Balcov shot Johnny a hard look. “You only need to fail once for this all to come crashing down so I’ll ask you not to be so flippant about it.” He said sternly before looking out the window t the indistinct shadows passing them.
“And no, I’m not worried about the overworld. I’ve requested that they not do anything with Voltaire’s body for religious reasons so we don’t have to worry about DNA testing and apart from the police now being extra vigilant about the rebel nuisance we have nothing to worry about. We used guns so all the witness saw was two rival gangs fighting.”
Balcov paused to consider the overworld teen that had seen their fight. “Still. We should send a team to eliminate the witness. He may not have understood everything that happened but it’s best not to leave loose ends.”
As they wove their way through the streets of the city Balcov surveyed his kingdom. He liked knowing that at his slightest whim any of the people he saw could have their fortunes made or destroyed. To have that much power was quite a heady feeling.
“So. Tell me.” Balcov said, turning to look at Johnny. “Have you received any word about the Rebel’s movements?”
~
“First they would need to find their way down here. Besides, Tala’s your average coward so he can run really really fast.” Kai said with a smirk as he stepped into Taki’s office.
“So what do you want us to do while we’re stuck down here then?” Kai asked, leaning against the wall beside the door. “Somehow or another I don’t think we can afford to all have a holiday. Not now that They know we have such a close eye on them.”
“And what’s this about you going up there? You won’t be able to get into the police station and especially not into the evidence locks. You aren’t that stealthy and your acting skills aren’t all that great either.”

"They appear to have lost their nerve," Johnny started, "We're hearing less and less reports about people openly supporting them, Sir."
He looked out the window into the darkness, as if looking for something. "But i wouldn't trust them. They could be up to something and this all a trick to weaken our defenses. If not, it may be a good time to make a decisive move against them."
Johnny grinned, "Either way, from the reports it looks like they are retreating back in on themselves. What happened today was a fluke."
~
Taki glanced at Kai. "Thanks so much for your support. It fills me with warm fuzzies all over," he stated blankly.
"I have my ways of doing things, Kai, and you should know better than to listen to a word i say to Red over there. I can't really steal eye witnesses now can i?"
Tala shrugged and examined his nails, "Its true, he lies to me all the time. I'm treated like dirt in this partnership."
Taki rolled his eyes at Tala before continuing, "I really just want to know how much s**t you guys are in because we really can't afford having anyone restricted down here. Its hard enough as it is now."
Taki sighed, "Which brings me to the next point, the troops need a morale boost. Preferably without attracting attention from the tyrants."

Issac watched impassively as a group of Rebel supporters were rounded up. He turned to Balcov, who was standing behind him. “I didn’t know there were so many within the confines of the city.” He commented. “I thought we’d be rid of them all by now.”
Balcov gave a humourless smile as he looked down on the hapless group of people. “Unfortunately the Rebels have a very attractive offer.” Balcov shrugged and turned away as the city guards opened fire on the crowd. “Thankfully, there are also very un-attractive drawbacks.”
Balcov sighed and loosened his shoulders before turning back to Issac. “I have a few tasks I need you to take care of. Can you see to it that those photos of the rebel group are delivered to the police station? Also- take care of that overworld boy who saw us yesterday. I don’t think he saw anything worth mentioning but it’s better to be safe than sorry.” Balcov reached over to his desk and took a file from it, handing it over to Issac. "I have a brief description of the boy there. He only gave his name and I was unable to take a photograph of him, so anything beyond that you will have to find yourself."
“Yes, sir.” Issac nodded before turning toward the door. He paused mid-stride and looked over his shoulder. “Is there anything else you wanted me to take care of, sir?” He asked.
Balcov shook his head. “No. That will be all.”
Issac nodded and continued heading toward the door, mind working. Since Voltaire’s untimely death a vacancy had opened as Balcov’s second in command. It always paid to bear that in mind.
Entering the main command centre, Issac looked for the flash of red hair that indicated Johnny’s location. He approached the redhead with a lazy smile. “I have a job for you.” He said, trying to sound enticing. “How would you like to go on a trip to the overworld?” He asked, handing the file Balcov had given him to Johnny.
~
Rei opened his eyes and blinked, waiting patiently for his eyes to adjust fully to the gloom again. Though he had lived in the underworld his entire life his dreams were always filled with the brightness of the sun, causing him temporary blindness every morning.
Once his eyes had adjusted, Rei sat up and looked around the small room he shared with the other members of his team. Nothing had changed from the night before and they were still stuck here.
“Hm?” Kai groaned as Rei’s movements stirred him from his sleep. “What are you doing, Rei?” He asked quietly, sleep very evident in his voice. “It’s not time to wake up yet.”
Rei looked fondly over at Kai’s form huddled up in the narrow bed against the opposite wall, marvelling at the other’s innate sense of time. It was as if the other had been born knowing exactly where the sun was in the world above his own. “Stay in bed then.” He whispered, swinging his legs over the side of his bed and standing up. “I’m going to go find Taki before he runs off. I’ll find out what he wants us to do today.”
So saying, Rei quickly pulled on some clothes and quietly left the room, Shutting the door behind himself.

