... He defeated me.
He didn't have to touch me, he didn't even have to get near me, and solely with feelings he defeated me.
I thought I had defeated him. I thought that by defeating him, I was a Sorceror like I had always wanted. I had promised Setsushi that I would get him back home--I believed that I could. I was stupid, though.
He didn't even have to touch me. I felt his rage, his anger, his madness and I couldn't do anything but almost kill Setsushi. I feel so weak and I hate it. I am not a Sorceror, I am not a warrior, I am not even an apprentice to either.
What happened today won't happen again. I will gain power and I will become strong.
I'll die before I'm a victim again.

... THE GREAT IAI-OFF WILL BEGIN SOON.
Lynod (Vassal of Shuuken) and Setsushi (Dragon Knight under Shuuken) will be conducting an iai-off where they show their respective skills! Shuuken is looking forward to those two swordsmen showing off their skill!
... I don't have much faith Lynod will win, though. Both of them are goofy, but Setsushi has a lot of legend surrounding his deeds. He created the four-sword-style and is known for defeating numerous bandits!
... Lynod's greatest contribution thus far has been supplying fruit for the iai-off.
Poor Lynod.
Later Edit:
It was a draw! It was a glorious battle, and they fought like true men!
... Shuuken needs to devise another method where superiority can shine. A cook-off is in the works!

... Shuuken needs to change.
For too long, Shuuken has been loud and selfish, taking what he wanted when he wanted it. Whether it was in my gang, the Demon Brigade, or at home, Shuuken almost always got what he wanted.
No more. Shuuken saw the sadness in Setsushi's eyes, saw the pain that Porcelain being so domineering has caused him. It broke Shuuken's heart.
Shuuken will still be loud, Shuuken will still expression his emotions, Shuuken will still be fiery!
... But now Shuuken will also be kinder. Slower to anger. Asking permission instead of just taking.
Shuuken does not want to scar a heart as beautiful as Setsushi's.

Is Shuuken learning to become a dancer or a swordsman?
Lynod pushes one set of techniques, Setsushi another. Lynod shies away from violence because of the horrors he has seen, and the horrors within himself, while Setsushi embraces violence, not out of pleasure but necessity.
One wants to change the horrible world, even if it is a fool's dream, while another accepts how dirty the world is and adapts to it.
What will Shuuken become?
A dancer or a swordsman?
Edit sometime in December:
Shuuken will be a swordsman under Setsushi's tuteledge.
... Shuuken is sorry, Lynod.

Shuuken, growth from Child II to Youth I
Nothing intimidates Shuuken! ... Except, perhaps, a tall woman with arm muscles bigger than Tenryuu's, a body covered in scars, and an unreadable, calm expression -- not fierce, but secure in her power. This is Shoukan, a warrior who claims to fight for money, although it is unclear who her enemies might be in this peaceful Silver World.
Though she does not live richly and rents a cramped apartment in a section of the city mostly populated by Dreaming and Sleeping factory workers, Setsushi trusts she will raise Shuuken well. Indeed, from the first day, she begins carefully noting the child's strengths and weaknesses, her needs and ambitions. If Shuuken directly asks to meet the Silver Empress, she will listen as carefully as she always does, then answer with a slight tone of amusement that it will be difficult -- but perhaps not impossible someday, if Shoukan and Shuuken are clever enough.
Shuuken is in the Capital City of the Silver World; it is Sovereignity of Toutei 1004. She is staying at the apartment of Shoukan, a spear-for-hire. Though Shoukan is not wealthy and knows little of the scholarly arts and magic, there may not be a better martial arts instructor in the whole of the city. Besides, she has entered the Silver World with Jilan and Nusumu; perhaps through their contacts she could seek out other fields of study, as well.
Shuuken has two years before she is ready return to Gaia: '04-'05 (physical age 7) and '05-'06 (physical age 8.) She might choose to stay another year, '06-'07 (physical age 9,) if she wants to leave at the same time as Jilan, but this means she will have one fewer year on her important Youth I-Youth II retreat.

It is easy to excitedly speak of rushing into a situation that one does not completely understand, but to do it with the same vigor is an entirely different situation. The normally energetic and warm Shuuken is sluggish and distant when she has to say her goodbyes to Lynod and Setsushi. To be apart from for years is...
