"Glide?" She was very interested in this much easier thing. Flying was too hard. Still frowning, she flapped her wings again, this time taking it a bit slower to not wear herself out too quickly. After several moments, she managed to actually get to the point where one could almost say she was flying. She looked at the teacher like 'okay, teach me this easy thing now'.

"You flap for a bit till you can hold yourself up. You'll have to do the harder faster flapping, but it will only be for a while. Once you have enough air under you, you stretch out and curve your wings and just use the air under you to let you slowly drift down. That's really all their is to that." he said with a calm nod.
"I'll let you go so you can try that when you've got enough air under you for it. If you can't keep it up, I'll catch you and take you back up here until you can. Once you hit the ground, you and your mother are free to go." he explained with a calm nod. His voice sounded much less cold and mocking now and much more like he was talking to an equal rather than intimidating a student. Which, really he was. She was more on his level now - wanting to find the easiest way to get the hell out of class.

Allete frowned, but flapped harder as the teacher had said. Finally, she seemed to be flying on her own instead of having her a** hauled up from where she'd been comfortably sleeping not all that long ago. She stretched her wings out and curved them a bit. It took her a few moments to get the exact positioning down, but she was then gliding. Not gracefully, admittedly, but it was working.
Ah, but she would be so glad when she finally got to the ground and could leave. And sleep.....

Rachel flew forward, his wing size, skill and speed allowing him to get down to Allete's level a bit, where he could then glide along with her.
"There, you accomplished something, and flying's difficult. You can tell your mother that and she might let you get out of having to do much else today. Your wings may be sore but a bit of care to them - hot water, cold water alternation - should clear that up fine and be relaxing. It's best to rest after stuff like this." he stated calmly as he flew down, and in an undertone to the girl, finished with, "So you pretty much just got yourself a free ride through the rest of the day if you play your cards right."

Oh Allete had pretty much figured that much out and knew just how to play her cards... She glided the rest of the way down and managed to land... planting her face into the ground of course. Landing was not easy. But she didn't move after landing.
When Niki rushed forward, concerned, she realized what had happened. The girl was snoring. She groaned. Well, it seemed that she'd managed to learn a bit today, gathering from the girl's gliding. The woman hadn't been able to make out most of what had happened at first, them being too high up to make out much, but she'd seen Allete glide. Which was a good sign.
The woman smiled at the man. "Thank you. It seems she's worn out now..." She somehow managed to haul Allete off the ground, glad that the girl hadn't gotten too big yet. Niki wouldn't be able to carry her for much longer... but she could at least get the girl to the vehicle and get them home...

"Have a good day ma'am." he said with a bow and went to go find somewhere to sit down and enjoy the sunlight outside for a while. May as well anyway, since he wasn't entirely sure he had any other classes that day anyway and wasn't sure what to do next.
What? Was he supposed to write down a report? Student is lazy as ******** but being held up at a great height and told that if she doesn't try to fly and at least learn to glide, she's not getting down again without ending up hurt proved effective in getting her to at least make an attempt. Same trick may not work more than once. That's all he could presently think to write but he didn't have paper with him anyhow. Well, he'd do it neatly inside after he'd finished chilling outside. It would help clear his thoughts anyway and the report on the session would be much neater after he'd been allowed a little rest and thought clearing time anyway.