Johnny glanced over at Issac and gave him a thorough looking over.
"You know," he started, "You really should work on your enticing skills. I could give you a few pointers, you'll be picking up people in no time."
The red-head grinned. "Now, whats this about a trip to the overworld? I'm like the sound of it already. Only cos i don't think there would be any talking to the masses involved."
~
Taki stared at the front door of the building the rebels occupied. He was contemplating whether to head out yet or wait until a sane hour in the morning.
"Hmm," he mumbled before turning on his heel and walking toward a couch and sinking into it face first. He wasn't really a morning person.
Nor did he have any idea why there was a couch in the front hallway. He assumed it was because no one could think of anywhere else to put it. They're hideout was relatively small, especially compared to that monstrosity the Tyrant's built, but it suited them well. Even though it was generally only the for of them in the place, most of the rooms were bedrooms. It was case any of the rebels outside of them needed somewhere to crash
He sighed. This wasn't getting him anywhere. Going to the overworld was depressing. Taki coveted the order up there. The overworlders could actually walk around without having to wear a gun, the lucky bastards.
He pushed himself up into a sitting position and went back to staring at the door. He'd wait a little bit longer and then go, giving himself a chance to wake up.

Issac rolled his eyes at Johnny. “The day I need pointers from you in anything will be a very very sad day.” He said dryly.
He flipped open the file Balcov had given him on the witness. “This boy...Noah Thomas... was a witness to the... events yesterday. Naturally, Balcov wants any one all loose end tied up. I want you to go to the overworld and find this boy. We only have a name and the description Balcov has given but that should be more than enough for someone of your skills, right?” Issac smirked and snaped the file closed, leaving it on the desk in front of Johnny. “Oh. Also.” He said, standing up straight again. “I want you to take Brooklyn.” He said carefully, naming the one person no one wanted to take on missions with them.
If Issac had a gift for organisation and Johnny had a gift for persuasion, Brooklyn had a gift for death. Not to mention that, in Issac’s opinion, the orange-haired male was a few sheep short in the top paddock. And was creepy.
“Hm? You said my name?” Brooklyn asked, appearing beside Johnny.
Point.
~
“I’m surprised you’re awake.” Rei said easily, sitting down next to Taki on the couch. “It’s early.” Rei looked over at the man they had appointed as their leader. “Worried? Or just not awake yet? He wondered out loud, combing his fringe out with his fingers unconcernedly.
“Of course.” He continued, still in a musing voice. “If you weren’t awake yet, why would your eyes even be open at this time in the morning? It’s not like we have alarm clocks like they do up there. Thus we arrive at the conclusion that you’re worried and had trouble sleeping because of said worry.” Rei looked sideways at Taki, a small grin on his face. “Am I even close?” He asked. “Or should I just shut up and make you something for breakfast?”

