I generally assume that if i'm playing a mage, they are worse than me with a sword, but thats because i've had some amount of training in how to stick one into people. I'm not amazing by a long shot, and in real life observances, if you take someone who doesn't know what they are doing and put them against someone who does, the clueless person can still win. Swinging a sword isn't hard, but technique is, though technique doesn't increase your odds of survival by a whole lot, uness you are amazingly, and I mean amazingly good. If you took a skilled person and an unskilled person, the unskilled will probably win one in every four- five rounds. For being unskilled thats quite a bit. As far as weapon weights go, no, they aren't very heavy at all. People have a large misconception that they weigh something god awful when they really don't. The problem is that most people do not have any endurance, and coupled with the fact that they don't know how to properly hold the weapon, they get tired fast, because when you wave 5 pounds of metal out in front of your face for a couple of minutes, it starts getting heavy.

But as much as there is real world comparison, everything is different because 1) This is a game, and 2) It is a fantasy setting. How much fun is it if your master swordsman loses in a duel to a peasant? Or if you have to really worry about getting tired from swinging a weapon a couple of times?

Here comes my contribution... get ready for a re-hash of an idea I had.

Dragoon

The Dragon Knights who have practiced an ancient and devistating style of combat since the date of their inception, which is now lost in time. Able to wreak havoc and instill fear in any enemy force (given the correct situation), they are an impressive prescence on the battle field.

Weapons They Can Use: Masters of bladed polearms, be it of eastern or western origin. It is not unusual to see a Dragoon fight with a naganata or kwandao, though most prefer the spear, halberd, or lance.

Armor They Wear: Much like the warriors, they are not partial to any type of armor and can wear any type, though the heavier pieces are reccomended.

Ablities: Dragoons have had intensive training in the arts of arial combat. The impressive ability to leap into the heavens, even with heavy armor, is a feat that none other can perform, and thus is a Dragoon's signature. More frightening, however, is the ability to tame what for centuries was thought to be untamable... Dragons. With them as allies, a battle will surely be theirs; but this is usually used at a last resort, seeing as they can hold their own in a fight.

Strengths: Airborne support and the flexibility of armor types are major factors in a Dragon Knight's success. The mastery of polearms is a definite plus, giving them a range advantage in battle. And then, there are the Dragons, intelligent and loyal creatures who are useful for the "last ditch effort" scenario.

Weaknesses: Heavy armor restricts movement, and mobility is a part of any effective force. Furthermore, if the range advantage with polearms is overcome by an opponent, it could spell trouble, unless the practitioner is a master in close combat. As for the dragons, the soul of both dragon and dragoon are linked, and it is a strain on the mind to call them forth, thus draining almost all of one's energy. Hence, the "last ditch effort" scenario.

Rank Titles: Initiate - Spearman - Lancer - Rider - Dragoon

Well, there's my two cents. Here's hoping it gets through.

Id like to say the classes to me are a mix between FFXI and DnD but what ever floats the WoG boat makes it float.

Quote:

Ninja

Ninja the silent shadow (whether thats an oxymoron or not it makes it sound semi-cool so hush xp ) tend to hide and wait to strike. They are about the very oppisite of Paladin. They don't fight for honor they do what they must to get there task completed. Whether it be gathering information to killing. Known to most as deadly killers for hires, few know the other usues spying and other task there hired for which requires them to be intellegent. Not only must he be sneaky and sly but be prepaired for all situtions. There tools can be range from a fork they just found to a fine crafted blade. Their way of life is through secreacy(sp?) and there way of living depends on the person.

Weapons they can use: Anything they can lift in a way to protect themselves against others. Mailnly medium to diminuite blades. Can weild large blades but at a disadvatage.
Armor they wear: Light usually dark blue sometimes stained red (so there blood doesn't show when they are cut) full of pockets where many tools are hidden.
Abilities: Depends on the person Average ninjas really on stealth and speed. Others depends heavily on tools and on rare casses some depend on raw or brute strength.
Strengths: Stealth, intellegence, quick witted, mysterious ways.
Weaknesses: Being exposed ( a weakness in there ways, being found out of
Rank titles:
( Highest Ranks) Kenshu (Male) Kunichi ( Female)
Shinobi
Ninja
( a few others which i forget)

Ofcourse since this is the class i go under i might seem a bit a biased. *shrugs I might be and im preety sure theres lots of errors in there. Im just busy elsewhere and felt like something needed to be added to get the RP started. Fix it add whatever you want just as long as you dont stereotype ninjas as only Assassins that only cary around swords and caltrops and smoke bombs to win the day.

I just felt like adding my twocents since Alycone hasn't done it yet.

HeavenSong
Well, there's my two cents. Here's hoping it gets through.

And my two cents:

Unless they have some type of magic aiding them, more than likely air magic, or earth magic used to create some sort of 'springboard' or launching device to throw them from the ground, they're never going to get very high at all unless they jump off of a rooftop.

As much as this place seems to love those stereotypes that you find in RPG games and such, we also like to have... what's it called... 'realism'?

