It was on the way back down the stairs when Nairne remembered something she had heard one of her older brothers say years ago. It was when he and his wife, a Thetana, were leaving to go on a caravan with several Aishe. Mostly he complained about how they made noise all through the night, and how rude they were to his bride. He also added that Aishe were quickly bored by her tribe, and the Djardi. Now the light that had been on in her head earlier was making sense.

By the time they were back in the kitchen, Nairne found herself annoyed by Fidel's complaining, something that rarely happened. Overall she was shy and a hard-worker, but now the young lady feared she was about to get rude. Trying to hide a throbbing vein in her head with her bangs, she poured herself some tea and offered the guest some as well. "I have tea if you would like some," she cooed sweetly, now trying to put on an act of her own. Though it was not for her personal gain, it certainly was for his physical state. Had she been a Veduni or a Pitivo, his rear would already be out the door. Her heart was too good, however, and she worried that he may never leave. Should she continue the sweet act that would make it seem as if the Djardi had any interest in the Aishe guest, or should she purposely try to bore him? This was something she thought about as she sipped her tea.

Remembering his question, she felt it was best not to ignore it. "All we want to do is help, which explains why we help the sick. Sort of like how you may sing to those who need cheering up. I am sure you make a pretty penny with your lovely voice." She considered winking at him, but felt it was not worth it. Maybe not now, anyway. "You are correct in assuming that most of us make little money or are poor. There are very few of us who do make a lot of gold, and those of us that do usually hide it well." Now she winked, and turned her back to him. Lifting her skirt slightly, Nairne dusted dirt from one of the bottles on a shelf. "We find wealth and happiness in helping others, not from cash. There are only so many things you can buy, and once you have it all, then what?" She turned back to him, and sat in a chair. Acting as if she herself were bored, she slammed an elbow down on the table, plopping her face on it. Strumming the table with the fingers on her other hand, she did an eyeroll that a teenage human female might do. "I wonder if those with riches wear fancy outfits, or if they stay in their older wardrobe? Maybe they don't want to get dirty. Oh, maybe they are trying to be incognito!"

Finally descended the steps, Fidel took his newly proclaimed seat at the table, leaning back to he could look at the room at a skewed, almost upside-down angle for a moment as he leaned back. For a tree, he had been expecting odd objects, boiling pots, weird colored smokes, and even a strange animal here and there. It didn’t even have a nice décor. The inside was simple, with ‘homey’ qualities that didn’t do anything for him. His own caravan was overdone, with detailed curtains, lacquered tables, and lots of cushions that begged a person to lounge for hours. In the quaint simplicity of Nairne’s home, he felt glad he was born an Aishe with a good family and a paying skill.

At the offer of tea, he gave a half-shrug, and watched as it was set on the table, followed by Nairne herself. The Djardi’s explanation made him flick his tail. Djardis didn’t seem to be a very vibrant people, and helping others to feel good seemed really tiring and lame. To risk your own health and life to be around people who probably had horrible conditions was insane, and without pay, it was ludicrous. Did these people actually enjoy this lifestyle, staying cooped up making potions and hardly getting a penny in return.

Of course they would wear them. It’s good to look nice, and if you earned it, why not?” he said, somewhat of an expert of nice wardrobes and attire. The blonde stirred the tea, but did not drink it. “Okay, so you make potions and help people, but what do you actually do for fun? ” It just didn’t seem possible that the Djardi ONLY helped people. Where was the enjoyment, the heart-pumping excitement in that?

An unusual smirk stretched across her face. This guy was good at making her act different than she normally did. Whether it was bad or good was yet to be decided, however. Still tapping the table with her fingers, she considered this. Would rich Djardi's wear their expensive clothes? Coming from personal experience, she had too many potions blow up on her. That would ruin the expensive clothes, thus being a waste. At least that explained why she never wore her two or three nice dresses.

"For fun?" her voice continued to coo, though this time she hit a high note at the end of the question. "The old lady and I go out drinking, of course. She brings her pals, and while we are drunk, we come up with stupid games." This was all a lie, of course. She never drank, and never hung out with the old lady and her 'pals.' Now Nairne was starting to enjoy herself, wondering if or when Fidel would pick up on her being obnoxious. "One game we came up with was to find the nearest person, bash them over the head with something, and take their clothes. Well, everything except their undergarments." Her laugh was throaty, but it was not fake. For someone with such a soft speaking voice, her laugh was the exact opposite. It sounded almost like an excited witch, or even a demon.

