Imriel stared for a long time at Zayn's hand on hers. It was warm, and she was sure her skin must feel cold and clammy... her last experiment had taken so much out of her.
"Thank you," she said finally, her voice just a little flat as she tried to stabilize her emotions. She lifted her hand then, just a little too hastily to be polite. She had ached for contact with her own kind for so long.. but for some reason, now that she had it, it made her feel.. uncomfortable.
"I would.. deeply appreciate the help," she went on, folding her hands in her lap and not looking at either of them. "Like I said.. I've hit a wall. The methods that worked before are no longer effective." Her voice steadied as her mind fell into familiar patterns. It was always easier to talk about her findings and experiments if she separated herself from her irritatingly erratic emotions.
"I've theorized that it must have some sort of connection to the kyunru Pantheon. It was.. either Ahnema or Neru, I'm not sure on this, there isn't much written history on it.. who originally designed and wrote the runes for the summoning relics that we three were reincarnated from. It seems as though their powers have left Gaia." Imriel's speech became flat and automatic as she explained. "It might also be possible that Valesti's attack all those years ago somehow disrupted the gods' powers so that the lines of energies they previously followed no longer run the same course. I don't know.. I haven't been able to contact the gods. My last discussion with Ullue was stinted and she seemed distressed about something. She said she and the others needed to leave for a time for reasons she'd explain when she returned."
Imriel sighed, then shrugged it off and continued. "I haven't seen her since. If either of you have any ideas on how we might contact the deities, I am open to suggestions.... I feel as if I'm missing information that they can provide.. Things that should work, are not working. As far as it concerns experiments that involve the wandering spirits anyway. The palas are no longer resonating with the souls. I find that more and more Ieldi spirits are now rejecting the process. Mostly, the newest palas are born using the bare minimum amounts of cast off energies from the souls... You know, I think they- the souls- are angry at me," she murmured almost to herself. There was a pause before she began again, falling back to her no-nonsense tone.
"Your arrival has shown me.. or at least confirmed my personal misgivings. I was so pleased with myself before that I didn't want to be wrong.... but you are right, and I will not continue to pursue the inclusion of the wanderers with the pala birthings.. I think I've probably tweaked the formula enough that they can be born without that siphoned energy."
She lifted her head then, and decided to wait for their thoughts. She was gazing intently at each in turn as if weighing some inner debate.

"The Pantheon... I haven't seen any of them, or even heard of them in passing, for a year or two at least..." Odilen glanced over at Zayn for a moment. "Zayn and I were involved with events at another place, a tavern a good week's travel from here, about two years ago. While we were there, we heard mention of a horned, veiled woman who called herself Neru. It seemed to us, at the time, that it could only be our Neruheru... but we never saw her, or heard much more beyond that one story. Other than that... nothing."
The deities of Sabilasi had nearly always been present when they were children. It was a little startling to Odilen to actually think about how long it had been since she'd actually seen one of them in person. I hadn't really realized... "I'm not sure how to contact them either," she admitted. "When I - we - were little, it was as easy as catching someone and giving them a message. My little kyunru, Solstice, was blessed by Chronos when she was a fawn, and now she bears his sigil. I don't know if her closer connection would give her any special power to contact him or not. I've never asked."

Zayn nodded along at Odilen's quick retelling of the tale of Neru (and a possibly crazy moogle). It was the last he'd heard of the Pantheon in many years. "I can't say I've seen much of them at all," he sighed. "Only Chronos, when I was born."
The mention that Odilen's kyunru had some link to the god of time perked Zayn up. He'd always wanted to meet Chronos properly. He'd had only fuzzy memories and tales from his mother about a kind, reserved figure who aided her on the fateful night their Tree was destroyed.
"Well, if Solstice doesn't know where he is, maybe Imriel could devise a means of locating Chronos through Solstice? Um, nothing bad," he hastily tacked on, not wanting either lady to assume he was thinking of blood magic or entrail readings. More like - well, actually, he didn't know what magic really was like. Hopefully Imriel could suggest something.
Change the subject, change the subject!
"Uh, do we know if any other Kin have links to the Pantheon?" he asked. "More than one divine presence couldn't hurt...
Please not Neru or Siff. Please, anyone but those two.
