Actually, there is. :3 If you go to your profile settings page, I'm pretty sure you can select whether you see signatures or not.

Oh, I'm not sure if that applies to guilds or not. :O I just know there's an option when you My Gaia, Account Settings, Preferences, down near the bottom, you can click a little box to show all user images, or something like that. xD