((*has been sitting here staring for the past couple of hours*))
Lilith turned the engine off in her car and looked over at her partner Bryan's parking space. Noticing that the shiny silver car was already there she frowned.
"Dammit," she mumbled. There was an ongoing agreement that whoever got to the station last was on coffee-making duty for the rest of the day. Bryan was always the first to arrive, no matter how early it was and Lilith always lost.
"I should resign and open a coffee shop with the amount of practice i've gotten," she said to herself, leaning back in her seat. There really was no rush to get out of the car now. Nor did she really feel like braving the outside world this early in the morning.
It was always cold. Always. No matter how warm the day got, Lilith would always be freezing in the morning. No to mention the temperature of the air-con in the office. Sometimes Lilith was surprised it didn't snow in there.
Bryan continually told her that she had really poor circulation and he thought the temperature was perfect but the guy was forgetting that he was huge and could basically double as a portable heater. Lilith was petite in comparison and didn't have enough body mass to fight of the temperature.
Her blood circulation probably was poor too but she wasn't going to admit that.
Lilith looked down at herself and picked at the dark scarf she was wearing.
I probably look like an idiot with this thing on.
She shook her head.
You're a homicide detective, not a fashion editor! No one really cares and it keeps your neck warm. If you were smart, you would stop trying to compete with Bryan, accept your coffee-making duty and sleep in like a normal person!
She nodded defiantly and opened her door, ready to brave the chilly morning weather.
Once inside, she made her way towards her desk that was situated just behind Bryan's. They had both had separate offices in the beginning but found that it was very inconvenient. They were forever walking up and down the hallway to confer notes or share moments of epiphany. They had a good set up here, both had their own space but It was so much easier to say something over your shoulder without having to get up.
Yes, they were both incredibly lazy when it came to walking anywhere.
"Morning Bryan," she said.
Bryan raised a hand up in greeting. Lilith put her stuff on her desk before wandering over to Bryan.
"So what are you up to this early in the morning? They couldn't have possibly sent the photos yet," Lilith asked.
Bryan answered without taking his eyes of his computer screen. "I was curious about that Balcov guy but i can't find him on any of the databases."
Lilith shrugged, "He's probably just never been in trouble with the law before."
"Oh no," Bryan shook his head, "I've gone beyond just our police data bases."
He turned to look at Lilith. "I mean he doesn't exist."
Her eyebrows shot up. "That's.... odd. Voltaire?"
"Nope," Bryan said turning back to the computer. "And i hope these suspects exist because otherwise we almost have non-existent case."
"And if that happens," Lilith said, "We're sure going to have fun explaining it."
~
Johnny jumped. No one could freak him out like Brooklyn could.
Scratch that, no one could freak out anybody like Brooklyn could.
"Brooklyn!" Johnny greeted over enthusiastically, "Where, where did you come from?" He looked around for any hiding spots that the other male could have been lurking in.
He should have know that would have been futile. He was sure the other one could just magically appear in puff of smoke.
He grabbed the file Issac had left on the desk and stood up.
"So, ready for some fun, Brooklyn?" He asked the boy standing beside him while inwardly cringing. The one time i would rather put up with Issac.
~
Taki turned his head to look at Rei at the word Breakfast.
"You make breakfast?"
Not being a morning person, Taki was never up in time for breakfast and so really had no clue as to what went on in the morning. If he was awake he was probably hiding in the office until lunch time.
"I suppose you could say i'm worried. I feel like things are starting to unravel, either that or i'm just having an unlucky streak."
Taki thought for a moment. "They say bad things come in threes, so i'm just waiting around for the third horrible thing to happen."

