When the teacher left Micajah couldn't help but wonder him not saying anything about all the choking and coughing as trying to be polite for the boy's feelings on the issue or just being generally unconcerned. He wasn't expecting anything out of the man, like instant connection and hopes for one another's well being, so he took it to be the second choice over the first. It also seemed to be more of a demon-like reaction, the disinterest in things that didn't matter to you, so he felt even better passing it off that way.

He got out of the tub after a few moments, when he was completely sure that Gideon was gone and out of the room, allowing himself to stand up in the water and finally brush his hair upwards and off of his shoulders. He got out and quickly toweled himself off, taking care not to rub too hard or it would smart when he got out into the cold, and moved to dress neatly.

After a few moment he came out of the room and walked over to Gideon's side, his eyes facing downwards instead of up towards the man. His hair, which they had been talking about, was pulled upwards in a twist and held in place with a butterfly clip, one that actually sported a rather intricate butterfly design on it.

"...I am ready to go when you are."

Finishing up his conversation quickly, Gideon laughed and paid both of their bills, before opening the door and gesturing for Micajah to lead the way. As they strolled along, he offered up a topic of conversation. "I have a few questions for you, Micajah, in exchange, you may ask me questions as well."

A harmless smile.

"How did you come to be a student at ShinKami?"

Micajah opened his mouth to protest slightly as he watched the teacher pay his bill for the use of the bath, a small 'ah' escaping his lips as his gaze actually turned upwards, though he had a feeling that saying anything to this man about paying him back would probably be met with a deaf ear. Instead all he could do was mumble his thanks and tint his cheeks a slight shade of pink - he was unused to people doing things for him without wanting something in return.

He makes me uneasy. I need to be careful.

"That sounds fair enough. I was sent to ShinKami by my father, to enroll in the Science division."

He took a few steps out of the door as he spoke, making sure to bow his head politely to the women who worked the baths as his way of thanking them for his time there. Even without being verbal he still had his manners.

"He insisted I come here, to watch."

"To watch? Your father sounds like an interesting man." Gideon rubbed at his jaw briefly, glad for his warm, black military coat. Though the large male ran hot, he still felt the effects of the now cold weather. It was starting to snow again. Although, he quickly picked up the oddity of Micajah's statement, and he laughed, with real delight.

"And so you are enrolled in the magic division?" Ah, he was growing to like the boy, if be wary of him. He'd also noted that the magic student had used odd wording concerning his mother. Was she gone? Deceased or just MIA..? Hm.

Micajah smirked.

"Naturally. What son wants to do as his father tells him? I enrolled in the Magic division out of spite, only at first, but now that I've gotten a chance to think about it I was probably always better suited to Magic then Science anyway."

He couldn't see himself standing on a battlefield away, with a weapon in his hand and bodies of those he'd slain around his feet. That kind of imaging was best left for the times when he was dreaming, not when he was facing reality. Now standing in a desert and making it rain? That was something he could see.

"And that was two questions, by the way. I do believe it's my turn for some answers."

He pressed a finger to his lips, trying to think what would actually be useful for him to know. All of this had to be recorded, though he could omit the conversation bits involving his mother, and he wondered what could act as a bargaining tool.

"You've said before that you know of magic that uses hair. Did you make that up because it sounded like something I wanted to hear, or do you honestly know of a spell style?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 1:49 am

Gideon's expression, briefly playful at Micajah's wit, instead settled into something that was more... Amused. Darkly amused. "Many of the darker magics involve sacrifice of the body or spirit. Hair, blood, soul. That type of thing, so yes, I suppose I do, although I would not call it a style, persay." His answer, while valid, lacked depth, just as the boy's had.

Of course a demon would know of such magic. He even added a bit more. "There are many historical documents about such, as well as research. Most cultures have some form of magic involving the hair, nails, or blood." A small smile. "Such things rarely involve the elements, though."

He couldn't help but chuckle slightly at how aburd it sounded, all the while knowing that many books are written based on fact rather than fiction. In the case of the magic world he was pretty sure people didn't make things up for their own enjoyment.

"I'm well aware about the use of blood for magic, as well as the use for a soul, but hair and nails sounds a little...ridiculous. Can you image a magician coming up to you, tossing toenails into the air, and casting some form of spell? Or someone standing around a tooth you've lost all the while setting a curse upon you using it?"

Okay, so he read way too many books on subjects like curses. It was only natural at his age to be interested in what is forbidden, right? To anyone the temptation of something you can't have, something you must never do, is often too sweet to the point of any logic.

"It's your turn, you know."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 2:02 am

"That would be ridiculous, if that was how it was done." A short smile that lacked humor showed that Gideon, while a good-natured fellow, took some of his lore a bit seriously. [After all, he had both cast spells, and been the recipient of some spells.] His hair hadn't been so short, when he was a lot younger, and less wise. "Some native american cultures even refuse to spit outside, for fear of their own fluids being used against them."

