Kitambi resisted the urge to give Mtembei The Stare, instead focusing on trying to look polite and somewhat nice. Boys always wanted nice girls to bring home, and Mtembei was no exception. So long as she smiled for his mother and promised to have nice cubs then all was well. Of course, what Mtembei didn't know was that they weren't going to be staying around his mother long enough for her to see those nice cubs that would not be coming. They still had to go and meet Kitambi's mother, and she wasn't going to wait until she had cubs to do that.
"I think we'll be okay out here, but thank you anyways." She tried her best to sound convincing. "Mtembei and I will find a place to stay nearby. If you'll excuse us." The young lioness gave Mtembei a very pointed nudge with her nose. The message was very clear: go that way and go now.

Depending on what your opinion on time spans was, you might say Mtembei and Kitambi hadn't been together long. In more ways than one. He'd tell you they'd been together, if not long, long enough. He knew that look, that tone, why she was nudging him and something didn't feel right.
"She's a bit shy," he mouthed to his mother, just barely quirking his head in the direction of his mate. 'Mate'. "I'll come see you again soon." Eventually soon.
Mtembei went that way and went now.

As for Leboya, she went 'that' way (the opposite), only after bowing her head and nodding the lovely little pair off on their way, sitting and watching until both of their figures had disappeared off into whatever distance they were going to take, before she'd moved to take her own leave.
One child was alive and well...
...
Perhaps the other would show their face sooner or later, let mother know if they were alive or not.... Good omens in general, yes.
A mother had gotten some peace of mind. She was going to enjoy it for a time.