Brooklyn smiled benignly at Johnny, ignoring his question and looking down at the file the other redhead held. “Is this what we’re doing today?” He asked, taking the file smoothly from Johnny’s hands and running his fingers down the top page. Brooklyn looked up at Johnny, a slightly ghoulish gleam in his eyes. “It looks like fun.” He said, holding out the file for Johnny to take.
“When do we go?” Brooklyn asked, turning to Issac. “It’s been such a long time since I went to the overworld.” Brooklyn smiled as he thought about the last time he had been up there. The overworld had so much more life than the underworld.
For very good reason. Issac thought , giving Brooklyn a tight smile. “As soon as possible.” He answered, not letting the uneasiness show in his voice. “I’ll leave Johnny to arrange all the necessary equipment and notify the gatekeeper?” He said, not giving Johnny any options in the matter. “Oh. And Brooklyn?” Issac waited until he had the redhead’s full attention. “I don’t care how it’s done. Only that it’s taken care of and that no one can trace it.”
Brooklyn smiled happily in reply.
~
“I haven’t made breakfast yet. But I can.” Rei said, beckoning to Taki with his head toward the kitchen. “Considering how early it is I think cereal is in order.” Rei made a face. “Not that we really have anything else. When you’re up there today can you grab us some more of that chocolate cereal stuff? Kai won’t admit it but he’s addicted to the stuff.” Rei smiled as he looked over his shoulder at Taki. “I’d go to get some but... It seems I might be arrested or something.”
Rei shrugged and pulled out two bowls. He moved over to the pantry and opened the door, staring sadly at the near empty shelves. The underworld offered very little in the way of edible food and nothing in the way of pre-packaged, easy-to-store food. Thus, much of the food they ate was stolen from the overworld.
Rei sighed as he reached for a very beaten up package of cereal. “We need to go on a trip to get food soon.” He told Taki. “Otherwise we’re going to have to start eating that plant-thing again. You know the one that tastes like mouldy cardboard and smells worse?”

"Hm" Bryan grunted in response, "I'm not going to worrry about it yet though. At the moment I'd rather just focus on getting these photos and trying to identify the suspects."
Lilith nodded, "Fair enough. Where are those statements from yesterday?"
Bryan motioned to a folder lying on the desk next to him. Lilith picked it up and moved back to her desk to look over the statements. Until they had the photos later on in the morning, they only had these to read over, analyse and pick apart. This was Lilith's favourite part of the job.
Bryan enjoyed the chase. Nothing would please him more than to have those photos on his desk right now so that he could start looking for the bastards.
Bryan sighed, leaning back in his chair and rubbing the bridge of his nose. He was starting to think that maybe he should get more sleep in the morning and come to the office later on. People were only really starting to mill in now and he was sure that he'd have to wait longer for anything else to happen.
~
"Heh," Johnny said, taking the folder back from Brooklyn. He took a step away from the desk, and subsequently Brooklyn, and turned to Issac.
"I suppose i may as well start on the preparations now. Don't get all lonely by yourself now, Issac," he said before walking away to prepare. You lucky b*****d.
Brooklyn always had someone with him on his missions, just in case he got carried away. Not that anyone would be able to stop him if he did, Johnny thought to himself. He concluded that he was just around to clean up if Brooklyn got carried away with things. He really was scary. Apart from that, he was the best guy for these kind of jobs.
~
"Right," Taki said, following Rei, "Reconnaissance mission and chocolate cereal stuff."
He listed if off as he was trying to memorise it. Taki shuddered at the thought of the plant that Rei had just mentioned. "I try not to think about that thing."

Brooklyn followed Johnny, making sure to stay at least a metre behind the redhead. He was well aware of what the other redhead was thinking of him. Not that it really mattered in the scheme of things. What did matter was that, due to Johnny’s presence, Brooklyn could go to the overworld.
Brooklyn flexed his hands, a secret smile playing on his lips. Whatever restrictions put on him in his position were worth it for the few hours he got to spend in the overworld. The sheer vibrancy and life in the inhabitants of that place were worth any number of hours spent in the dark, dank underworld.
Brooklyn studied Johnny’s back, subconsciously noting the redhead’s vulnerable points. He hadn’t been on a mission with Johnny before. It was always interesting going on missions with new people simply to watch their reactions to him. They never failed to entertain.
~
Issac watched Johnny and Brooklyn go with a small smirk on his face before turning back to the terminal he had found Johnny at. He pressed a few buttons, calling up the most recent pictures of the main players in the rebel faction.
Pressing a few more buttons, Issac selected the clearest images and printed them. He grabbed the images and left the control room, mentally figuring out which gate was the closest to his current position.
Deciding, Issac exited the main building and began walking, head down so as not to attract the attention of some of the underworld’s more...unsavoury population.
~
Rei smiled as he put the full bowl of cereal in from of Taki. “The chocolate cereal is the most important bit.” He said seriously, putting a bowl down in front of himself. “Don’t worry about all that reconnaissance stuff.” Rei waved his hand dismissively. “You know it’ll work out fine. We’ll lie low for a few weeks and then it’ll blow over.”

