Stargarden silently compared the Nettle that appeared in front of him now to the one he meet with the small child. His posture was worse, his speech was less adequate and filled with more silence. Perhaps he seen a crocodile? Maybe Bites For Fun was around after all!

He looked around casually, disappointed not to find any sign of his friend. His gaze softly went back to Nettle.

"Is it not?"

"I usually stick to more...conventional food and drink." Nettle's eyes strayed, just for a moment, off in the direction Stargarden had looked -- in search of whatever he'd been hunting for. Other kimeti? something about that thought made his shoulders tense, snapped him back into his skin, at least.

"Nettle is most certainly a dangerous food." And that was an entertaining metaphor, taken out of context.

Stargarden shook his head, casually lifting his shoulders lightly while taking soft steps forward and then back again. His eyes softly looked at Nettle and then back around the swamp, was he not conventional?

"I would quest a taste," he said, his eyes wandering carefully. "What makes it dangerous? It seems fine."

Once again he was flustered, what little poise he'd regained now lost. Was Stargarden being cute? Was he joking? Was he teasing? Was he suggesting? Whatever it was, Nettle cleared his throat, a rough sort of 'harumph', and answered as if it were a perfectly normal question.

He was only gaping a little. And was only a little embarrassed.

"Well, it stings. Nettle. Have you ever stepped in a patch?"

It was certainly good Nettle had answered it like a perfectly normal question because to Stargarden it was very normal. "Maybe, I travel a lot," he said almost mindlessly as he gazed at Nettle. "But I have not had a taste."

Stargarden looked around the swamp underbrush in the area and then back to Nettle. "Show me some?"

"...are you crazy?" Even more himself, now. Nettle pawed the ground, halfway rolling his eyes as he considered Stargarden in front of him. And, thinking about it...well, it seemed plausible. The Kimeti certainly wasn't altogether normal. In fact, he didn't even approach normal.

"It stings. It hurts! Big welts!" He shook his head roughly, an expressive gesture. "And they'd be on your tongue in this case!

"Are YOU crazy?" Stargarden seemed to snicker at him, tossing his head to the side and then sighing. "Have you ever tried any?" He asked, pausing softly for a moment. "How do I know how it'll sting, how much it'll hurt or the size of the welts that may occur on my tongue. I do not wish to go through life not experiencing for my own, do you?"

"There is a difference between experiencing and being an idiot." Nettle was fully himself again -- enough that he could look down his nose at Stargarden, snickering or no. Yes, let him snicker; after all, Nettle is the king of his kingdom, the lord of this patch of swamp. In his head, at least.

"I don't have to be stung by a bee to know that it hurts. I don't have to jump off a cliff, or beat my head against a tree to be wise enough not to do it." Just a little shake of his head, halfway mocking. "I don't tempt bad things to happen."

Stargarden watched as Nettle appeared to him in himself as he once with the kimeti before him.

"So if you're wise enough not to do things that hurt then what about love? Is it better not to, where heartbreak is around the bend. You know that hurts. You've been told countless times by the weary. Should you not do it?" He said, in slightly less soft tone than his usual before returning to say, "An idiot in love... no experience in said field? Nothing to gain from the attempt. No wisdom of your own."

"It is all, he said she said."

Stargarden had slowly been approaching Nettle and finally he was back up in his face looking at his nose.

"Maybe that cliff leads to an unventured oasis, or hitting that tree allows you to find a hidden treasure inside a weak patch of bark."

The whole situation made Nettle's ears flatten, made his expression go darker and frustrated, brow all wrinkled and hackles raised. He took a step back away from Stargarden like he was affronted -- or afraid, perhaps, underneath it.

"...far more likely you'll fall and break your neck."

Stargarden seemed to look deep into Nettle. "If you say so," he said, agreeing, almost readily after Nettle had spoken.

"You could also just as well trip over a root and break your neck, but at least if you were to jump off a cliff it would be your choice and not because you're a clumsy, grumpy, and old kimeti who lived his life in a manner less fitting than a tree," he paused, glancing to the side at the trees. "No offense."

And then he smiled at Nettle, softly, before glancing his eyes over to a crocodile that was squirming around in the distance. It paid no heed to the two kimeti, didn't even notice as they stood off in the distance on his blind side. It was his friend, Bites For Fun, indeed! It was time to go again, the day was getting late and he wouldn't wait forever.

"My friend is here."

Stargarden then side-stepped away from Nettle, softly whispering near his ear, "Until our paths cross again, adieu," and then walked away, following the carnivorous creature as if it were a daily act for him... and in fact, it was.

After many years in the company of Nettle, maybe someday Stargarden will realize just how outer worldly following a crocodile really was.

-- well, really. Nettle was too stunned even to be affronted. The Kimeti was just too...weird, he really was. So he stared after Stargarden, incredulous and kind of lost, until he'd disappeared.
