"I learned that sometimes the most obvious or simplest of answers is most often correct," she commented, a gentle smile stretching across her maw. "And if that simple answer can't be found then it was always most profitable to look outside ourselves and our home to find what we're looking for. We may unknowingly find the answer to something but, like all things, it takes time for the results to show." Her tail swayed behind her as the warmth of the sun seemed to consume her body. For some reason it felt welcoming, almost like an embrace- a longing reunion of two lost friends finally reunited. Mteke couldn't explain it other than reasoning that it just felt so right. But was it strange to say that she felt whole heartedly that she belonged here- that the Simo truly was where she was meant to be. That, of all places, this was her home?
She hoped so.
As Kidondo has spoken about his home there was a part of Mteke that wanted the fire and sands of the Simo to run through her veins as well; she wanted these lands to be a part of her heart, mind and soul. To become a part of something or rather having a part in something greater, to prove her worth and put her effort towards the good of the pride- that's the life she wanted. Giving more of herself to others and sacrificing for the good of the pride; holding true to the values and continuing to fight for what the Simo stood for. Even with the simple thought of such a thing she could feel her heart flutter inside her chest, taking flight with the most wonderful and adreanline coursing sensations. Although she could hope and dream as much as she wanted to, she knew that the final decision stood with the king and queen.
"Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery," she added. "That's why they call it the present. You never quite know what the next day will bring but sooner or later you'll find your answers one way or another."
A mystery. Life was nothing but a grand mystery, wasn't it? No one could truly say what the next day would bring but it only gave a more defined reason for an individual to be keen on their paws and alert. Granted life seemed more of a mystery at times due to Mteke's trouble with amnesia the young lioness put her best paw forward as that seemed the best remedy and cure for worries and woes would never hold her down. As Kidondo spoke, Mteketezo perked her ears upward. She shook her head from side to side while quietly trying to piece the ranks together- it still seemed slightly fuzzy in some areas but that wouldn't stop her from trying to fit the piece together. Thankfully the information seemed to tie together well that it wasn't much of a struggle to recall who did what or who was over who.
She followed along silently, nodding her head as he continued and tilting her head ever so slightly to the side. "Y-Yes, I think I'm understanding it. Rather than having to live with the title of your parents an invidual could simply be best suited for something other than what their parents were suited for. I like that," Mteke smiled. "Clever."
The lioness knitted her brows slightly, following again and soaking in the given information as well as the titles and names which helped comprise the Simo. If she was found acceptable, Mteketezo'roho hoped to meet many of those whom Kidondo had spoken of. As it seemed that the many ranks and positions within the prides were winding down, Mteketezo found herself curious. So if there wasn't a king or queen then it was the Regents that seemed to fill that position? Kidondo had outlined that they were a mated pair although, unlike a king or queen, they held no authority to act or do anything without the council's consent when it came to big issues. In hearing this, Mteke found it certainly something that made the Simo stand apart from the rest. Many prides seemed to have all invested power and say within the king and queen but here, in the Simo, such a thing was far from the case.
"So since I am seeking to find acceptance within the Simo then I can assume I will be brought before the Council and Regents?" It seemed a bit nerve wracking to have to stand before either but, again, Mteke would simply have to see how it would all play out or even if it would at all.
But as she finished it seemed that Kidondo drew in a breath- finally releasing something that was pending or he was waiting for. She listened intently; No was the female Regent- a black lioness with green eyes. And she was also his mate. Easy enough to remember, right?
No, the female Regent, was Kidondo's mate. So that made them both the Regent pair who sat above the Council which-
Oh no.
Violet orbs strained slightly with an urge to widen with shock but, try as she might, the young lioness was trying hard to not make a fool of herself or to seem dense. Her ears flattened against her head as she bit her lower lip. The frame of her body seemed to tense as she swallowed, fully processing the information while her mind only highlighted the fact that of all the Simo she had talked and spoken with the Regent. Why? How- Ugh, she was starting to feel like a fool but, on the other hand, she probably would have been worse had he mentioned this before and Mteke wouldn't have been quite herself. In a way this was probably for the better, right? Not only had Kidondo had seen her but he had seen a true side of her, not some 'act' that many seem to try and persuade as a true identity when faced with one who had stature and was greatly respected by others.
Exhaling a deep breath, Mteketezo looked up towards Kidono and shook her head, a slight chuckle escaping from her maw.