Lilith read over the files in silence, ignoring the other staff members wandering through the office.
"Hi Lilith," said a chirpy voice. She looked up to see one of the girls at reception walk past waving to her.
"Hey Amy," she said and waved.
"Was that new girl in reception?" Bryan asked and turned around.
"Yeah," Lilith answered, "Happy isn't she?"
"Seems to have taking a liking to you," Bryan turned fully around in his chair.
"Oh Bryan," she turned to face him as well, "She's taking a liking to everyone if you hadn't noticed. Don't mingle in the office much do you?"
Bryan blinked. "She hasn't said anything to me."
"I'm sure she's even taking a liking to you. She's just that kind of person. She's probably too scared to say anything."
Bryan raised an eyebrow.
"What?" Lilith asked, "You are a very scary person you know."
Bryan lowered the eyebrow and narrowed his eyes.
"Oh don't give me that look, Bry, you know i can't read your mind when you do that."
Bryan raised both of his eyebrows then.
"Ok, i can read your mind sometimes but that's only because i've been around you too long and your predictable. Time i changed jobs i think."
He snorted and then turned around to face his desk.
Lilith sighed, and turned to face her desk as well. "You're right, i like this place too much to move now."
"That is so freaky."
Lilith looked up to see Amy standing near her desk watching the two of them.
"The way you two are having a conversation and only you, Lilith, are saying anything," Amy finished.
Lilith smiled and then shrugged. "It's what happens when you work with someone for too long. Take my advice and change jobs often."
Amy shook her head, amused, before walking back to the entrance of the building.
~
Johnny headed toward the part of the building where the weapons were kept. He'd notify the gatekeeper just before they were ready to head off.
He listed of the things they would need in his head before they actually got to the room. He looked over his shoulder at the other man that was following him.
"I forgot to ask," he started, "Do you have any preferences when it comes to weapons or not?"
~
"Mmm, that's true," Taki said, as he picked up a spoon, "I think i'll only look around to see if they have wanted posters of you guys yet. Se if it actually is ok for you guys to wander around up there."
He chewed on a spoonful of cereal while thinking. He was suprised his brain was working this early in the morning.
"Come to think of it," Taki said, "I think i just wanted an excuse to go up there. This place is seriously depressing."
He sighed and continued to eat.