Clearing her throat, she stood and rounded the table toward him. Placing her hands on his shoulders, she began to massage. She sighed dreamily, but of what she never said. There were a few moments of silence before either spoke. "What if a Djardi's only hobby was making potions?" This time her voice was back to normal, and not sarcastic. In fact, her tone was almost melancholy. "What if we had little to no friends, and had no hobbies? Then you would really be bored, wouldn't you? Which is why you are the performer, and I am the healer."

Now the hobby was interesting, and brought his attention back. Sitting more erect, he leaned in and listened, thinking of a group of girls breaking bottles and various items over a vulnerable and probably more intoxicated friend and stripping them. The idea of girls stealing the garments from another made him lapse in a moment of imagination. Drinking games were coming where he lived, but they were usually sports for the male gender. Girls tended to flirt and dance about the tables, darting pinches and having fun being chased after. The idea of having a more masculine game played by women was something he would enjoy seeing.

A amused laugh broke from him, thinking about this. “Now THAT’S what I call fun, and here I thought you were the timid type. I didn’t take you for a such a vixen, though I don’t see why you wouldn’t steal it all. ” Fidel had no idea she was lying, as he was instantly fond of the image to ruin it with doubt.

As she rounded the corner and started to message his shoulders, he first tensed, then lapsed into a state of relaxation, feeling like a sultan that was being pampered. For a Djardi, she wasn’t TOO boring, and he wondered how she was when she wasn’t sober. Just for the possibility of seeing the other side of the healer he wasn’t seeing now, he was willing to put some effort in finding that less reserved side. The temptation of discovering another personality was flickering like a flame, drawing in his curiosity.

When she spoke of another person, his shoulders shrugged under her nimble fingers. “ If all you did was make potions and nothing else, you’re life would be boring. What would there be to live for when all you did was work? People like that are bland people that no one wants to be with.” Without warning, one of her hands were gripped by his, and the chair creaked as he turned around, rising up on his knees to look up at her. The back of the chair served as the only divider as he grinned wide up at her, pulling her hand to his side to bring her close. “ I’m a performer to have fun, and I let other people have fun. Everyone wants to taste life, and everyone wants something they don’t think they can have because they think too much. I give them a taste of excitement. That’s why I do what I do.” He continued to move closer to her in a suggestive manner that, if his path was to continue, a kiss would be claimed. “I’m sure even you like to have fun. Do you want to waste your youth doing nothing but healing and potions?

His lips were moment from her’s. “How about we have a little fun?

The closer he got to her, the faster her heart began to beat. When they were just inches from kissing, Nairne felt her tummy give a quick flip feeling. One moment she had been aggravated, the next very sad. Now she had a rush of energy that in her mind screamed for her to kiss him. It took a few moments for her to say anything, as she had to will herself into not kissing the flirtatious Aishe. "Depends on your idea of fun. If it involves getting hurt, or making fun of someone who cannot handle it, I'm out." She threw her hands up as she backed away, as if in surrender. "Otherwise, I may be interested."

Though it was only a few seconds before he spoke, a million things were running through her mind. This Fidel guy who had put on a sweet act had finally shown his true colors, and she was angry at him for it. Now he was probably acting again, something she was quick in learning he did well. So what was this warm, trusting feeling she had coming over her? Nairne knew that he could not be trusted, or more than likely should not be. He had indeed learned well what his sisters liked, and played to that like no other.

The Djardi never moved from her place, just in case he pressed on for them to get closer. Part of her was yelling to just kiss him, the other part whispering that she would be giving in. Then an idea hit her that she could not deny. He obviously liked to have fun, and to play hard-to-get would be a blast. It would be for herself, anyway. Placing both hands on her hips, she raised an eyebrow. Though she was trying to give off a somewhat seductive stance as a female Aishe might, the little whispering voice wondered if she honestly looked like a fool instead.

Rejection was not something that happened often with Fidel, and he was never fond of it. It made him bitter, annoyed, and usually throwing a unnecessary and pointless fit about something completely different later on in the day to some helpless and confused passerby. Being a self-proclaimed prince that everyone wanted meant that being turned down was something that conflicted with that idea, and he didn’t like for his little world to be shook up in an unpleasant way.

