bat, the size of a large man. Or is it a large man who happens to resemble a bat? He smiles at the children, pointed teeth glinting in the yellow light.
"How good it is to have visitors," he intones. "I know what it is you seek. Deep within this cave system lies an underground lake. Bathing in its waters will allow you to return to the world that you came from. I will give you candles to light the way."
There is a flurry of sound above the children, and a bundle of four candles drops before them, along with a book of matches.
"Each candle will burn an hour," explains the bat-man. "You have four hours to reach the lake and return home. Should you fail, you will remain in my kingdom as my servants for all eternity. Light the first candle when the firefly path ends."
He motions with a great winglike arm. The fireflies extend down a tunnel further into the darkness.
"Get going."

Riddik stared forward in awe. What was this man made out of? He looked like some kind of bat. Was this his home... him domain? All Riddik could focus on, was the mission at hand. They only had four hours to get out of this cave and time was disapearing.
What was this... some kind of game? No one asked to be here. Especially Riddik didn't ask to be here.
Riddik nudged at one of the candles that landed close to him.
"Owen, i can't carry any of these" Riddik whispered. He didn't want the scary bat man to hear him.

Owen shuddered at the sight of the strange bat creature person, his fangs did not look pleasant and Owen didn't doubt he wasn't above biting them. he seemed utterly unconcerned with the makeshift club the rabbit boy held so he was probably not afriad of him or being out numbered, not in this place.
At Riddik's comment the coal eyed Eden reached down and retrieved the bundle of candles in his free hand.Between him and bell they hand the only real workable fingers in the group, even if his were covered in fur.
He looked at Belle and motioned towards the matchbook. She'd need to carry that.

Belle's feet might not have been able to root into the cold stone of the cavern floor, but they didn't really need to. The little girl was so horrified by the creature in front of them that she couldn't move a muscle. Her eyes were as big as saucers and her mouth hung open as he spoke to them. Belle was torn between running for her life and screaming at the top of her lungs. This dilemma resolved it's self in the shape of a muted little squeak that slipped, stunned-like, from between her lips.
She'd just known there'd be a monster in here!
When the bundle of candles and the matchbook dropped to the floor in front of them, Belle came back to her senses and jumped behind Owen; effectively hiding her short form behind his bigger one. When the older boy gestured at the matchbook, the flower child simply gawked at him.
He couldn't honestly expect her to carry that, could he? They didn't even know if he was telling the truth! The little girl was about to protest but one look up at the eerie bat man thoroughly silenced her. Cowed by fear, despite her uncertainty, Belle nodded obediently and picked up the matches.
It was better to do as the monster said. Who knew what might happen if they pissed him off?

Riddik waited in silence behind Owen and some where near Belle. It made even more sense having Owen lead the group, since he was the only one that could handle the candle and wasn't scared like the other two. Riddik's fear slowly melted away. They had to focus at the task at hand... getting through this maze.
"Owen goes first." Riddik nodded.

Owen nodded slowly and resisted the urge to whimper as they trekked further into the cave following the fireflies. He didn't really want to go first, or be in charge, All the rabbit Eden wanted was to go home and unfortunately home meant through the cave, however, he couldn't just leave the other two behind either especially since it was partially his fault Riddik had fallen into this place. Being the oldest and bigger, and admittedly because he'd been the one to drag them into the cave this left him responsible whether he liked it or not.
" Stay close" he warned, not needing to really say ' we don't know what else is in here'. Hopefully though, even with the way things echoed he'd hear trouble coming long before he saw it.