Brooklyn paused for a second, a look of surprise on his face. Most people who had the dubious pleasure of working with him gave him no choice of weapon. They generally saddled him with a gun, his least favourite weapon. Brooklyn had always figured that it was their way of trying to control him and the amount of damage he could inflict.
He looked at Johnny for a second time, this time with a new, if not respect, tolerance. “I like knives.” He said quietly, looking around at the mostly unfamiliar hallways they were travelling down. Brooklyn couldn’t remember the last time he had been allowed this close to the weapons store. He was allowed access to the store whenever he was given a mission, obviously, but normally he was simply given his weapon. No one had thought that bringing Brooklyn close to any kind of stockpile of weapons was a good idea.
“Do you know if it’s going to be from close range or from a distance?” Brooklyn asked, casualness apparent in his voice, his mind already working on the problem of his newfound weapon-choice.
~
Issac stepped through the wall of a non-descript apartment in the overworld and shook himself irritably. He hated travelling between the two worlds. It always left him with a bad feeling in his stomach.
He pulled a map out of the pocket of his unfamiliar jacket and studied it briefly, locating the police station within the city. He stuffed the map back into his pocket, making a face. At least it was close. That mean he didn’t have to spend too long here. He much preferred the random chaos that made up the underworld to the strange order of the overworld. To Issac’s orderly mind the chaos was something real. Something he could make sense of. The order and serenity of the overworld seemed fake to him.
Issac pulled the jacket he had picked up from the gatehouse around him and left the apartment. He felt inside the pockets of the jacket absentmindedly, feeling for the photos. He only had one job to do.
Issac walked quickly through the cold sunlight of the overworld, scowling at anyone who dared to look at him. He didn’t like the cold. Though the underworld didn’t have a sun, the sheer number of people that inhabited it made it a constant warm, muggy temperature that was exactly to his liking.
Issac arrived at the police station, only slightly out of breath. He made his way up the steps and walked to the reception. He approached a smily looking girl, attempting to soften his features from a scowl into a neutral expression. “Hi. I’m here to drop off some pictures on behalf of Boris Balcov? He was involved in an incident yesterday and told the police he’d give them photos of the culprits today.”
~
Rei grinned as he began eating his cereal. “It’s not that bad here, is it?” He asked, looking over at Taki. “I mean, sure the overworld is nice to visit, and has some definite perks, but this is home, right?” Rei checked a clock above the doorway of the kitchen and smiled. “It’s almost sunrise which means...”
Kai stumbled into the kitchen. “Do we have anything caffeinated left?” He asked, plonking himself down next to Taki.

"Not sure, I'm guessing that we can get as close as we want or as far way as we want. Just as long as the job is done. Knives eh?" Johnny mused as they neared the room. He nodded at the guard standing just beside the doors before starting to go in.
Something the the guard did caught his attention. He had looked over Johnny's shoulder at Brooklyn and immediately his eyes widened and moved his hand closer to where his own gun was.
Johnny raised an eyebrow at the reaction and looked at Brooklyn. Surely the guard wasn't scared of the other male attacking? Brooklyn was unpredictable but he wasn't about to turn on anyone in here.
Then another thought crossed his mind. Maybe the guard was more worried about Brooklyn taking all the weapons and going wild?
As silly as it sounded in his mind, Johnny was having second thoughts about letting the orange haired man into the weapons room.
"Why don't you stay out here with the guard here, Brooklyn?" Johnny said, "I'll promise i'll be back with knives for you."
The gaurd's eyes turned to Johnny and widened considerably. Johnny smirked as he walked into the room, not sure if the gaurd's reaction was because he was left alone in the hallway with Brooklyn or because Johnny was going to give Brooklyn knives.
~
"Good morning," Amy said to Issac, "Oh! Bryan and Lilith will be happy. I think they've been waiting around all morning for these. I don't know why they have to be so early all the time."
Amy talked to everyone like she had known them for ages, babbling about anything. It was the thing that made her so suited to customer service and reception roles. She could smile and talk to just about anybody.
She smiled at Issac and took the photos from him. "Thank you, i'll hand them to them right away. Enjoy the rest of your day," she farewelled him cheerily before heading towards Bryan and Lilith's desk.
"Guess what," she said as she came over to the pair ,"You two have a present"
She placed the photos on Bryan's desk. Bryan looked up at her. "Thanks Amy," he smiled at her before focusing his attention on the photos.
"Your welcome," said Amy with a blush before heading back to the front desk.
Lilith ambled over to Bryan's desk to look at the photos over his shoulder.
"You know what?" Lilith said with a smirk, "I don't think she's scared of you, i think she has a silly school girl crush instead."
"Hmm?" Bryan asked, "Who's that?"
Lilith laughed, "Oblivious as always. Amy. Girl at reception, remember?"
"Oh, well good luck to her with that," he said blankly, "Now stop being flippant and look at these pictures, will you?"
"Yes, sir," Lilith mock saluted Bryan before looking at the photos.
~
"Mmm, home," Taki muttered.
Tala wandered in shortly after Kai. He slumped into the chair on the otherside of Taki and lay down on the table.
Taki looked at Kai, "Good morning Kai, suppose i'll have to put caffeine on my shopping list as well?"
He whipped his head around to stare at Tala and raised his eyebrows. "And why did you even bother getting up?!"
Tala 'mmf'-ed his reply at the other.