No 1000 lb swords, no bouncing back into the fray after taking an arrow through the neck and choking on your own blood for five minutes, and no anime jumps.

As for the dragons bit... um... yah... Somehow I doubt you'll be getting INTO any fights with a dragon wandering around beside you, because nobody is going to want to risk pissing off the dragon. xp And, I don't really see why it is a 'last resort' thing, because they're obviously not going to risk getting themselves killed when there is a dragon right there to help them, and if the dragon isn't right there... well... they'd be dead by the time it GOT there... Let's leave it at that.

Okay, lets start... I've already got two characters that are more or less this class, so lets work with this first... also, since it seems to be at the top of the list and isn't disputed in some way.

Archer Class
Archers

Archers are deft and swift, relying on a single well-placed strike to knock out their opponent rather than dragging it out into something heated, where they would be at a disadvantage. They prefer wide-open spaces to closed ones, so that they can take advantage of their skill in ranged weaponry to get the drop on an opponent, and are generally found as backup to a companion; providing cover fire from a safe distance.

Weapons they can use: Archers are most skilled in ranged weapons, such as bows, darts, and crossbows. They can also use small blades reasonably well, though a longer sword is a bit too cumbersome for the liking of the common Archer, as he prefers his strikes quick and precise.

Armor they wear: Archers wear little or no armor, as they tend to stay out of direct combat whenever possible, and the impedement to motion that heavier armors would provide is detrimental to their ability to quickly and skillfully fire an arrow. Common types of armor would include leather jerkins, chainmail, ringmail, splint mail, greaves, bracers, and helmets without a faceguard. Archers do not wear gauntlets, however, because the thick fingerguards make notching an arrow difficult.

Abilities: As an archer progresses in his skill, he gets more proficient in his art, being able to fire off arrows more rapidly and accurately, being able to fire while moving and still hit the target, and improving their skill with a melee weapon as well. They tend to keep a low profile, and most manage to sneak about almost as well as a thief or rogue in order to find a good vantage point to fire from.

Strengths: Archers are very good at ranged combat, and it would take a fool to rush head-on at one across an open area. In close combat, they are quick and agile, as well. Archers generally are in good physical condition, because they do a great deal of running to get to a good firing position, and their upper body strength is similar to that of a warrior due to the draw of their bows.

Weaknesses: Not as sturdy as some of the more combat-oriented classes, and generally focusing more upon stealth and speed than wearing heavy armor to protect themselves, when these marksmen take a hit, they tend to take it hard.

Rank titles: Trainee - Archer - Ranger - Sharp Shooter - Ace

I said 'take it or leave it', no?

You tried, I prodded. I would have prodded even if you hadn't tried, so...

It's a simple law of nature. If you post something for review in a thread which I watch, I will give you two cents. You don't have to keep said pennies, or even look at them, evne to simply read the 'in god we trust' or whatever the hell is written on them... But it's nice to know they're there.

Shiro Harukaze
Hi there ^^ i've been a close watcher of WoG, yet i still havent finished a rather decent bio (imo) to submit.... yet i'd like to help out on the ninja form you submitted on Songjewel's WoG Classes thread

here's my view of it... and i'd like to share it with ya (mainly because you could be right on some, and i could be horribly wrong on the things i might put here xp

Ninja Class

Ninja

Ninja, the silent shadow, tend to hide and wait to strike. They are about

the very opposite of a Paladin. They don't fight for honor, they do what

they must to get the task completed. Whether it be gathering information

or killing. Not only should S/He be sneaky and sly, but must be prepared

for all types of situations. With an assorted and quite impressive

ammount of tools at their disposal, and above anything else their quick

wits, they can overcome the most difficult of situations. Their way of

life through secrecy as well as their way of living depends on the

individual.

Weapons they use:

The tools of the trade for a standard Shinobi (ninja) are to use weapons

which are easy to carry, transport, and hide in an instant. That is why

they tend to prefer to carry "Shuriken" which are small, sharp throwing

disks shaped as stars. They also use "Kunai" or throwing knives or darts,

which can be dipped in poison to kill their target in a stealthy manner.

Besides those two they also use, but are not limited to the following:

Oyabun (large Katana-like blade), Katana, Wakizashi (smaller, one-handed

type Katana), Kodachi (small Katana-like blade. it is longer than the

Tanto, but is smaller than the Wakizashi), Tanto (katana-like combat

knife), as well as many other concealable weapons.

Abilities:

Depends on the person, but on average, ninjas rely on stealth and speed. Others depends heavily on tools and on rare casses some depend on raw or brute strength.

Strengths:

Stealth, Intellegence, Improvisational artists.

Weaknesses

Since they Use light armor in order to gain speed and dexterty, they lose

on defense, thus making them weak against heavy and/or sharp weaponry. When exposed during a mission, they also lose their advantage of being hidden within the shadows.

Ranks:

blaugh >

now as for me... well... there's MY two cents regarding the Ninjas....

i might not be a total TMJ, but i could give it a shot from time to time xd

(and yes, i have read most of WoG plot...before and after the 5 year period Sey put in the WoG RP)
