Colton huffed from the shadows of the bushes and was alarmed to see the motorcycle. He spent the several minutes that Amara and Maxwell were interacting to try and figure out how to follow them. Well, he could always just give up and go back inside... But, no, his puppy instincts told him. He was a retriever - a golden retriever - and he would bring back Amara safe and sound to her parents. It was the fatherly thing to do.

So when Maxwell and Amara sped off on the bike, he jogged after them with his nose to the air. What else was it for, right? And it wouldn't be too hard to sniff out a spiraffe and a jaguar.

"No worries sweetheart," he said carelessly, and curled his tail around her delicate waist to ensure her safety. He was right - soon enough, they arrived at the gates of a homely amusement park.

He skidded swiftly to a halt and put a foot down to stabilise the Harley. "Off you go, luv. I've got to wheel it into the bushes so no one steals it." He smiled at her wryly, releasing her from his tail's grasp.

Safety, just safety! That's why his tail was there. That, or it was because her slight body was in the way. Her own tail flicked beneath the billowing skirt, quiet for the remainder of the ride.

Amara blinked as the ride ended, pressing her dainty hands to Maxwell's shoulders to dismount from the machine (balancing on a single hoof was not the easiest!). Unbuckling the helmet and removing it with a shake of her curly hair, she handed back to the jaguar, all pleased smiles and flushed cheeks. "I'll be here!"

Lilith watched as the two sped off. She knew that they were headed to the amusement park that was only a few miles down the road, but still it seemed to her as if they were crossing the Pacific Ocean for a quick bite to it.

She sat down on the front steps and watched Colton run awkwardly after the bike, tail wagging in anticipation of the chase.

What was she to do? She wanted to protect Arama, rip Maxwell's throat out and kiss him all at the same time. Her head was a mess and creating a nasty buzz of a migraine. She would just have to wait.

He disappeared into the conveniently placed bushes bordering the gates, simultaneously disappearing the Harley in valiant hopes of material safety. There was quite a bit of shuffling and a few leaves here and there. As he stepped out of the bushes again, he gracefully brushed a few twigs off his shoulders. "I'm not one for foresight," he admitted, sheepishly (playfully) chuckling and flicking his ear in an attempt to remove a small leaf off his fringe. "But I'm fairly sure I've brought enough cash."

A very nondescript minivan that apparently no one had noticed pulled over to the shoulder of the road Colton was jogging on--albeit fifty or so feet in front of him, tires squealing in protest of the sudden stop. A kitty woman's head poked out of the passenger side window, and a waving head soon joined it. "Colt! Get in the car," she said, with a wide grin on her face. Spotting Lilith's telltale feathry-ness seated on the steps of Hytech, she pitched her voice louder. "Lilith! You want to come along?"

The outside of the minivan may have been nondescript, but the inside was anything but. Seats had been removed and replaced with comfortable bean bag chairs, the inner frame of the van obscured by computer screens and various monitoring equipment. Though with a lower head-to-floor ratio than the typical spy van, this one was family-stealthed and perfect for infiltrating such locations as malls, beaches, and amusement parks.

Shimy hadn't been amused when she'd discovered Philomena had gutted and "improved" the family van, but she had been persuaded that it was a good thing, and 'Mena had promised to take Shimy to spy on whatever ended up being Eli's first date.

Had Eli known, he probably would not have been amused either, but Eli was blissfully unaware of his grandmother and mother's machinations, as usual.

The teen laughed, shaking her curly head. "We could just walk around and I'd be just as happy," Amara gently chided the jaguar, using her dainty hands to help brush off the leaves (her hands were slightly more suited for such things). "We have a good time just talking. Imagine the trouble we can get into being out and about!" Her voice was cheery, only partially in jest; no doubt Maxwell had plenty up his sleeves to delight her with.

Plucking another leaf out of his windblown hair, she smiled warmly, "I can help." She didn't bother to elaborate that it was money in case something happened and she was left alone (really, her parents were so funny!); it would be much better spent on having a good time.

"I wouldn't be much of a gentleman if I weren't able to satiate such sweetness with sweets, yes?" He purred as her hands swept past his hair gently, placing a paw on her hip. "The fair is full of delights for lovely little ladies such as you." A subtle movement allowed him to rub his head against her pretty fingers, and he stepped forward to shift the paw to the other side.

