The library was very quiet, save for the clickyclickclicky noise of heels hitting the tiled floor. Ella didn't mean to be loud, but her low heels were the only shoes she had at the moment that was serviceable. The poor girl had run in to take refuge from the rain, clad in only a long dress, jacket, and a pair of low black heels. She'd been wandering the campus alone, as Danni and Alex were together, aswere Rosie and Colin. She hadn't even bothered to try and find Yule.

She rounded a corner, a book clutched in her arms and stopped. A boy-a particularly handsome boy- was meditating by the window. As a witch, she understood the importance of it, and how it was horrible to be disturbed. She glanced down at her clickly heels, and removed them, tiptoeing across the space to not disturb him. In theory, the idea would work. However, she was horridly clumsy. As if something jumped in her way, her foot caught on a chair leg, and down she went tumbling, dropping her book and probably waking everyone within a 5 mile radius with her clatter. Her heels tumbled from her hand.

Regardless of just how noisy she'd been (already a few heads were popping out from behind shelves just to see if anyone had died), Sam's blue-greenish eyes merely opened, and found her lying on the ground. Of course his heart skipped a beat at seeing a pretty girl strewn across the ground, and wondered what had made her trip so badly, but he remained calm because there were only few times when a fuss was really needed.

Once he unfolded his legs and was standing from his perch, Sam stood about five foot ten. Long legs helped him reach her faster in two strides.
"Are you alright?" he whispered once he was kneeling by her with a hand extended for her aid. The heels that were haphazardly tumbled from her grasp reminded him how he was barefoot. Most people didn't like feet, and now poor Sam wondered if he'd offend her on their first meeting. He was always worrying about the strangest things bothering people, even if they were silly.

Ella looked up at him with her wide blue eyes and smiled, accepting his hand up. She was impossibly short compared to him, just like with everyone else.
" Thank you. I'm fine." She bent to retrieve her shoes and flushed.
" I'm sorry. I tried not to disturb you, so I took my shoes off so they didn't click but.." She gestured to the chair.
" I always seem to make a fool of myself." She laughed softly. " I know how annoying it can be whem someone pops in when you're meditating, so I'm very sorry I caused such a racket." She dipped her head and picked up her book.
" I'm Ella, by the way." She said, fixing her book in her arms and preparing to go. Everyone had already gone back to their business.

Sam just sort of stared at her and watched her lips move so quickly, forming words that gave her away as someone from the UK. He had spent a good bit of his life there, but hadn't exactly taken up a pure accent because of his father. His mother had tried influencing his speech every now and then, but he seemed to be caught between two worlds.

And then she said a few words that piqued his interest so much, he reached out to touch her arm softly before she could scurry away.
"Ah... sorry, just, you said you knew how it is? When people interrupt?" Sam's cheeks flushed a bit before he smiled it all away. No need to get flustered, as was his motto.
"Do you... are you interested in that sort of thing? I see you don't like wearing shoes inside." He teased, wiggling his own toes to show that on such a rainy day, some comforts were better taken than left to courtesy.

Ella smiled gently, wiggled her toes, and motioned towards the seat he previously was. They both danced over and took a seat. She smiled again.
" Well, frankly, yes. I'm...well, I'm a witch. You know, Paganism. So, I've done alot of meditation in my lifetime, and I'm really into metaphysical things." She smiled and flushed again.
" I spend alot of time around this stuff." Her arm tingled where he touched it.
" What about you? Big metaphysic guy, too?"

"Ah..." Something about her being a witch didn't rest right with him, but then what beliefs did he have? Nothing conventional, to be sure. If anything, he was leaning towards Buddhism, but was still on a spiritual path for truth. Regardless of his own inner knots, what she said intrigued him greatly, so he tucked his feet under his legs again and got ready for what promised to be a good conversation.

"Well, not a big metaphysic guy, but I like meditation, and yoga. I guess you might call me a hippie or something, as I like the pure foods, outdoors and good energy. I sort of follow the crystal stuff, but I'm not in too deep with much. All spread out, you know?"
He didn't do anything evil, though. With a little jump of realization, he hurriedly added, "And my name's Sam."