A brief pause, and he smiled. "Who is your father, to want you to observe the going-on's of this school and its residents?"

They were back on the offical school grounds now.

"Wouldn't you like to know?"

There it was, the cryptic answer and smile that echoed from Micajah's mouth. While his face was pulled into that expression of complete refusal, his eyes narrowed down and his cheeks so distorted that his face nearly looked pointed, it was his body that was telling the truth about his answer to the question.

He had stopped walking, and for a moment it looked like he was trembling.

It quickly stopped, however, when he moved his right hand up to the back of his neck and rubbed it, a small sigh escaping his lips and his legs starting to move again.

"I'll give that one to you as a freebie, so feel free to ask me something else before I ask you again."

He was wondering how long it would be before someone - anyone - asked him about who his father was and his real reasons behind being here at the school. Sure he could play it off that he was here to save humanity like the rest of the guys, a regular talento pulled off the streets by ShinKami scouts, but for some reason as of late he was finding it harder and harder to try and cover. So much harder.

"... No. I think you answered my question well enough, Micajah." Whatever Gideon was thinking was well-hidden behind his slightly amused smile, and he waited for Micajah to begin moving again. The demon was good at reading body language, and therefore was able to walk beside the boy, while still letting him take the lead.

He was awful hungry. "So, feel free. Unless you have no more questions for the night?" He sounded like he was enjoying himself.

"Do you...hate humans at all? For what we've done to your kind?"

It was an oddball question, completely out of left field, and for a moment Micajah regretted asking it. It was almost like asking a person who'd had their family killed if they felt no hatred towards the person behind the deed.

"Wait, no. Never mind, forget I asked that. Look, the cafeteria is right over there, and it looks like it's still open."

He moved his hand and pointed to a small area designated for eating, his pace quickening as it came into sight. He was mildly proud of himself that he got here on only his second or third (he couldn't remember) try, considering how he used to get so lost just trying to get to the library even, and he gave a weak smile towards the demon man he was walking with.

The awkward feeling he'd had back in the bath house, the one where he felt like he wanted to be dead? It was coming back.

Gideon slowed the poor boy by briefly placing a large, gentle hand on his shoulder, pausing just outside of the cafeteria. "No, Micajah. I don't." Letting go of the younger male, he rubbed at his jaw again, black gaze going out to the snow and the now darkening sky. "I feel a great sadness, when I think about it. That is one of the reasons I am here, at this school. To help bridge the gap between races. My people, as well, have done horrible things to humans."

Smiling tiredly, although it wasn't without all of his prior good humor, Gideon nodded toward the cafeteria. "Forgive me, but I have had a long day, so I do think I will just get some food to bring to my rooms. I enjoyed running into you." He slid his hands into his pockets. "Perhaps we will have another of these conversations soon. I trust you know how to find my office, if you need to speak to me?"

"Yes...that. That sounds like it might be interesting. But by then I'm pretty sure you'll know everything there is to know about who I am and who my father is, so the question is whether or not you will want to meet me again, not if you are able to."

In the end everything boiled back to his Father. This was one of the reasons Micajah didn't trust himself to be around adults, let alone ones in positions such as this teacher before him was, and now that he'd opened his mouth and said things he probably shouldn't have there wasn't much left here to say or do. Adults were only interested in what power they could gain, their minds already set in their ways so far ahead that nothing could sway them.

"I...I think I'll be heading back to my room then as well. I wasn't really hungry to begin with, I'm not much one for eating al..after a bath or shower. I'll probably regret it though when I wake up feeling like I swallowed a stone or something, but it's a good way to prevent gaining extra weight or developing bad eating habits."

Micajah moved back and away from the teacher, smiling brightly as if to change the mood he'd somehow managed to set around himself. If perhaps they did meet again then all would be well, but he wasn't going to get his hopes up.

This was a repeat of what had happened many times before, after all.

Micajah's actions and the words he chose were incredibly revealing, and although Gideon had no intentions of avoiding the boy, he would also be looking into his file, and seeing what he could find. Perhaps even writing to his own father. After all. Their company specialized in finding both artifacts AND people. Still, he smiled warmly at Micajah. "I do not think you need to be worried about gaining extra weight." The boy was pretty thin.

"Have a good night, Micajah, and..." His voice was slightly concerned, more solemn, "... Try not to let your thoughts consume you." With a nod, Gideon stepped into the cafeteria, letting the door shut behind himself.

Tonight, the demon would scavenge in the cafeteria, soon though, he'd go to the store to buy groceries for his own fridge and stove that he knew awaited him in his room.