"Come dear," he roguishly tugged her along by her waist. "Let's take in the sights and see what you would like to do."

Amara would have scoffed at such implications, but that wouldn't be very lady-like either. Granted, the Spiraffe was but a teen and could act accordingly, but what fun was that under the eye of such a dignified companion? He'd been kind enough to offer her a garment, a ride and the means to spoil; she could at least be mature about their day.

She smiled shyly at the gentle motion, giving a small squeak of surprise at the paw on her waist. It wasn't to dissuade, however, as she wrapped her own slender arm around his waist in return. It was better to walk fluidly as such than to bump awkwardly against him. "All right," she conceded with a demure flick of her ears, "if you insist. Thank you, Maxwell."

The teen allowed herself to be lead towards the grounds, more pleased with the jaguar at her side than the destination. She counted herself lucky to have befriended such a gentlemanly Hyte.

He was quite pleased at her returned motion, though made increasingly aware of her height - she hovered just a bit over his shoulders, and she was certainly going to get taller.

"I do apologise if I'm too condescending," he murmured as they strolled. "You're such a sweetheart that I feel the urge to be protective, but I'm sure you must find that annoying at times, yes? I remember that little defiant rise of your head..." He chuckled at the memory. "...so I really shouldn't be too parental. Else what would be the fun of going out with me?"

Lilith watched as a van squealed to a halt in front of Colton. 'Mena stuck her out the window. With an invitation to jump in, Lilith quickly grabbed her belongings puddle at her feet and ran to the van.

Opening the side of the vehicle, she was quickly taken aback by all the gadgets and gizmos in the cabin. She pushed herself in and tried to find a comfortable place to sit.

'What are we planning to do? I don't want Maxwell to hate me...'

He had huffed and puffed and nearly blown his own lungs out, when - by some miracle that only the Gods and Goddesses of HyTech knew - Mena pulled up with a van. He was surprised to spot Lilith, but didn't give it any more thought as the female got in. The puppy Hyte jumped (more like stumbled) into the vehicle and closed the door behind him, still panting and clutching at his side.

It only took him a moment to realize that this was no ordinary Shimey van; no, this was all Mena's work, clearly. Colton gazed wide-eyed at the screens and comfy seats. It was like technology heaven, though he had no idea what the difference of the shiny red dial was from the dark blue twisty thing. Colton almost reached for one of them to test it out, but then reconsidered; knowing Mena, she'd probably installed a self-destruct button somewhere in the van in case it "fell into the wrong hands" or something like that.

He moved to settle into one of the seats and hunkered down, folding paws over his stomach. He smiled thankfully to the cat Hyte and turned back to Lilith. "We're only going to spy on them, that's all. Nothing too serious. Besides, I've got to get a report back to Isoke and Gyasi."

"Colt's right, this is strictly a surveillance mission. Unless, you know, something actually happens..." 'Mena said, with a shrug, suggesting she doubted anything would, but enough of a tenor of suspicion remained that also suggested she was prepared for any outcome.

She was amused at the others' reaction, especially Colt's tentative reach for a button and then immediate pulling back of his paw--she knew what he was thinking. However, she was also smart enough to put the self-destruct button up front where hapless passengers wouldn't touch it.

"I can maybe get into the park's security cameras, but I also think we should send one of us in as a mole--hat with camera and microphone bugs and whatnot,"
she added pragmatically as she pulled the van back onto the road. "Also, it is the nearby amusement park, right? Not one further?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:55 am

"I'm opting out for mole" Lilith piped up. I may do things I will regret later.

She eyed the rest of the van nervously, afraid to accidentally touch something and buckled her seat belt. She was ready, but just for what she wasn't sure. Could her heart handle the rejection at seeing Amara and Maxwell looking happy together?

The Spiraffe shook her head, smiling. She had partially expected something like this, what with the saying 'if it's too good to be true...' "I don't mind, Maxwell," she replied kindly, "I'm used to it." Amara had been reclusive as a child, as she supposed she was often treated as one to make up for the lost time.

She squeezes the jaguar in her grasp, giving a short bit of startled laughter. "What would be the fun? Oh Maxwell, now I know you're teasing." The femme giggled quietly, looking at her dark counterpart beneath her heavy lashes. "It's fun just to see you; going out will be an experience."