Brooklyn’s face fell slightly as he realised he wasn’t going to be allowed near the weapons store again. “Alright.” He said, disappointment clear in his voice.
To distract himself, Brooklyn turned his attention to the hapless guard. “What’s that look for?” He asked, sidling over to lean against the wall beside the guard, staying within arms reach of the other. “I am apparently on your side, you know.” Brooklyn said conversationally before looking sideways at the guard. “Besides, this?” He held up the gun the guard had been reaching towards. “Not likely to help you unless you can keep a hold on it.”
Brooklyn sighed and began taking the gun apart, “Until you can it’s a lot more dangerous to you than it is to me.” Brooklyn pocketed the bullets and gave the guard back his gun in pieces. “There. Much better.” He said, satisfied.
Brooklyn turned away from the guard, already bored with his game. It was no fun playing with idiots.
~
Issac blinked, surprised at the speed with which the photos had been taken off him. “...Alright then.” He said, turning around with a bemused expression on his face and walking out the door. He would never understand the workings of the overworld, he decided. It was much too alien for him to even contemplate.
Issac began walking quickly back to the portal he had come through, he was sure he could already feel the sun burning his skin.
~
“No. We’re good for caffeine.” Rei said cheerily, pulling out n industrial sized coffee tin. “We grabbed some a few days ago.” Rei began shuffling through the draws and pulled out two chipped mugs for Kai and Tala. “I don’t suppose you’d like some, Taki?” Rei asked as he began bustling around the kitchen, pouring water into a pot and setting it on the oven to boil. “Somehow I don’t think that you really want to be hyped up on coffee today.”
“Plus, while we were busy stealing that tin you were extremely busy doing a whole lot of nothing.” Kai told Taki matter-of-factly. “Therefore we deserve lots and lots of coffee.” He nodded, satisfied with his logic, before dropping his head back down to contemplate the grains of coffee sitting in the bottom of his mug.
Rei raised an eyebrow at Kai. The bluenette wasn’t at his best in the mornings. He looked over at Tala. “Taki’s right, why’re you awake? You’re never up this early. Isn’t being awake at this time like against your religion or something?”

The guard grimaced. Not sure of his voice enough to say anything.
Johnny walked out of the weapon room with everything he needed. He glanced at the guard and raised an eyebrow. He was sure the guard looked more startled than before he entered the room.
He shrugged and handed Brooklyn a bundle of cloth containing a set of knives.
"Better get this over and done with," Johnny said before heading off. He just had to inform the gatekeeper to expect the two of them and then they were off.

"Aw," Lilith began after looking at each photo, "How come all the criminals are cute?"
Bryan slowly turned his head so he could stare at his partner.
"What? Just because you don't think about things like that doesn't mean that i can't," she said picking up one of the photos.
Bryan shook his head at her.
"So, why do we have four photos when there are three suspects?" she asked, studying a man with odd facial markings. She furrowed her eyebrows in though, wondering if they were real tattoos or just face paint. They certainly were striking.
"Because," Bryan started, "It appears that Balcov also knew who the ringleader of the whole thing is." He picked up another photo and turned it over to check the details.
"Ah, here he is, Takiran Kinsley," he offered the photo to Lilith who took it,"He wasn't at the scene when the shooting happened. That was these three, Rei Kon, Tala Ivanov and," he flicked the photo Lilith had picked up first, "Kai Hiwatari."
Lilith nodded and studied the two males in her hands. "Geez, do these two look moody or what?"
Bryan shrugged. "Not my concern. We'll have to ring that kid, Noah, later on. Get him to come in and tell us if these were the right people. Then we're practically on our way to getting a warrant and arresting them."
"I can just hear the joy in your voice at the words 'warrant' and 'arrest'," Lilith said, putting the photos down on the desk, "And i'm not being sarcastic."
Bryan smirked.

