York pulled away, pushing Cary back onto the bed. He couldn't help what he next said. "You've earned your name." He got to his feet. "I...I can't, Melissa. I have a mate, and two beautiful daughters. If D finds out that I, that I slept with you, he'll be furious." He took several deep breaths and stumbled to the door. His lust for masochism was slaked by ramming his head repeatedly against the door post. "I'm going to take a shower," he said to no one in particular, and he headed to the bathroom. He wasn't sure if he wanted to drown himself or chase off the pounding in his head that was inflamed by the wooden frame of the door. What he did know was that anything that happened to him next was richly deserved.

Cary looked up at York confused. "Robert..." she crawled to the edge of the bed. The words mate and daughters burned like a brand to her mind. "I..." she looked away and then turned as he bashed his head against the door post. "York!" she jumped up and stood in the middle of the room watching him.
She wanted to go to him. She wanted him to hold her, to make everything alright. "York, I'm..." she whispered as she watched him stalk off towards the bath. Cary hesitantly moved towards the door and watched him. "I'm sorry...." she said quietly. "York...I..." she stood there unmoving, eyes filled with tears, and suddenly very conscious he could see the scarring across her body. "York, Please! I needed you...was that so wrong!? No one else would have understood! No one else could understand what I went though!" she trailed off and clutched the frame of the door. "Am I so horrible, that you can't bare the thought of just one night with me? Do I disgust you that much? Are you one of those that gave me false pity only to snicker behind my back!?"
She trembled violently trying to contain herself. "I Don't Need Your Pity!!" she turned away and began to cry. "I thought I could trust you York...I...I thought that..." she trailed off and flicked her tail around herself and stared at the floor.

York whirled around to face her. "You're not ugly," he muttered quietly. "If you were, I probably wouldn't have done it. I was drunk, and I made a mistake." He took several deep breaths to prevent him from shouting at her. No matter how angry he was at her, he was more angry at himself. "Lissa, I understand that you needed me. I understand that you needed friendship, and protection, and some comfort. But I shouldn't have given you comfort like that. You trusted me? Well, my mate trusts me. And now I've broken my promise to him to be with him forever." He tried not to look at her body, the way she stood in the middle of the floor, forlorn, abandoned. He took a deep breath and tried again.
"Lissa, I don't snicker at you behind your back. There isn't anything to laugh at. Your life since the program has been a horror story, a warning. It's not that I give you false pity. It's just...I can't stay with you." It was hard for York to say it. He felt like a beast, sleeping with her then turning around and abandoning her. "I can't..." he whispered.
He couldn't tell her about D. That would only make her hate him more. "I don't want your hate, Lissa," he added softly. "I want your friendship, not your enmity. I don't want to never see you again, I just...don't want to sleep with someone other than my mate again."

Cary looked up at him through her bangs, twisting trying to keep her chest and belly out of site where the worst of her scarring was located. Her eyes misted over as she nodded very slowly, before looking up at him fully with a sad smile. "He is very lucky...to have you...to have your love...to know you honor what you say....most would die for a relationship like that...die...for...it..." she trailed off the madness creeping back into her eyes as they flicked around the bath room, looking hunting for something anything.
Her eyes lit up as they landed on a pair of scissors, D kept in the bath for whenever someone need to trim bangs. She lunged for them and manged to catch them up, open them and slice herself across her arm before York could stop her. A look of ecstacy crossing her face as she felt blood begin to trickled down her arm and onto the floor, the scissors falling from her limp paw as she moaned slightly in a cross between pain and pleasure. "Yes...."she said reveling in the pain, the world completely forgotten as her broken mind took comfort in the whispers and caresses of her lost AIs.