Ella bobbed her head and smiled.
" Very nice to meet you, Sam. Yeah, I know. I follow the same code. I haven't had any meat since I was three, and sometimes, it can be very difficult to deal with anything holding bad energy." She smiled at him, somewhat sadly, and it seemed like that was all she ever did lately. Smile sadly.
" So, how come you chose Grove? It's a nice place and all, but.." She trailed off, realizing he may not have yet met any of the more unconventional students.

"Ah, well, I eat fish and some poultry, so I don't get anemic." He itched his head a bit. He'd been chastised so many times by his mother and friends, accused of being a wimp and so much more just because of his life style. Ella, though, wasn't about to judge.

Sam, though, had learned from Grove that judging was a terrible thing to do, especially when the person across from you could singe you with fire summoned from who knew where. That certainly hadn't been in the brochure.
"As for Grove, I came here because of the scenery. Friendly people, excellent words about it... But I suppose not everything is as it seemed, eh?"

Sam was alluding to the death of a girl earlier in the year. He'd been at the ball, seen the chaos, but not the creature or the body. Some of his friends had, and most of them left.

Her unfairly pretty face grew somber.
" Yeah, Verdi. I know the guy who was friends with her; he took it pretty hard, though he didn't show it." She shook her head.
" That is life I suppose. We all have our purpose." She smiled and shrugged.
" What can you do? They haven't found the cure for death, and I don't think they should or ever will." She looked slightly nervous about the odd subjects.
" Anywhoo..how long have you been going here Sam? I've been here since the beginning of last year, with my friend Colin and Danni, who are currently probably making love-eyes at their loves." An eyeroll showed what she thought about that.

Sam wanted to ask her if she thought death was a disease, because in some circles it was seen as a gift. But she was moving on with the conversation faster than he could keep up, it seemed.

"I've been here since the beginning of last semester. The ball was my first formal event here." Spoiled by evil, he thought. But it was a bit exciting, thinking of it as an adventure like he was supposed to be learning about, and not a constant threat.

"And.. Love eyes?" he repeated with a bit of embarrassment. He was facing the same predicament, with every one of his friends paired off with someone who consumed all of their time.

" I'm sure you know what I mean. Where the other just consumes all their time, and they look at them as if they were looking at an angel or something." She rolled her eyes again.
" It's silly." She stopped, telling it made him embarressed. She held her tounge and let him lead the conversation for a little bit.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 17, 2009 5:38 pm

"I wouldn't say it's silly to them," he tried. "But I know what you mean. You just sort of get pushed aside a lot more than you're used to because of someone else."
But he shrugged and smiled, not wanting to pay attention to it at the moment. After all, he wasn't about to wish any ill will on someone when they were so happy with that someone else.

"Regardless, I uh... I was just doing some reading for my English class. Ever read Wuthering Heights? It reminds me a bit of the countryside when I was little." He pulled out the copy gently from underneath her knee with an awkward laugh, knowing she'd no idea she'd been sitting on it at all.

Ella gave him an impish smile and scooted so he could get the book.
" Actually, I haven't. I've read alot of other classics, but not that one. What's it about?" She asked, her face forming into an attentive expression as she watched him.

Sam gave her a plot synopsis of the dark romance on the moors, and said that while he hadn't finished reading it, what he'd read online to prepare himself sounded very interesting. With his calm demeanor and gentle smiles, Sam seemed very comfortable, despite the nervous laughs he sometimes gave. Just looking up from his hands to catch her blue eyes looking at him made him squirm.

"So that's what I learned while you were tripping. Are you sure you're alright? Shoes still intact along with your shins?"

" Check and check." She stuck out her legs and wiggled them a bit.
" All still together, I believe." She said, grinning wolfishly.
" I'm really quite clumsy, so I'm used to falling over, don't worry." She said, poking her knee and examining a brilliant purple bruise that was forming on it.
" I'll be proud of that one."
They continued chatting, discussing in depth literature and their seperate metaphysical beliefs. Ella had never had such a deep conversation, nor an intelligent conversation partner.