... Is intimidating. Far more intimidating than even the embodiment of a hard life that eventually stands before Shuuken. Shuuken watches her and remains silent, seeming to size up the warrior but remaining sullen for the day.
It actually takes several days for Shuuken to break out of her shell. After all, she has lost the Golden World and now even Gaia. It is for the greater good, yes, but how she misses everyone. Once she begins independently exploring the neighbors filled with the Sleeping and Dreaming children, only then does she begin to display the brash, energetic characteristics that are her trademarks. It is not long before she begins to create a branch of the Demon Brigade in the Silver World. It is through her natural leadership and brashness that she begins an arbiter of the neighbor, righting wrongs and crafting alliances amongst the neighborhood children.
Shuuken becomes quite a queen-maker.
It is then that Shuuken announces her ambitions to Shoukan, her face set in determination. Shuuken's homeland might be in danger! The Silver Empress is perhaps the only one who she can gain enough support to save the Golden World! ... Shuuken will do it alone if she must. Of course, she is surprised by the fact that Shoukan actually seems to accept her proposal.
With that attitude, Shoukan begins to grow on her pupil. Shuuken follows every lesson and step that the woman gives her, and asks her for more after that. While Shuuken eschews books, calling them boring, she is always ready for words and interactions that Shoukan will provide. Even when Shuuken is uninterested in a subject, Shoukan may eventually find that infuriating or outright challenging Shuuken can push her into a keen focus. Shuuken is around her often, but obviously is not attached at the hip--after all, Shuuken has obligations outside of Shoukan! Eventually, Shuuken begins to mimic Shuuken's actions towards her employers when dealing with the other children of the neighborhood.
In time, Shuuken takes time away from the neighborhood begins to seek out her accomplices in the salvation of her world. If their tutors interest her, she listens and attempts to imitate their actions. If they do not, she ignores their wisdom just as she would that of the tutors of Autumn-Cove. She frequently, however, develops the plan with the two as well as Shoukan and is ever-ready to take the initiative for a meeting with the Silver Empress if such an opportunity presents itself. Never is the Golden World, or her sister and its other residents, far from her thoughts--nor is Setsushi and Lynod.

Sovereignty
Shuuken finds it a little hard to find her center at first; the city is big and confusing, the local customs are similar to her homeland's but confusingly different, and many of the adults treat her dismissively. Shoukan, however, is patient and supportive, never scolding Shuuken's failings or praising her accomplishments, but simply teaching her what she needs to know.
When Shuuken is leaving the apartment one morning about a week after she's settled in, she nearly steps on a man, dressed in rags with extremely long, filthy blond hair, sleeping outside Shoukan's door. He awakens, mumbles and smiles at her, and staggers away.
Celebration
Once she's found her stride, Shuuken begins amassing a group of followers. She has soon made the local children into another band of merry men; they are dazzled by her courage and assertiveness and quickly fall under her leadership. Shoukan seems vaguely amused at all this.
The beta of the group is Hyouhaku, 6 years old, a girl who is fierce and brave but not especially intelligent or courageous herself; she idolizes Shuuken and keeps the other kids, most of whom are younger, in line.
Caesura
Shoukan gives Shuuken a very detailed tour of the significant sites of the Mid-Year Festival. As she does so, she tells Shuuken of every event at which the Silver Empress is said to be present -- though many of these are rumored only, and all of them are heavily guarded or simply inaccessible. That Shoukan has bothered to tell Shuukan indicates that she takes the child's quest seriously... or does she?
Genka wants to recruit Shuuken to his tiny, informal group of actors and musicians performing in the marketplace, along with Jilan, but Shoukan seems a little reserved about the idea...
Fruition
The strange hobo returns to Shoukan's doorstep again, though a little cleaner this time. He ambushes Shuuken as she exits and thrusts a small paper package tied with string into her hands, then wanders away, mumbling to himself. On the inside of the paper are scrawled several numbers: "12th of 4; 8th of 7; 11th of 10" Also inside are dried fruits and candies, which after a thorough inspection Shoukan determines are safe to eat.
