To be pedantic, his definition is the closest.
Scotch as the colonials call it is
Whisky, also in Japan & Canada they use this nomenclature.
Bourbon or Rye is
Whiskey, as are any Irish varieties.
It's an assumption, but I think the Irish use the alternative (Miss)spelling as there is no peat used in the curing process.
As my pallette runs to the very peaty end of the specturm I forgoe Bourbon & Irish for the Scotch, specificaly Islay Malts or Blends.
