xd I love how in almost every thread, we somehow transfer talk to food.

It's what Jews do well and what binds the culture together.

Now if someone could tell me the difference between a matzo ball and a knedlach, I'll give them one free internet.

Ehhhhhh....One's Yiddish?

Knaidel (plural = knaidlach): Like a won-ton, a little square of dough filled with a teaspoon or so of meat filling, usually found floating in chicken broth.

Matzah ball: A ball made from matzah dough. Yes, it's simplistic, so here's the recipe.

Basic Matzah Ball Recipe

4 eggs, well beaten
1/4 C oil (canola for floaters, olive for sinkers)
1/2 tsp salt
dash of pepper
1 C water, broth, or seltzer
1 C matzah meal

Put each ingredient into a mixing bowl, stirring thoroughly with a fork after each addition. Set bowl in refrigerator for 45 minutes to firm up.

After 45 minutes, get out the bowl. Don't flour your hands; this won't help you at all. Wet them instead with cool water, then use a teaspoon to make a ball, maybe half the size of a ping pong or golf ball. Drop this into boiling water or broth and let it boil for five minutes, and do the same with the rest of the batter.

After five minutes, fish out the matzah balls and deposit them into a DIFFERENT pot of boiling broth. Boil for 5 more minutes, OR simmer for 15, then serve.

Jazz up the recipe by adding pinches of other spices to your matzah ball batter. I like powdered garlic, ginger, paprika, and sometimes a splash of sesame oil.

Also, Kingpin: I like using filo dough (by the way, it's pronounced FEE-lo, not FYE-lo, if you're talking to someone who actually speaks Greek) for knishes, but because it's hard to work with, sometimes I'll use puff pastry. Also useful sometimes, a store-bought pie crust mix; won ton skins (mini-knishes); or anything that could also be used to wrap knaidlach or samosas. Experiment, it's fun.

And now... back to Chanukah...

So what do you want for Chanukah...

and before we get ahead of ourselves...

Nor can you choose "I want to decide who lives and who dies." as your choice for what you want for Chanukah...

I want a laptop, but will settle for a X-Box 360.

I want a sewing machine. A NEW sewing machine. The one my sister uses was made in post WWII east Germany. It even has an eagle that resembles that of the Third Reich! Special.

Something comparable believe it or not is a set of make brushes. Nice ones made with real hair will generally run you 150 for a set of 8-12. Ridiculous right? Not for those of us who have more fun picking out the days makeup over an outfit. Don't get me wrong, I have my natural days that I absolutely love but makeup is like finger painting on your face. What's not to love?

XBOX 360=Battlefront, which I love if I'm not being schooled by 8 year olds. I always got to witness Fable 2 friday and it look like a lot of fun. Maybe I should get into this video game thing.

Speaking of Fable....

(sings the only Chuthulu Mythos based Chanukah parody song he knows)

I had a little Shoggoth
I conjured up one day
I used the Elder Sigil
So Shoggoth and I play...

Shoggoth Shoggoth Shoggoth
With mouths and pseudopods
Shoggoth Shoggoth Shoggoth
Foul creature of the gods...

One day while we were playing
My monstrous pal broke free
I dropped the Elder Sigil
Well, Shoggie turned on me...

Shoggoth Shoggoth Shoggoth
He ripped to a shred
Shoggoth Shoggoth Shoggoth
We played and now I'm dead.

Hmm.... Probably some IPod speakers/an alarm clock I can use for college.

And some under-armor for running. It is getting far too cold too fast, and I don't like it. sad

Haha, so practical. I use my cell phone and nothing else. If you're going to be practical though, might as well make it fancy.

Oooooh. Aaaahhhhh. Thanks!

What I want for Chanukah: People who'll come over and eat and compliment my cooking. Family, if possible, but they're all scattered to the winds.

Arch-enemy of Coomercialism (whose pizza burnt while reading this thread, and is so not in the best of moods (we got back onto food!)) says: I wish happiness to my family and frineds. That is the only gift I search for. cool (says the smug guy).

And yet you haven't thrown it out of a window? I'm not a big fan of Eagles. Sorry all American, patriotic, bald-eagle lovers out there!

The you chose well to begin with. Starwars Battlefront is a classic game on xbox and PS2. I have a clocked time of over 200 hours on it. But then again I have over 160 hours on Pokemon Saphire, so its not all good.

Unfortunately I can't go around just chucking things that don't belong to me out the window! smile Plus, the thing weighs close to 50 pounds and isn't anywhere near a window.

Oh and I'm terrible at Battlefront, I just love to play it. Especially assault.

And I'll agree with Divash. I love it when people compliment my food!