"It's still an honor to meet you Kidondo and thank you for.. for taking the time to explain everything to me. I feel connected in a way although I hope that's not a crazy way to explain it."

"You have much wisdom for one so young." Kidondo smiled, and chuckled, though it wasn't meant to offend. The laugh had born from his disbelief and delight at having met her. Better yet, that such a character wished to join them. She of all the rogues so far, seemed most like the type of lion they needed. Someone brave and strong, but someone who also had strength of mind. She was more perfect than Kidondo could believe. He almost expected to wake up any moment now and find this all a dream.
But it wasn't and he felt blessed.
If she had asked, Kidondo would have told her that, given time, the desert would come to accept all those who respected her. The desert was - to Kidondo and many other Firekin - a symbol for their strengths and beliefs. The desert was a forever changing landscape - harrassed by winds and storms. They, in their wisdom, had come to accept change and now flowed easier alongside her golden beauty. She was harsh and unforgiving and she would kill if she felt it necessary. Deadly but beautiful, a natural specimen never to be trifled with. To conquer and live with her was a feat in itself. Kidondo loved the desert as he loved his kin. It was home, safety and much, much more.
"True enough." He agreed. "And not knowing what the future holds makes us fight more vehemently for it. To craft it with our own claws, to make it as we see fit. To work together to see that the lives of our children and our children's children is one free of suffering and torment."
Moving closer to the densite now, Kidondo turned his eyes to its rugged outcrop. The rock that sheltered his kin and kept them warm and comfortable in the uncomfortable cold that the desert night could bring. Without it they would all have frozen long before they could have evolved into suh a fiersome pride.
He wondered, briefly, how the traditionalists were faring without it, and whether their shelter was keeping them warm when night veiled the world in shadow.
He nodded. "Some terrible rulers became Kings and Queens because they were the sons and daughters of a ruler themselves. Such rulers have brought prides into decline and - perhaps - lead to their destruction. This way the pride is certain to always see good leaders to guide them into the future." It was a nice thought to think that his eldest could ascend to the throne. A nice thought indeed. But what would happen if his eldest was an irresponsible creature who had no interest in leading but felt it necessary because it was a birth right. No, he would not allow it to happen. His children or not, they would all have the right to see themselves up the ranks if their character and judgement was sound.
He nodded, but did not reply just yet. He wanted to wait for the news about his status to sink in first, then continue his explanation on what would happen now. His guilt did not diminish at admitting who he was, because he had fooled her throughout the conversation. And, when it seemed she understood, he waited for the shock to pass and smiled somewhat awkwardly.
"I'm glad I had the opportunity to speak with you, Mteke. I am not often so talkative, but it seems you bring out that side in me." He continued. "I'm sorry for not telling you sooner. I was concerned that you knowing my status might have you hide a part of yourself. Now I can see that you are one of us already. In heart, mind and spirit. I believe this, with all my heart, that you were meant to come here. You glow with the spirit of firekin more than most fullbloods, and that is saying something."
"Now, as for the next step, I can tell you that your membership here will be greatly considered. As of today you will be accepted as a 'part-member'. You will enter a status of quarantine during which you will proove yourself to us that you mean well. Have no worries about this, however, you have proved yourself already to me. Now all you need to do is prove it to others and you will be accepted as a full member. When the time of your quarantine comes to an end, there will be a short discussion amongst the council. This discussion will ultimately end in a yes or a no. When this discussion has taken place, you will be informed soon after."
He paused a few strides from the den.
"What do you say, Mteketezo'roho? Will you work for your place amongst us? If yes, you'll be given a den, a temporary roll of huntress and free roam of the Simo lands."
He knew she would not say no, but he held on to these words, waiting eagerly for her answer. More than anything he wanted to call her his kin. For he'd found a kindred spirit with her. He'd found a friend.

For a moment the young rogue could only smile, ears folding ever so shyly against her skull for a moment. "You're too kind," she thanked, "but I have to say the credit would go to my teacher, Ezriel. He's truly the one responsible for what I have come to know although I've no doubt that my learning will continue here." If she was given a chance to prove herself, to truly display her colors proudly as well as represent the land of fire and blood there was no doubt within her mind that her learning would increase near ten fold! The desert was a landscape that was constantly reshaped- tested by the elements themselves as well as testing the individuals who made her stretches of golden sea their home. The desert was harsh, unforgiving and would kill if she felt it necessary or, perhaps, such an unfortunate individual could not adapt to what she expected of them. But those who lived on, built a foundation of bloodlines and generations within her knew well and it was more than evident that luck had little to do with it; those within the desert were keen in heart, mind and soul.