Submission
While playing around on one of the nearby roofs, Shuuken slips and falls; she does not hurt herself seriously but aches for days. Shoukan finally does scold her for this, then instructs her on maintaining better balance.
Redress
A job (which Shuuken sees Shoukan negotiate, but never quite understands or witnesses) forces Shoukan to be away from home most of the time; she tries to make Shuuken attend a girls' school while she is away.
The school is, of course, intolerable; the teacher seems, at least to Shuuken, old and foolish, and the material is dull and useless. Nevermind the fact that it's a girls' school, and so Shuuken doesn't belong there. The younger children of her band begin to tease her about it, and her grasp on them begins to slip.
Extinction
Perhaps seeing Shuuken going through so many troubles is what motivated Shoukan to withdraw from the city and take up residence in what seems to be a small riding-lizard ranch outside the city. She will, of course, take Shuuken along, and teach her horsemanship alongside longer hours of martial arts.
Descent
The mild winter suddenly becomes much colder, and Shoukan returns to the inside of the city. It seems the kids don't remember any of the friction of Redress and immediately begin following Shuuken again.
Their playtime is limited, however, by heavy snows, which force Shuuken to spend much time inside. Jilan seems to have gotten ahold of many magical texts, though, so perhaps Shuuken would like to spend the days studying with him?
Toutei 1005
Quiescence
On the last day of Descent, Shoukan takes Shuuken to the city's Temple, telling the Princess that she is old enough to stay up meditating the whole night. Shuuken doesn't get to experience the ordeal, though; a group of unusually unfriendly priests refuse to allow them to stay as neither of them are citizens. The higher-ranked priest's condescending sneer towards Shuuken keeps her angry for many days afterwards.
Gestation
Early in the month, Setsushi arrives with a box of candies for Shuuken's birthday. ... Apparently it is hard to calculate the date from the Gaian side of the portal.
Shoukan tries to educate Shuuken again... this time, not in a school, but with a tutor, a dark-skinned northerner scholar who comes to stay with Shoukan for a few weeks. His name is Taifu; though he is primarily a physician, he is widely learned, and entertains Shuuken with fascinating tales -- this is history, geography, literature?
Parturition
Taifu leaves after taking care of some "business," but perhaps Shuuken will now be more amenable to attending a much nicer school, a bit far from Shoukan's residence, but with both boys and girls attending. Most of them are far more staid and polite than Shuuken is used to -- indeed, they make her think of miniature Setsushis -- but everyone is quite nice and the teachers are actually interesting.
Ascent
On the morning of Shuuken's birthday, she wakes up with a terrible pain in her back. It seems that there was an ornate, small, but beautiful straightsword with a fancifully decorated sheath under her mattress. Shuuken might at first think it a gift from Shoukan, but in fact the woman reacts to it with alarm, confiscating it -- as Shuuken is still too small and clumsy for a blade with a real edge, she tells her.
All Year
Most children react to Shuuken positively, and if she tries to make a friend, they will probably go along with her attempt.
Shoukan trains Shuuken in martial arts every day... But always an unarmed form. At times, Shuuken may feel that she is doing calisthenics rather than training.

Sovereignty
And Shuuken finds herself regretting her decision almost immediately. The social, fiery Shuuken feels alone and dismissed in this new world, feelings that drive her first to anger and then depression. While she slowly learns the customs due to Shoukan, she finds her first days filled with home sickness. She quickly attaches herself to the woman, finding her (aside from Jilan and Nusumu) to be the anchor that keeps her from being washed away.
As for the blond, well, he certainly is interesting. In her first weeks, however, Shuuken has no time for hobos and their antics. Instead, she slowly begins to devote herself to why she originally came to the Silver World: the salvation of the Golden World.
Celebration
And Shuuken once more becomes a Bandit King. Shuuken branches out from Shoukan as the world, once more, seems to gain some sense of normalcy. The princess finds herself leading the children in a variety of events that range from mock wars to expeditions to the haunted parts of the neighborhood. She also acts as an arbiter among the children, delivering swift but fair justice to all those under her control!
As for Hyouhaku, Shuuken senses a great deal of potential in the girl. While Hyouhaku may lack certain important qualities, Shuuken attempts to train her to be strong, courageous, and caring. While she can keep the others in line, she also demands compassion of her subordinate; after all, a Bandit King must be magnanimous.