"I'm fine, thank you Rei," Taki told Rei before turning to Kai and bapping him on the back of the head. "I'll have you know that i am actually doing work while you're away. Someone has to wade through all the paperwork and organize things."
Taki wasn't the most agreeable person in the morning either. Unlike Tala who was extremely sluggish.
The red-head grunted again before answering. It was so low and muffled that only Taki managed to just hear it.
"Don't like the dark when i'm alone. Normally Taki is still in there when you lot leave."
If Taki had anything in his mouth, he would have sprayed it out after he understood what Tala said. He threw his head back and laughed loudly.
Tala, frigtened by the noise, jumped up and looked around. "Wha-? What did i miss?"
He turned to find Taki, head leaning on his hand, staring at him with an amused expressing. The expression alone was enough to frighten Tala.
"That one is going to come back and bite you," Taki said calmly.
Tala blinked, unsure of what Taki was talking about before it dawned on him.
"You didn't happen to hear what i said did you?" He asked worriedly.
Taki wiggled his eyebrows in response.
"s**t," Tala said.

Brooklyn adjusted his grip on the bundle of knives before beginning to follow Johnny. He paused and turned to wave to the guard. “It was nice talking to you.” He said sweetly before turning back and continuing walking.
“So, tell me.” Brooklyn began, unrolling the bundle and inspecting the knives Johnny had procured for him as they walked. “Do we know anything more about the target than what’s in that file?” He asked, pulling out some of the smaller knives.
Brooklyn whistled lowly as he inspected the knives, turning them so the little light that was in the room seemed to dance off the blades. “You picked well.” He said approvingly as the smaller knives disappeared into various places on his person. Brooklyn paused as he reached the last, and largest, knife. “Anyway, That file didn’t say anything about the target’s whereabouts and we can’t really rely on the give spelling of ‘Thomas’ to look him up in the phonebook.”
Brooklyn pulled the last knife halfway out of its sheath and gave it a brief looking over. He touched his finger lightly to the edge of the knife, a delighted expression appearing on his face when a thin red line appeared. He resheathed the blade and tucked it into his jacket. “These will do nicely.” He said contentedly to himself.

Noah threw an arm over his eyes in an attempt to ignore the rays of sunlight that insisted on finding their way through his firmly shut blinds. He groaned softly and rolled over, trying to catch those last few seconds of sleep.
He failed miserably.
He sighed softly as he rolled over again and sat up, trying to shake the cloudiness of sleep off. He looked over at the clock and sighed, rubbing his face with one hand. He really needed to fix those blinds. Every morning they were responsible for waking him up at the crack of dawn.
Noah swung his legs over the side of his bed and stood, ignoring the brief headspin he got from the change in altitude. He looked around his barren room. After coming home the night before, he had thrown some kind of lame excuse at his mother before crashing into bed. He hadn’t wanted to be awake. Not being awake meant that he didn’t have to deal with what had happened yesterday.
Noah walked out of his room and into the kitchen. His mother had left a note on the bench before she had left for work telling him how worried she was about him. Noah sighed and crumpled the note before throwing it into the bin. He set about making himself breakfast. No matter what happened his mother was always worried about him. This wasn’t anything new or different.

Rei jumped when Taki started laughing. “I’m going to regret that I missed that, aren’t I?” He asked, taking the cups, ignoring Kai’s half-hearted protest, and filling them with the freshly boiled water. He gave the cups back to Kai and Tala, pouring the excess water out.
Kai took a large gulp of his coffee, putting it down really quickly. “Ouch.” He said with as much dignity as a burnt tongue can give. “Hot.”
Rei put his hand over his mouth to cover his smirk. “Boiled water tends to be.” He said once he had managed to force down the threatening laughter completely.
Kai shot him a half-hearted glare before turning to Taki. “Aren’t you going sometime soon?” he asked irritably. “By the time you get there you won’t have to do any sleuthing. They’ll have wanted posters plastered all over the city.”
