"He couldn't leave his mother," she said, hesitating before adding honestly, "I would have gone for my family had I not started arguing with my mother. He didn't know I stayed here." There was no point denying their relationship, that was clear enough. She let him work though the news himself, staying silent- though she was visibly relieved when he said he was not angry. That was one good thing, that meant she couldn't be in a great deal of trouble because of this. And Ondo agreed that Wakia was in a much more dangerous situation because of this. Now he was the only thing she really had to worry about--
Until Ondo asked very specifically about her relationship with Wakia. They hadn't really officially said or decided anything or this wouldn't have been accidental. Though a smart lion would say it wasn't totally unexpected.
"Yes," she said carefully, with a small sigh, "He doesn't know that I'm pregnant, he hasn't been back since. He- I didn't want him to get caught."

Kidondo nodded thoughtfully. "Quite a predicament, I see." He'd never really considered that the war he had brought might have torn apart childhood sweethearts and friends. But with family influencing decisions he could see that it had been a very strong possibility indeed.
How could he be angry when it was his war that had brought about this secret relationship? A lion torn between love for his family and love for his mate. It was a hard choice and he hoped he never had to make it. Choosing between Kaanga and No...no, no, he just couldn't do it.
He understood, now, why Umlilo and this Wakia had done what they had. "I understand, truly. If it had been me in his position, I'm not sure what I would have done. If he stays here he will likely never see his family again. Yet, it sounds to me as if he has a family here now, a family waiting for him. Eventually he'll have to realise that he has a future here." He paused. "Umlilo, I'm sorry for the situation you've been put in, a situation I brought about." He nodded sadly. "When Wakia returns, send him to me. He'll likely get a lecture or two, but a sharp word is all. If he wishes to stay then I will not stand between you. Cubs need their parents - both of them. In the meantime, if there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask."

Lilo's tail swayed calmly behind her as she listened, much more at ease now that he was much calmer and evidently understanding of the situation she was in. Now she needn't worry about herself and the cubs, she only had to hope that Wakia was not found out on his side and would return. At least he did not have to carry around physical evidence of the relationship as she did, but now she didn't need to hide it so carefully. Telling her father would be interesting, but at least that was a much less official conversation.
"Thank you," she said, "It's a relief to know we're not in trouble. I'll make sure he comes to see you when he comes back. A sharp word from you should be the least of his worries."
She glanced off in the distance, where she had initially considered heading in hopes of running into Wakia. It was less urgent to find him now, this could be dealt with on some level without him. But she would still be on the lookout for him.

“I’ll inform No so that she’s aware of the situation.” Kidondo smiled kindly. “Don’t worry, Umlilo, I’m sure things will work out alright in the end.” He shook his head. “I’m sorry, this turned out to be quite a heavy conversation for what I meant to be a simple hello.”
He chuckled. “Either way, this is fantastic news. Cubs in the land are just what we need, I think. Signs of new life always bring joy and hope. Your little ones will be one of the first litters this part of the desert has seen in a long time.” He dipped his head. “I’ll let you get going now. Come and find me if you need anything, okay?”

"Alright," Lilo nodded, happy to be worry-free in that regard. And she couldn't help but smile at Kidondo's comment about only wanting to say hello, "Perhaps next time we could have a more casual conversation." Though she knew cubs would take up a fair bit of attention, especially as she was determined to be a better mother than her mother had been. So perhaps there would be discussions about them. The more Ondo said, the more she thought so.
"Ok," she said, returning the nod. She turned, not to head off the way she had been going originally but back the way towards her den. She could relax, she needed it.
"Bye," she called, glancing back before heading off.
