Eamane felt herself return to conciousness abruptly but didn't open her eyes. Waking up still seemed like too much effort, she resolve never to open another package without reading the labels though- no matter how hard the code was.

It was only when she heard the big clock in the hallway chime for midnight that she pulled herself up and blinked her eyes open. She narrowed them unacustomed to the bright light and cautiously looked around. Everything seemed to be normal. She was once more sitting at her desk in her office. "Just a dream then." She muttered to herself as she managed to haul her body out of the chair. She was still a little woozy.

She was in the bathroom brushing her teeth when she was suddenly aware of the weight around her neck. Please, please be my imagination the little voice in her head cried out. But it wasn't. She lifted the strange necklace from under her shirt and stared at it in the mirror, toothbrush dangling from her mouth. "s**t."

She made her way from the bathroom into her bedroom in a sort of daze- whether from the shock or the sleep drops whe wasn't sure- and sat down on the bed. The jewelry was on a chain long enough for her to pull the pendant forward to look at it, but not so long as she could lift it off over her head. It was a dove with a branch of some kind clasped in its feet. The strange lady had said it housed a baby god or some such; perhaps it was the god of peace?

She flopped back on the bed letting go of the necklace. The elf couldn't believe she was actually accepting the words of her dream- she refused to admit that she had travelled to the ship, because that was to far-fetched. Well if it was the case she was going to soon be in pocession of a baby that meant she had some things to do. She began to mentally prepare a list as she wormed her way under the quilt.

Babies were a lot of work, even when they hadn't arrived yet. Eamane's mind still shyed away from the actual arrival of said infant, and instead she busied herself with preparations. It seemed to help a little. Not enough though to stop the small twinges of nervousness- the holy-hell-how-in-the-name-of-god-can-I-do-this? moments. She was having one of them now as she looked at her completed nursery.

The room just across from her bedroom had been converted from a study to a baby sanctuary. All the books had been relocated to her office and what furniture that could be salvaged was scattered among the house, the rest donated to the local Salvation Army. She had then painted the walls a soft yellow- who knew if it was a boy or girl. She couldn't remember if her dream messenger had told her. She had managed to dig out three colourful carpets from the attic and scattered them over the hardwood floor. Some second hand furniture- a highsided bed, dresser, rocking chair, and toy box- rounded out the room.

It would do, she decided, until the thing could talk at least. Then it could decorate its own space. Her hands absently carressed the necklace as she thought, surrending to the what-ifs that had been held at bay during her work. What if it cried all the time? What if it didn't like her? What if she didn't like it? What if she accidently dropped it into a pot of boiling water while she was making dinner?!?

The little elf shook her head violently and firmly shut the door on her thoughts. That was enough of that. Time to make dinner- thoughts of boiling water raced through her head before she could stop them- What had she gotten herself into?