Caesura
And the gears in Shuuken's mind begin to turn as Shoukan reveals that information. Of course, the information is vague at best and helps Shuuken little. Still, it is a lead to solving the problems of the Golden World. Shuuken, obviously, would press for more information, demanding to know everything Shoukan knows of the Silver Empress. Any small fact, after all, could help!
After pestering Shoukan for days on end, Genka's request would arrive. Shuuken, though on a quest for Righteous Justice, does take the time to become an actor. After all, acting is basically socially accepted lying, right? And Shuuken is an excellent liar.
She also plots with her compatriots, Nusumu and Jilan, about the liberation of the Golden World. While they are unable to come to any long-term conclusions, they decide on pestering Jin for access to the Silver Empress. Shuuken's faith in the pair who accompanied her to the strange Silver World is strengthened.
Fruition
... And Shuuken is surprised to see the hobo once again. Apparently his mangy adventures have led him into a bath as well. As he thrusts the package and walks away, she's left blinking, confused, and curious. The princess, before even inspecting the box, pursues the wanderer...
... but he proves far too quick and disappears using his natural hobo agility and navigation. Shuuken is left with the candy, a full stomach, and a curious mind after her second sighting of the man.
Submission
And if she hurts, she most certainly doesn't allow Shoukan to know about it. After all, Shoukan will only nag her further about her foolhardy movements. ... Of course, Shoukan then does something infinitely more interesting than nagging: she teaches Shuuken better balance.
Shuuken's impression of the woman grows by the day.
Redress
And as her stay at the school lengthens and her grip on the children weakens, Shuuken finds her patience beginning to grow thin. At every moment she can, she makes her displeasure known at the school through attempted coups that earn her the ire of teachers throughout the Silver World! She also moves to quash the rebellions that the children attempt, moving to rebuild her empire.
Extinction
And these days are some of Shuuken's happiest. While she misses the city and her band of not-so-merry men, she finds the lizards and martial arts to be of great interest. When Shuuken is not riding and taming lizards, she is practices holds and strikes. When she isn't practicing kicks and throws, she's launching campaigns and conquests with the lizards.
Shuuken really does need a cavalry.
Descent
And that is when Shuuken clasps them in her old once more. Being the magnanimous ruler that she is, she allows all back into her fold; of course, her kindness might be also due to her equally short attention span.
Shuuken makes the most of the vicious snows. She finds herself spending more of her days with Jilan, speaking of the future and helping him grow in magical prowess. After all, Jilan will be more useful to Shuuken if he learns about magic!
... Of course, Shuuken is also fond of Jilan so that pushes her to help him train as well.
Toutei 1005
Quiescence
And Shuuken feels the rage right at the temple. She marches up to the Temple and tells the priests exactly what she thinks of themselves, their beliefs, and their mothers. Shoukan might actually have to prevent the princess from going too far--after all, she's not used to be denied rights quite so openly.
The fact she was dreading meditation is no excuse for their behavior!
Gestation
And Shuuken devours them, along with Setsushi's presence and his stories of Gaia. While he is there, she regales him with feats of martial ability in addition to her pursuit of the elusive of the Silver Empress. She also demands that Lynod appear, which he does later in the month (with more candy at that).
After the visits, Shuuken finds herself engaging in education yet again. While she is displeased, she quickly finds that the northerner wins over her heart. She readily eats up his tales of foreign lands, customs, and conquerors. When he is ready to go, she finds herself mournfully parting with him.
... She hopes she will meet Taifu again.
Parturition
While the teachers are interesting and the students are fun, she finds herself missing Taifu; his skills blew all of those teachers out of the water! ... She quickly forgets her spiteful disdain of the teachers, however, and makes many friends will maintaining those she came with (namely Nusumu and Jilan).
Ascent
Shuuken is filled with wonder upon finding the blade and moral outrage upon having it taken away from her. She protests, growls, argues, and attempts to steal it back. All of her attempts, for the present, are thwarted by the cunning Shoukan.
