Dearest Tri-No,
While it is gratifying to see this last letter of yours seems less distressed, I still confess to some concern. I know that my admittance of such a emotion is bound to be disreguarded, after all what drow is truely interested in the well being of another? But I would greatly miss our corrospondances should something ill befall you and we could write to each other no more.
While I agree that a break from ones studies can do wonders for one'sprogress. I completely disagree with her view upon magic not being the focus of your life. She should be encouraging you to embrace and master your craft! Elsewise you'll never obtain enough power to achive whatever goals you lay before you! Honestly, sometimes I think I'd be a better teacher then that old cow.
After considering your cautious words I have choosen not to draw Talissen into this. I have no desire for him to become burdened by my own plans or designs. I am still worried about losing his interest though. He still has not accepted many of my gifts. I've sent him cloths and wines and all sorts of exotic trinkets. But he seems uninterested in anything but the most basic of things that he can use for his craft. I thought at first perhaps I was just bad at reading his preferences but now I wonder if he is doing this to vex me on purpose? I will definatly be looking into his background now, though as carefully as I can. I do not want him to know what I am about unless I decide he should know. Do you think he'd be terribly murderouse if I took steps to ensure no other male caught his attention?
Hmm. I believe I have detected a note of interest in your last letter concerning the 'expirement' I wish to run. I will have to arrange a visit to your city though my dear. It would be best if I had a bit more of a familiarity with your city before I began making plans. Perhaps once your problem has been resolved and it will be safer for me to come?
Concerning your problem, are you still dealing with it alone? have you no allies to call upon for aid in your city? I have, at the very least, Taliesin that I could possibly sway to aid me if I were in danger or trouble. Surely there is someone else you can call upon? I am happy to learn that my suggestion with the slave worked out for you...but still. I think it is the wisest course of action in order to continue your lessons. If you worry about the range simply have him open the book while you are not in the room. I doubt your assailant would risk a spell with a radius any larger then that, for they might effect someone in a hall nearby that they would not wish to. Such as a teacher? Hmm....
Tri-No...have you thought of having a teacher open one of your books? If you can manage it in a innocent manner they would be effected by the spell and then...well... I am sure they would look into it if only because it had caught them. I'd personally suggest going to a teacher with a stack of books, and asking which one would they suggest you read to learn more about a particular subject. It is my belief that most teachers would pick through the books and flip at least one open randomly to check the content. Of course, such a move is a gamble. I'd suggest that lovely teacher that all the novices got to practice on.
I look forwards to your next letter Tri-no dearest. I believe I will have more to relate to you about my staff. It is nearly completed. All I need to do is attune it to me and it shall be finished. it is something I am most proud of and hope to show it to you soon!
Fondly,
Mas D'aun Barrith