As she gave a little quirky remark, he still move in for a kiss, thinking that she was being playful and in all ways wanted his advances. As she stepped away, he was left with a moment of frozen confusion on his face, looking at the space where her lips use to be, and having his face only slightly ready to receive her lips, before the chair toddles from all the reclining and he leaned back, making him and the chair shake in place before it balanced. His ears twitched and his tail lashed about behind him in agitation. Did she just turn down one of HIS kisses? WHY?! A plain little Djardi girl like her stepping away from someone as attractive and handsome as he was, it was unthinkable, and made his head hurt. Even if Nairne had a boy on the side, he probably wasn’t even a third as eye-catching as he was. The idea of having a Djardi potion maker, who lived in a tree and was not rich, turn him down burned him to the marrow, and he glared at her a moment. His manicured fingernails gripped the back of the chair as he narrowed his eyes at her.

As she spoke, and then took on a stance that spoke volumes, he let his tail flick again. His mind debated giving up. It seemed like a lot of effort, especially for a Djardi girl who would not improve his stature to be with and would not be any sort of trophy. Still, she kept hooking him with little incentives. The idea of her ‘other side’, the mystery of magic he could never master yet he longed to see, and the waves of bashfulness to that of daring kept nagging at him. That and the rejection just now seemed to nag at him. He HAD to do something about her, even if it was just one kiss.

Releasing his grip on the chair, he set his elbows on it and tilted his head, smiling at her as he let his demeanor change back to control. “Depends? I think my idea of fun something you’d like, and certainly nothing you’re ever going to get from anyone else. It’s my art after all, and I’m really good at it if you let me show you. As for handling it, well you seem like a grown woman. I’m sure you can handle little me.” This was both a compliment and a challenge. If she couldn’t handle it, if she wasn’t old enough, if she wasn’t a child, and if she knew how to have fun and not be boring were all the things he was pushing out there and all the things he was placing on her to answer. No one wanted to admit they were a baby, boring, and unable to handle themselves and others. Denying was an insult to them.

Come on… ” He hummed, thinking of pulling out all the stops. His mind formulated a tune, and he started to hum a little song as he tried to formulate lyrics. If he could work his lyrical magic, she might be more prone to dance about, sing, or whatever the side effect was on her.

Come on now…… were both young…..lets not waste time ….lets have some fun………No one will know…..inside this tree….alone together…..just you and me…..” So it wasn’t the best thing he ever composed, but unlike talking, music was a lot harder to do on the spot, especially without a band. He leaned back up and made another advance, leaning again on the chair that tilted and creaked.. tilting….tilting…tilting towards her.

She listened as he spoke, her mind still arguing with itself. The challenge raised both of her eyebrows, and it was something that took no effort at all in deciding. Nairne would accept, but he would be playing by her rules whether he knew it or not. She may have to bring out one of the potions that was not a fictitious remedy, but what had to be done would be done.

Then he began to hum, and became quite flirty. This began to throw the Djardi off, as she assumed it would be some cruel game against someone else. Instead, he was beginning to use his magic on her. Now all of her mind wanted to give in, that it would be much easier that way. However, something told her to give in to a certain point, and then turn the tables around. Her only hope was that she would catch the right moment and take it.

As he sung to her, Nairne felt her legs start to go weak. She had never been serenaded before, even though she knew this probably was not his best. She knew that he had probably kissed much prettier Ursari, and this was just an ego boost to have yet another female kiss him. She knew now what to do, and how she was going to do it. Even if she was not the prettiest, she sure as hell would leave an impression on the golden-haired Aishe.

The further he leaned toward her, the closer she got to him. Her eyes were half closed, lips barely parted and once again just inches from his. That was until she pushed him back gently, and sat on his lap. Crossing her arms, Nairne winked, and then proceeded to put her arms around him. With a big smile, she spoke again in almost giggly tones. "You seem like you are the sort of guy who needs to be chased after. Why would you chase someone like me? What would your friends think? Surely, it will make a better story that some little Djardi girl lusted after you." With that, she planted a big wet kiss on his lips, blushing all the while. This was, after all, her very first kiss.