In that month, Shuuken also meets the man that, perhaps, is the most influential figure ever in her life. In the short space of a day, she finds herself pitying, loving, hating, and respecting the hobo that has appeared in her life. After their meeting, she sheds the makeup that adorned her for 9 years and begins to look more into Chaos.
She finds herself awaiting, anticipating, the fateful day when she will meet the Sorceror yet again.

Toutei 1005SovereigntyShuuken suddenly starts growing much more quickly than usual, making her feel strange and uncoordinated. While at first her band is awed by Shuuken's new height, after Hyouhaku disdainfully notes that Shuuken is starting to look like a lady now, they begin growing gradually less eager to follow her. CelebrationSomehow, Shuuken's schoolwork seems to be getting easier and easier. Better teaching methods? Brain development? A very handsome male teacher explaining geometry to the class? Who knows. While her studies are getting easier and she has newer, more mature friends to socialize with if she does not feel like going on expeditions with her gang, Shuuken does develop an unpleasant new condition -- her legs ache terribly at night, particularly on hot nights. Shoukan teaches her some stretches, which seem to help a little, but the pain persists. CaesuraJilan's host family brings a new baby into the world! Shuuken may be interested in meeting the creature in first, but if she does indeed go to meet her, she will find Genkyou to be a dirty, noisy, demanding little monster. But if she relates these observations to Shoukan, she'll laugh. Shoukan tells Shuuken that there's no greater pleasure for a woman than to bring a child into the world. She had one, with Taifu. ... What, didn't Shuuken know? Huh, Shoukan guesses she never did tell Shuuken about her daughter Fuji... FruitionIf Shuuken thought her leg pains were a bother, then she'll be absolutely horrified to find herself bleeding!!!According to Shoukan, this means Shuuken is becoming a woman, and it's a cause for celebration; of course, the aspiring Sorcerer may not take it this way. At the end of the month, she meets the miserable wretch who fortold this misfortune -- though considering the circumstances, she may decide not to enact revenge on him right away. SubmissionContrary to Shoukan's predictions, the blood does not return this month. Hah! This proves it was all a freak accident, and Shuuken is still sure to become a man. One particular student at the school, a seven-year-old girl named Ari, who for her age is already quite shrewd and witty, makes an effort at befriending Shuuken. RedressAs Shoukan tries to coax Shuuken to embrace her womanhood and change to a girl's school, using such arguments as -- being a woman does not mean one has to be a boring courtier, as Shoukan's warrior lifestyle attests -- tensions may increase. To make things worse, Hyouhaku, once so easily controlled, attempts to usurp the band of thieves. Whether Shuuken puts down this coup or not, the members will probably grow disillusioned with their leadership and desert both Shuuken and Hyouhaku. ExtinctionPerhaps it is Shuuken's changing height and figure that prompts a shopkeeper to address her as "Madame." If she doesn't do something about this soon, more people will start mistaking her for a lady... DescentPerhaps as part of her ongoing schemes, Shoukan once again takes Shuuken to the ranch, where she hopes spending time caring for baby lizards will trigger feminine feelings in Shuuken's breast. Of course, Shuuken is probably just going to take this opportunity to run around like a rambunctious boy. Toutei 1006QuiescenceShuuken catches a cold, which wouldn't normally be such a bother, but it falls in the same week as her menses, and Shuuken feels serious pain and discomfort for the first time, to an extent that she can hardly walk, never mind going to school. This seems to coincide with -- or perhaps provoke -- something of a change of heart in Shoukan, who decides to stop pressuring and lecturing Shuuken. She nurses Shuuken through this horrible episode, then stands back from Shuuken's life, letting her make decisions about her activities and dress, even if they go against the image of strong femininity Shoukan had previously been pushing Shuuken towards. GestationThe students at the school write little essays to practice their compositional skills -- a common enough assignment which Shuuken has completed several times before. This time is special, though, because Shuuken's lovely teacher, Renka, praises her after class for her very well-written response. ParturitionOn the day of the Red Festival, Shuuken receives a deluge of anonymously-sent love letters and flowers. Though this may upset her, as letters are usually sent to girls, the flowers are a mix of those traditionally sent to girls and those traditionally sent to boys. AscentOne evening, looking over the glowing report-letters sent from school and watching Shuuken gracefully stretching, Shoukan remarks that Shuuken is truly blossoming (into a man? woman? she does not specify) and perhaps should go home for a time, to show off her astonishing growth to her loved ones. All YearShuuken grows gradually less popular with younger children, who begin to see her as more of an adult than one of them. The flip side of this change is that older children as well as adults seem more eager to hear what Shuuken has to say and less dismissing of her feelings and demands desires.

