Kavu glanced over to where the baboon had been passed out. Sure enough, the creature had had enough sense to sneak off at some point in the conversation. Well, good for him, Kavu thought to himself with a small smile. Now he just had to get himself out of this.
He tried to look slightly crestfallen.
"The baboon ran off? Oh no! What a shame. You wanted me to help you catch him again, you said?"
Again with his 'hard of hearing.'
"Well, I suppose I should help you look. But we have no idea which way he ran! We'll never find him if we head off together. He may be in the complete opposite direction."
Kavu didn't really want to admit it, but he was actually having a bit of fun with this. Certainly a different experience than the one's he'd had lately. Or ever.

Renzi gave him the eye. Like the old saying said, fool me twice...
"Uh uh, not this time, Moon Child," Renzi barked at him, her tone leaving no room for debate. Not that she didn't expect him to try, but she wasn't caving on this one. "Even if you find him, I'd have to find you again, and I can tell you're some sort of crazy... baboon activist. If it'll take longer together, then you'll just be stuck with me forever." Was that really a threat? It sure sounded like one.
The lioness sat down and stared hard at him. "I'm going to follow your every move until we find him again, so I sure hope you're good at tracking."

Kavu's face fell. Crap. Normally, he wasn't adverse to company. Then again, most of those he'd kept company with weren't completely insane. Now he was stuck. Though this lioness was nuts, she wasn't stupid, and as far as he could tell, there was little hope in trying to convince her to go separate ways.
... So. He was going to have to try it the hard way. He braced himself and stared over her shoulder.
"OH LOOK! I think I see him there!"
Praying she would at least fall for that one, he took off running in the other direction as fast as he could. Hopefully she was slow, or somewhat blind in the dark. Kavu wasn't exactly well-camouflaged, but at least it was dark out.
As he ran, Kavu made a new resolution. Travel during the day, and sometimes, it's best to just ignore some people.