No matter how many times he had kissed someone, a kiss was still a kiss. At her bold advances, he was overjoyed that his talent easily persuaded her to kiss him, and his tail swished behind him with clear satisfaction. Even with that little tune, he felt more and more like a master of his own talent, enforcing the idea that he didn’t need any tutoring when he could craft such a simple tune and get this effect. Lack of dedication aside, Fidel was good at his musical magic, and his elders knew this very well. It was his attitude that ruined it. All to often he would serenade a young Ursari here. It was later that be would be dragged out of some caravan by a father or mother with a young girl or boy crying out or shouting at their parents about having been interrupted and not being understood. The community could understand that ‘boys would be boys’, but Fidel had pushed that excuse years ago.

It was why he never saw relationships as a long-term dedication. The point of having fun was that it never lasted forever. If it did, it would grow boring, and he didn’t like things to get dull. This meant that he could be with someone one week and flirting with someone in a matter of days.

His mind wasn’t on the long term with Nairne. The fact that she would be leaving soon was enough for him to have some fun, along with the fact that she would not be around to testify of his little escapade. Usually he had much higher standards to show off his taste and rank. Fidel had gone out with some of the most unattainable and highest ranking Aishe around, and though it didn’t help the Baba’s job any, it did help to spur on gossip and make him the center of attention each time.

So why Nairne? No sort of talk would be spoke about her, but Fidel had never been with a Djardi girl before, and he was interested on how they acted. Maybe he was growing bored of Aishe girls or maybe he was just bored right now and this was filling in time? Whatever the reason, he let his hands wrap around the potions maker and curled into her.

Who cares what anyone thinks? We’re alone here and now. There is not need to think of the world outside of this tree. Just think about yourself for once. There is no reason to over think these things. Just let them happen. ” He cooed, helping her to drop off those nagging thoughts everyone had. What will my mother think? People will talk? We can’t do this during my sister’s wedding? Bla. Bla. Bla. Bla. Bla. Why should I think about my friends right now? They don’t control me. I do things because I want to, and I want to be with you.” He said, leaning in and kissing her neck.

You’re as pretty as firelight and as alluring as plum crystals.

Though it was not what she meant, he had a point. His friends never controlled him, but then no one had controlled her, either. Atleast not in some time. As he gently pressed his lips on her neck, and cooed sweet nothings in her ear, Nairne could not help but feel she was being played. She knew that this was a relationship that would last maybe a few hours, but after that it would be as if nothing ever happen. So why was she still so worried? Fidel had just told her to relax, and worry about herself for once.

Maybe that was it. Nairne had never had to worry about herself before, as she regularly believed that a good head was upon her shoulders. It was also her job to try and help others, not vise-versa. Now it was as if the potion that had backfired on her was making her go numb. The problem was that it was not the potion, it was Fidel. There was no antidote for him.

Closing her eyes, she leaned back and took in everything that was happening. Her first kiss was rapidly turning into something else, something that she would have to stop. As she leaned in to kiss him again, she found that she just could not do it. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, feeling already like a failure. "We only just met, and it is a bit fast for me." Looking down, she began to fiddle with her fingers. Maybe the Djardi should have spoken up earlier.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 20, 2008 11:21 am

Fidel’s tail was swaying like a horse that had been given a fresh bag of oats, and he played around until, just as Nairne was about to kiss him, she stopped and looked down. Too fast?! Fidel had thought he had been going very slow for the Djardi. Then what was slow enough?! The idea of going at a slow pace was something he wasn’t use to and he really didn’t think it was in him. Why go slow when it wasted time. Things were better then they were fast. Life was too short to go at a snail’s pace.

As she fiddled with her fingers, he gave out a large sigh and dropped his head. “ You’re seriously too much work. I can’t be wasting time on someone who goes so slow.” He huffed. He adjusted under her and taking his hands, started to let her slip into the chair as he started to move off of it. Standing, he brushed off his pants and started to brush his hair off his shoulders to look presentable, before he looked around for where he left his coat and parasol. “If you keep waiting so long, nothing will ever happen. Slow people only go nowhere fast. Life is too short to wait for things. That’s the problem with the other families. You people think too much. All that thinking makes you slow down and then you get ALL worked up in your heads to not do want you really want to. You all should just tell your head to shut up and do what you like. Who cares about people and rules and hesitation? You live alone in a tree for Jove’s sake. Who do you have to be concerned about? Well I for one am not going to waste my time waiting for others. If you’re going to be boring, dull, and think too hard, I’m just going to go find someone else to entertain me. ” He said, turning around with a flick of his hair as he went to pick up his things.

Gathering everything, he went to her and gave her a little pat on the head. “Later slowpoke, and thanks for the kiss.