Asahi Kumoru Lynod And a knock comes on Jilan's door in the early, burning days of Fruition. Outside of the door, unbeknownst to the poor Porcelain, stands an enraged Shuuken. While he might not know the bearer of the negative emotions that ram themselves through the door, he'd know the emotions are aimed at him. Perhaps it's not so safe to open the door at first. . . Asahi Kumoru From within the room comes the sound of several books hitting the floor, at least one of them certainly hardcover. ... Angry at him? He has done almost nothing but go to the library and read this month, and he thought all of his chores were taken care of for today! He thought Kinkyou was at work, and Genka had carted off the little baby to go shopping again not five minutes before. Jilan anxiously projects that he will be there in a moment, and sure enough, after several seconds of shuffling papers and books, the little scholar opens the door a crack to peek out.
... and gives off a feeling of nervous surprise when he sees that it is Shuuken. Uh, hello. Something is wrong? sweatdrop Lynod And Shuuken's foot immediately slams into the door, giving enough force to possibly send the scholar stumbling backwards. Fluidly Shuuken moves into the room, her hand moving to grab at his collar as she clenches a fist, apparently prepared to strike him. Shuuken met Jin. Shuuken saw Jin attempt to kill someone she knew. Jilan has five seconds to explain himself before Shuuken kills a traitor. "Five," says Shuuken, clearly as a bell as fury burns in her eyes and whips around her form. Asahi Kumoru The boy had been a bit off-balance already, slightly favoring the foot that had just caught most of the books he had just dropped; when the Princess shoves at the door, Jilan nearly goes flying. Fortunately or unfortunately, his bottom is saved from bruising against the floor when Shuuken grabs his collar. With a yelp of surprise, the boy throws his hands up in defense, and then has to grab his glasses as they nearly slip from his face. His eyes wide behind the now-crooked frames, he hastily tries to fix them as his reply comes out in a fearful and bewildered jumble: Wh- what on earth is Shuuken talking about!? Jin!? Where? When!? Doing what?? He gives a weak nervous laugh as he adds that she might have been seeing things - Jilan does not believe that Jin would do such a thing. Can Princess explain better? Lynod "Four," says Shuuken as her hand begins to rise from her side, her face twisted in absolute anger. Jilan's time is almost up. Perhaps he should start explaing himself and his involvement with Jin. Shuuken gives the scholar a shake with the collar as she grits her teeth, her body beginning to tremble with the anger that she feels. It's obvious that she's not joking, that she's not in any mood to be reasoned with at this point. Asahi Kumoru Jilan struggles against her, now more genuinely afraid than confused. He grasps her wrist in both hands, giving up on his glasses for the moment and then not much seeming to care as they fall to the floor.
He- he has heard n-n-nothing from Jin! T-trying to c-contact hir! Like they p-p-planned! What happened!? J-jin was a t-tutor and f-f-friend! Gave J-j-jilan all he needed, and th-then some! Asked n-n-nothing r-really in return. M-maybe some zither music at Mid-Year F-f-festival. J-j-jin... M-mysterious b-but not v-v-violent! Jilan s-s-swears it!
... St-stop s-shaking, h-hard to th-think, the little scholar weakly insists, trying again to twist out of her grasp or push her away. Lynod And how many Jins does Jilan know? How many Jins exist that can be taken as a man or woman? How many Jins have direct access to the Silver Empress?! Shuuken shakes Jilan again before releasing him and turning away, her fist slamming into a wall. Anger continues to roll off of Shuuken as she stares at the ground, the princess increasingly looking more like a prince. ... Shuuken just wants to know if Jilan has betrayed her. Shuuken came to the Silver World, her entire trust invested in him. Did he set her up? Did he plan for this to fail entirely from the start? Shuuken cranes her neck, staring at Jilan now as the burning anger in her eyes is replaced by a damp sadness. Did Jilan betray Shuuken? Asahi Kumoru Tears appear in the boy's eyes as he is shaken, and he immediately drops to his knees on the floor when Shuuken lets him go. Jilan fumbles for his glasses, but sets them up on his desk with a trembling hand rather than putting them back on. He is silent for a long moment except for a quiet sob or two as he calms down, though he still gives off a distinct feeling of upset. At the mention of betrayal, however....