York sighed and shook his head. "I think I'm the lucky one," he muttered. "Especially when I see..." He stopped. He had been about to say "your luck," but he couldn't. Time to tell her, he decided. "Um...Melissa..." he began. "You're never going to believe it, but my mate...he's...well..." York took a deep breath. "My mate is D. My AI. We fell in love--" He stopped as he heard the sound of metal clattering on the floor. He turned in horror to see Melissa slash herself open.
With a yelp, York lunged forward. "What are you doing?!" he shouted. The shout echoed around the tiled room uncomfortably. He grabbed her arm, searching desperately for some point to grab that would cut off the circulation. "Son of a b***h, stop doing that! You'll kill yourself someday!" York stopped. Maybe that was what she wanted...a chance to kill herself. What has been done to us? he asked himself. We were ordinary people, leading ordinary lives, each of us just as sane as anyone you might meet on the street...now look at us...is calling us an experiment a real excuse for the tortures we've been through? He sighed. "Melissa...please...don't hurt yourself." He pulled her up off the floor and led her out of the bathroom.

Cary let herself be blindly led, her mind still lost among the whispers in her head. "Rho...Ayin..." she mumbled almost incoherently. Her body spasmed as her mind wandered in its own private hell. She moaned low in her throat and moved against York, smearing blood on him and looked up at him hungrily. "Give...to...me...." she muttered not making any sense. She closed her eyes and draped herself on York and remained there for several seconds before she recovered a portion of her mind.
Cary instantly broke away from York and refused to look at him. "I'm sorry..." she took several shuddering breaths. "I'm sorry, York...God I'm sorry...I can't control it...I try...but I just can't..." she wrapped her arms around her self and shook. "I'm sorry...I'll try to stop...it just...they whisper to me...and it feels...God I don't know...ever have two people make love to you in your own head? That's what they did sometimes...loved me, loved each other...God help me..." she took several deep breaths. "I should go...you should...you should go find your lover..." she whimpered slightly trying to keep from crying. I wish it were me... she thought to herself before she burst into tears as the voices berated her for having such a thought.

York tried not to cringe as Cary's blood was smeared across him. It wasn't that he didn't like blood; he just didn't like someone else's blood on him. "There, there," he said vaguely, not sure what to say. The look in her eyes frightened him as he led her to the kitchen. Did she look at me like that last night? And if I had been sober, what would I have done? he wondered. He raised her eyebrows at her words. "No, I haven't...that's hideous. Why did they do that? Didn't they respect you? I'm glad D didn't do that...but then, he was the only person in my mind. He was alone, there wasn't anyone else..." He gave Cary a hug before grabbing a roll of bandages to wrap up her arm.
"You should probably go home. Would you like me to guide you back?" he asked. "Just as a friend, of course," he added hastily. "I should find D...probably even tell him." York cringed at the idea, but he wanted to be honest and open. Might as well, as D could just go into his head and fetch the memories. D wouldn't do that...but I should tell him, he told himself. "Don't cry, Cary...I want to be your friend, just...not your lover."

Cary let herself be led to the kitchen she absently listened to York before she shrugged. "I don't know...Because they in their own twisted ways loved each other...and they loved me...they wanted me...they wanted to possess me I think..." she slowly shook her head. "I don't know...I suppose I'll never find out either..." she offered her arm to York and let him bandage it as she let her own thoughts take over.
She slowly nodded. "Yes, please..." she whispered, eyes vacant. "Just let me get my things...and we'll go..." she shuddered slightly. "Can I...come see you again?" she asked innocently. "I promise to behave...I...I just don't like to be alone..." she pleaded with him. "I promise, Robert..." she reached out slowly and cupped the side of his face with her other paw. "I'm sorry...I really am..." she said. She slowly stood up as he finished with her arm and then went back into his bedroom and pulled back on her armor. She ran a paw through her hair and picked up her helmet not bothering to put it on before coming back out. "I'm ready.." she said.

"Just a minute," York replied. He returned to the bedroom to pull on his own armor. As he did, he had to wonder at Cary's life. No wonder she was messed up...no wonder she had tried to kill herself in so many creative and painful ways...He grabbed his helmet and carried it under his arm. "I guess...you can come over again, Cary...but first..." He swallowed. "Let me explain to my mate. I don't want D getting the wrong impression. We're just friends. I'll be here for you, Cary, don't worry. I'm always here for my friends." He tried a feeble smile. "Come on, let's get you home."