Mteketezo wanted that. She wanted to come full circle and find that inner strength within herself and if there was ever a place where she could offer up herself and give everything it was here in the desert.
The lioness nodded. "The thought to do something does little when claws and actions speak louder than words. Sooner or later the vicious cycle of the past will change, I'm sure of it." Although she was an outsider to the culture of the Firekin, there was a feeling, perhaps a sure knowledge, that sooner or later it would get better. Mteke was an optimistic individual but with coming to know Kindondo through their conversation and his passion for his kin and pride it was evident that change would come. When? One couldn't quite say but it would happen.
As her paws seemed to fair easily upon the pact earth underfoot, the young lioness look to what seemed to be a densite. For a moment she pursed her lips, tail gently swaying behind her as her head tilted to the side ever so slightly. For a moment she was a bit confused but as he spoke she became attentive, curious and anxious to intake whatever information he could give her. Although it didn't pertain to the densite, Mteketezo'roho perked her ears upward. So this was how it all began? Kings and queens who let their offspring have a right to the throne? She couldn't help but bite down upon her lower lip. Perhaps that was where it all went wrong although she couldn't even imagine how it must have been for a pride to sudden become corrupt by its own leaders. Yet this concept of having ones character judged and found suitable for such a position was comforting- causing those who sought such a position within a pride to work and prove themselves rather than expecting a mantle of sorts to be crowed upon their heads without scrutiny.
It was clear that there were no shortcuts in the Simo.
With the shock and surprise expelled out of her body, Mteke smiled a bit broader and shook her head. "Its... it's been an honor, Kidondo. And please, there's no need for an apology- it was the best thing to do and I think I'm more at ease now." There was a relief that seemed to lift from her, a small weight that had simply disappated from her as, before, there had been a slight twinge of fear which had consisted of meeting the leader of the Simo. Before she hadn't known what to expect but, now, she felt comfortable, confident and hoped that this, the Simo, could potentially become her new home. As he continued, Mteke couldn't help but widen her violet eyes just a bit.
She? Already one of them? Her heart seemed to flutter slightly at such a compliment while she intook a breath of air, somewhat lost for words. Ezriel had sent her here for some strange reason and, now, Kidondo believed that she was meant to be here. Was this surreal or was she to wake up from this dream anytime soon? In respect, the lioness lowered her head, ears flattening slightly. Such a compliment was immense, unexpected yet she treasured it. Perhaps there was more to her- no, perhaps she truly was meant to come here. It wasn't a silly test which the strange male had ordered her to perform- she belonged here.
Mteke, herself, was starting to believe this.
"Thank you, Kidondo," there were no other words she could find to sum up her gratitude for the moment but only, if possible, a broader smile stretched across her maw warmly.
Her mind was whirling, spinning as she could feel herself on cloud nine- she was one step closer to this but, at the same time, this was not the end. Of course it wasn't, it wasn't a simple hop, skip and a jump now was it? While Kidondo spoke, Mteke nodded her head along to his words. She had already proven herself to him and all that was left to do so to the other members. She felt confident that she could do this but, at the same time, it was a bit intimidating yet somewhere inside of her she was certain she could find the strength and even the confidence to do such a thing. But even after proving herself to others it would be, ultimately, the council who decided. But whatever would happen, would happen.
Sometimes fate had a funny thing of making things happen, didn't it? She had gotten this far so certainly it could be possible to become a full member, right?
Intaking a deep breath as the offer was posed, the lioness nodded her head. "Yes- I will do whatever it takes and whatever it requires to be part of the Simo. I cannot thank you enough, Kidondo," she answered." The butterflies were fluttering faster within her stomach yet there was a newfound coursing, rushing sensation that pulsed through her veins. She would try her hardest! Although as it would that her slight amnesia could very well pose a problem, she would try her hardest not to forget but to remember. This was a new begining, a new chapter in her life and secretly Mteke only hoped that it would end abruptly nor would it reach the end.
"Thank you."