Jilan gets to his feet again, clenching his fists as he mentally shoves back with anger of his own. Betrayed Princess Shuuken? For what reason? What brings the Princess to such a conclusion? He bites his bottom lip in frustration, half-turning away from her as he slams a fist down on one of the piles of books on his desk.
She has seen only a fraction of the reading he has done! He is in the Silver World to learn! Jilan thought the Princess knew that! The little scholar thought he told her that he wished to better himself so he could help her, to answer her call! And Princess Shuuken comes to him now, out of the blue, speaking of his betrayal!?
His red eyes narrow for a moment - or did she just want someone to blame when things did not go her way?
... When Shuuken looks at him again, however, with that sadness in her eyes, the anger leaves Jilan, and he promptly expresses regret for his harshness.
He hesitates a moment, perhaps surprised with himself, then asks again more calmly if Princess Shuuken can tell him what happened, what she saw? And what, if anything, led her to think that this little Jilan was somehow responsible for the actions of Jin? Lynod ... Shuuken held Jin has some high hope, something that would save them, allow them to save the Golden World. Jilan spoke of Jin, of hir connections, of hir generosity, and Shuuken held on to those hopes. Jilan thought greatly of Jin, Jilan was friends with Jin. ... Shuuken saw Jin yesterday. Rather than being great, Jin was fearsome. Rather than being kind, Jin was cold and callous. Shuuken was watching Jin attempt to kill someone, someone Shuuken cares about and would die for. Shuuken pauses, her eyes clouding with confusion and regret. ... Shuuken was afraid and furious. Shuuken was afraid that Jilan's sincerity was manufactured, that his intentions were merely a facade for some darker plans. Shuuken--Shuuken was confused, and angry, and hurt. The princess turns her eyes to Jilan before she turns her back to him, her hand moving to cover her bare face. Shuuken has so few now, and the idea that Jilan was an ally of that monster... Asahi Kumoru Jilan's confusion returns - how did Shuuken know it was Jin? The little scholar admits that his previous tutor had always been a mystery to him, but he still has difficulty believing that the lazy minstrel could be as violent as the Princess describes. He supposes it is possible....
-Wait, who is Princess Shuuken's friend, the one Jin was trying to kill? Jin works closely with the Silver Empress. Is it possible that Jin was enacting justice, and that this friend is an enemy of the Silver Empress? If Princess desires her help, then it might not be such a good idea to befriend her enemies.
The boy is unable to keep the suspicion and hurt from his projections as he asks again, who is this friend she describes as someone she would die for? Who can apparently bring Princess to suspect Jilan a traitor so quickly, after he has left Gaia to come to the Silver World with her, worked for the last year, to help her? Does this mean Princess no longer desires the help of the little scholar? Lynod Gan did not tell Shuuken to suspect Jilan! Her body twists as she glares at her peer, anger again beginning to bubble to the surface. And if Gan is an enemy of the Silver Empress, of Jin, then Shuuken will wholeheartedly move against the Silver Empress! Gan has promised to help her avenge the Golden World, has told her that a Silver Dragon has attacked it! Shuuken pauses, her eyes softening as she looks away from Jilan again. ... Gan told Shuuken there was no way to save the Golden World; vengeance is only left. Shuuken opens her mouth before pausing and shaking her head faintly, sorrow mixing with the anger that has so frequently come from both Porcelain. "... I was keeping silent about it because I clinged to hope," says Shuuken faintly, "But it seems those wishes were foolish." Asahi Kumoru No way at all to save the Golden World? Jilan does not feel as upset about this as he thinks he should, and this makes him angry again, this time at himself. With a harsh sigh, he shoves a pile of books off of his desk and onto his bed, then sits down on the edge of it, crossing his arms.
