Thibiti had to stop himself from replying "yeah I do", reminding himself that she was his grandmother and he shouldn't be a smart mouth to her. She could smack him and that would mess up his mane (which was definitely Not Cool). Instead, he tried to put a little bit more effort into his smile. "Thanks. Same to you." It was his routine for whenever they met up, and who was he to mess around with it? Besides, Mwokoti would go back to talking to Nishan any minute now and he could just…

He paused ear scratch when she looked back at him. Had he said something weird? No, he said the same thing he usually said to her. Did she want something from him? Bitty blinked several times, his jaw seconds from dropping as she spoke to him again. "A task? Um, yeah sure I guess." He cleared his throat and put down his scratching paw. "What do you want me to do with him?"

"What?!" Do with him?! What the Hell kind of response was that?! "Bitty!"

"Nishan." That was all it took. The name spoken firmly from the mouth of their goddess of a grandmother but one time and he was silent. In terms of Gods Mwokoti was not the strongest, but she could be damn intimidating when she felt something needed to get done. It wasn't power that had her manipulating a firekin elsewhere. "You're both older now. This is the age your father met your mother."

Nishan really didn't like where this was going.

"I'm concerned for you, being stuck in this pride," Mwokoti continued. "I'm giving you permission to go," is what she told them, but her tone of voice said otherwise. In short, 'I'm demanding you go.' She didn't wait to hear any complaints or protests. "You'll take your sibling and find him a respectable mate. If it's outside this pride, so be it. And yourself, too."

Because she didn't want to make it too obvious she was singling him out.

Bitty was starting to feel the same way. This almost sounded like Mwokoti was onto Nishan's lack of a girlfriend. Heck, he was sure he'd never seen his brother so much as bat an eye at any of the pride's females and there were some pretty good looking ones wandering about. There were those nifty little cheetah lion hybrids or whatever they were too. He was definitely looking. It was healthy to have an interested in the opposite sex, or so he told himself. So long as his parents didn't try to take him aside and give him The Talk, it would all be good. He hoped Mwokoti wasn't going to start on The Talk either. He'd had enough of talking about bits.

Apparently, Mwokoti was onto the fact that Nishan was a loner and didn't have a mate. She also seemed to be onto the fact that he didn't have one either. Alas. These gods were so tricky these days. "Listen, Mwokoti…. It's not like I don't want to or I can't," Bitty started, trying not to sound like he was attempting to get out of her plan. "And I wouldn't mind leaving since you gave permission but like… aren't you asking for the impossible? Nishan find a girl?" He couldn't help but raise his eyebrows. "I don't even think fate'd help him out."

Nishan would remind Thibiti later to count his lucky starts when he was smashing his face into the dirt for his lovely little commentary he hadn't had the chance to do so earlier. Anyone, anyone but Mwokoti and he'd have pounched him then and there. Not because he cared about women or even because it wasn't true (even though, you know, it totally wasn't). It was principle! Principle!

Goddesses? Tricky, indeed. Mwokoti did not take well to mortals defying her, perhaps the only trait she shared in common with her fellow entities who all seemed to have at least one self-benefitting power. She could have flared her wings up and threatened if she wanted. Blackmail was just so much better.

"You'll help him, or I'll tell Chyou it was you who ate her pet bird."

A fate worse than any a goddess could curse him with.

"And I'll bind you to this land so you can never avoid her."

Oh, except for that.

...

"... well s**t." Bitty probably had the equivalent of :< on his face at the moment, clearly having not expected the goddess to come up with that. He knew that bird would come back to haunt him in one way or another. It had been punishment for being so tasty. Of course it would have had to have been Chyou's pet bird, and his sister would kill him and de-male him if she ever learned what he'd done to it. She wouldn't have understood even if he told her it was delicious. Girls didn't understand food.

"Well um... does it have to be a girl? 'cause really, I think I might have a little more luck finding some poor so—um pretty boy who would be interested in him." He tried to grin, but somehow his face kept ending up back at :< and eventually he gave up. Find a mate for Nishan? What had he done to deserve this? Sure he'd eaten Chyou's pet bird and her pet fish, and there was that one time when he spied on Alake grooming but that totally wasn't bad enough for this!

Mwokoti had told him the curse she could inflinct upon him and had it not been counter productive to her master plan she'd have done it right there. "The goddess of traitors is a cruel mistress," she warned, the words oozing with underlined meaning. Or threatening. Whichever. "You best do things correctly when asked, my grandson."

Maybe she'd seen Nishan backhand him again as she was turning around. Maybe she'd just ignored it.

"You wuss!" he hissed. "This is all your fault for eating that bird! I told you to leavce that thing alone!"

Bitty gave a dramatic sigh. "Alright. Alright. Don't expect us back any time soon though." Why had he come today? He should have stayed home. In bed, at the very least, dreaming sweet dreams about his ideal girl. Perhaps he would be able to find her on the journey. With his luck, the girl would probably fall in love with Nishan and live happily ever after with him producing large litters of all girls. Yeah... that would suck. Hardcore.

He was roused from his cloud of self-pity by Nishan's paw across his face. "Ow man! Don't bring the bird into this! Even if I hadn't eaten it – and it was delicious okay – she would have found some other way to chase us out. It's your fault for not finding a mate already! This is what you get for being logical. No girls."

Nishan would have smacked him again, harder, if he was a mind reader. He didn't have any intention of finding some pansy whiny lioness on this trip and parking his behind wherever she was so she could have a horde of other females to bother him. He was only going because he'd wanted to see life outside the pride.

"I don't want any girls. That still isn't true. If it was you'd have a real mate, instead of stalking Alake like a creep all the time." She was practically the only lioness not related to them around who wasn't super old, not that it was an excuse. Or that he'd mused over stuff like that. He so didn't.

"Anyway... let's go."

This was gonna be a long ride.
