Alice nodded carefully and stood on her tippy toes to see the numbers. Harriet Fenmoore was awkward and shy with many things, but he was a thorough and good teacher when it came to necessary basics when he thought they'd keep his girls safe. The man had made absolutely sure that Bella and Alice could tell time - both on digital and regular clocks - as well as read and understand it. That had been just another thing he'd done to hopefully ensure the safety of his loved ones.
Staring at the times she was able to figure out when the buses came. "Do you know what time it is? They seem to come by here every........half hour." the final bit had been a bit drawn out as she'd tried to remember how to use the numbers right.

Kain thought for a few moments, he had left around 9...and spent an hour or so on that horrid bus full of people. He hadn't been out too long so it was possibly coming up to half past or they had just missed the half past bus. He took a guess, hoping it was the earlier time than the later. Luckily though, he knew for certain that any bus back would run striaght to town so it would take far less an hour return. "Well im hoping it should be around 10.20 now...that or we've just missed the bus, though i doubt it...i didn't hear it leave, or any traffic for that matter." Kain explained. The herald sighed before continuing"At least its only a half hour wait though....you should be back before midnight, reminds me of Cinderella"
The last comment was that from his first guardian. She had always read Kain stories as a fallen messenger, with the hope he would survive. He had been returned to safety late at night, and so the female was always commenting that the boy was something out of a fairytale.

Alice was pleased at this. "Cinderella is a nice story, I like it a lot. It's my favorite fairy story. Daddy reads me lots of those. They're pretty! He says there are some of those where he comes from but they are not so pretty." the child explained gleefully, bouncing on her toes a teeny bit. She was careful not to knock Kain over when she did this, though.
"I'm sure it will come soon!" she said with a nod and a huge smile. Ever optimistic, eh? And sure enough, their optimism proved correct! The bus was pulling up before them in a rather short while.

Kain laughed sensing the child's glee. It was enough to lock away all those bad memories for another time. He stepped up onto the bus still holding onto the girls hand. Lady Luck appeared to be smiling down on them that night, as the driver seeing nothing but children took pity on the two or at least ignored the fact that Kain hadn't even attempted to pay the fare. He smiled a little before speaking "Oh, so you like fairytales then! Well I think you'd make a wonderful Cinderella, you have the personality for it...and if your appearence is anything near as beautiful as your voice, then i havn't met anyone as beautiful." Kain paused before continuing "Do you want to pick a seat then" he motioned the rest of bus.

"Thank you," Alice blushed and smiled broadly as she spoke, looking around for a seat. She found a section of the bus that had four empty seats in a row - that would do nicely! They could sit down and her friends wings wouldn't be mussed! It would be bad if that happened. He had such pretty wings!
"We can sit here." she said, walking him to the seat. "Lots of room for your wings."
About that point, the child's slight forgetfulness and curiousity kicked in. "Did I ask your name yet or no? I forget things sometimes." she asked sheepishly.

Kain laughed. He had been wanting to ask that question for ages and yet while he was too shy to, the younger herald of the two had asked for him. "I don't think the question ever arose, Cinderella, my name is Kain Nigel, at your service. he bowed slightly before contining "What is your real name?". Only after posing the question did Kain sit down and stretch his wings. It was nice being around someone he cared for, that also cared for him too. Tamuril may care for him, but to be honest she wasn't really around enough to be called a friend. The bus set into motion giving its passengers a bump start. It wasn't the most confortable or stylish way of getting back but it was certainly the quickest way to get to town.

"I'm Alice." the girl told him cheerfully. "Daddy got my name from a book about a little girl who went to a place called Wonderland. It's a fun story." she told him cheerfully, sitting down as well. The girl was careful to sit so as not to muss his wings but still be close by.

"I don't beleive i've heard that one yet....whats it about?" he asked curiously. Kain never thought he would get onto the subjects of books with anyone. It was hard to relate with most, because many books had yet to have been translated for him, and even then they were hard to come by with Bethan around. 'Why waste money on scribbles! you can make your own' she always said. Bethan was lucky enough to have sight....just failed to use it.

"I didn't totally understand it. A little girl ends up in a place called Wonderland and everything's weird there, I remember that. There was a silly guy at a tea party, and the Queen accused people of things that weren't possible. And there was a cat. I remember that part." Alice said with a definitive nod.

Kain Nigel didn't really know the story, as he was never told it himself, though from the sounds of it, it was very confusing. Although this was the case, he made a note to read the book or at least listen to it, before dismissing it so completely. He didn't really want to comment, not knowing what to say, but to avoid the silence, he decided otherwise using the first thought that came into his head "That sounds, quite confusing, you must of read it a few times."

"No, only one or two times. Bella and Daddy read it to me mostly. I kept having trouble. But I'm trying! And getting better." The child declared with an assured nod and a smile.
Soon enough, the bus was letting them off at their destination. Alice carefully got off, holding onto Kain's hand and leading him. "There's a phone over here." she said, having seen an empty row of pay phones. She didn't see any out of order signs so they might actually work!