Nothing they can do? All of these books, and they cannot do anything to save a place Jilan has never seen? He rests his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands, and sighs again.
"So what am I supposed to do now?" Jilan still wishes to help, because he had promised to do so, but... he cannot find any desire for vengeance. He never knew the Golden World, does not know it like the Princess does, has no friends or family or relatives there. He was able to give up his time gladly to study, make treks to Jin's apartment to seek hir counsel, but Jilan is not sure he can follow Princess Shuuken down a path of vengeance. ... Does that make him a terrible Porcelain?
... And is there any chance at all that this Gan might be wrong? Lynod Shuuken pauses, seeming to consider Jilan's words... before shaking her head gingerly. No person in their right mind would trust Gan, but Shuuken does. He is both a wiseman and madman, a force of nature and a pitiful child. Though he has his madness, Shuuken believes him--he is a Sorcerer without parallel. He has promised to guide Shuuken down the path of Chaos, forsaking Name. Shuuken's hand moves to one of her makeupless cheeks as she looks to the ground. Jilan is not awful, Shuuken assures him of that. Shuuken would not want Jilan to follow her upon such terrible things. Saving a world is righteous, noble... ... But gaining vengeance for it? A weak smile crosses Shuuken's lips as she begins to move towards the door. Shuuken apologizes for her outburst. Asahi Kumoru Raising his head to look at her again, Jilan is silent for a long moment. The little scholar's studies of Porcelain magic theory had, if nothing else, informed him of the dangers and uncertainties of Chaos, and that is why he focuses more for now on learning what he can about the Name. On top of that, this Sorcerer Gan is apparently an enemy of Jin; the boy cannot deny that this still troubles him. And so Shuuken's words frighten him, but...
He also thinks of what his Gaian father has told him, about the other human wizards who had thrown him out of their ranks because they deemed what he chose to study to be too dangerous. They were afraid of Kumoru as Jilan now worries for Shuuken. But he does not consider it his place to judge her and the paths she freely selects for herself. The boy cannot tell her she is wrong just because he would have done differently himself.
Jilan stands and walks up close to her, hesitantly reaching out for her shoulder with one hand. He probably sounds silly, because he is a strange, foolish Porcelain who knows nothing of the Golden World, apparently his people's rightful homeland, but....
"Um. ...Good luck. And be careful." Lynod And at the touch of Jilan's hand on Shuuken's shoulder, the Sorcerer-to-be pauses. Shuuken glances over her shoulder, watching Jilan before she shakes her head faintly. Shuuken should have known that Jilan would not betray her. Shuuken was... afraid, though. Afraid that she had found such a great ally only for him to be against her. The idea of Jilan being her enemy hurt Shuuken, enraged her. Shuuken turns then, shrugging off Jilan's shoulder and doing something uncommonly forward even for her. The princess hugs the scholar. Shuuken is sorry. Asahi Kumoru Jilan would never want to be Shuuken's enemy. A few minutes ago, he was terrified she was going to break his nose. The boy has no desire to have to worry about something like that again sweatdrop
Really, though, Shuuken probably knows better than Jilan what to do about the Golden World. So... whatever she thinks is right. The little scholar assures her that he will not interfere. And, uh, if he might still be able to help, he supposes he can try.
--And he was going to say something else but then Shuuken hugs him and he kind of forgets a little bit. He uh... will still see her sometimes, though, uh, right? Lynod Shuuken laughs before pulling back, her hands gripping Jilan's shoulders. Vengeance is tiring work! Shuuken will obviously have to take breaks from it to meet her valuable comrades. A grin works itself along Shuuken's lips as she squeezes his shoulders. How could Shuuken ever leave Jilan behind? One might as well tell a bird to stop flying! She snorts before folding her arms. Asahi Kumoru A small smile tugs at the corner of the boy's mouth, and he nods in reply. His cheeks are similarly unpainted - he was just planning to sit in the library all day today, so he saw no need to get all dolled up - but are also touched with a bit of red as he blushes without realizing it. Jilan will look forward to seeing her, then.
Oh, and Shuuken only need apologize to him if she fails to become the best Princess-Sorcerer ever. He will keep studying his magic, too.
