For the Fire Lord ruling as long as he had, the Fire Nation must've been at least partially as organized as she claimed. While he had no idea that the exact masquerade she spoke of was to celebrate that ruler, he knew from his parents that the current Lord had been in power since he was very, very young. "I guess so," was the closest thing to agreeing with her.
As soon as she asked, he felt like he'd been waiting for that question. He knew that, for once, his mom would probably be okay with letting him go. After all the Spirit Day Festival was a celebration of unity between the nations and if he could learn anything good from that, she would be ecstatic. "..... Really?" he asked, actually sounding tentative. "I wanna get out of here."

Ina nodded, putting a hand on his shoulder-- she certainly knew what it was like to want to travel and find something new. Though, she had more trouble with the occasional desire to stay in one place for longer than a couple weeks. It was hard to make friends when you could only see them a few times a year.
"Really really," she grinned, "If you can't afford passage you can always do a bit of work for your fare-- there's always something that needs doing on a ship."

A thoughtful expression sat on his features. The idea of working for his fare to the festival wasn't something he disliked. It was quite the opposite, in fact. Always supported by his parent's wealth, he often felt smothered. They never let him do things for himself like he wanted. Sure, he was still young, but that didn't stop him from believing he was strong enough to stand on his own.
"I..." biting his lip, he decided to play the white-liar. Ina didn't need to know the kind of family he came from and that he could, quite easily, afford to pay her even more than she would probably ask. "I can work for the ride," he told her, sounding decided.

The girl clapped her hands together excitedly, "Oh! Fantastic!" she beamed, "You can help me with my chores. I think that'd be the best. I don't think the sailors would like you getting underfoot, and washing dishes is really icky."
She looked about, "Well, we'll set off sometime next week, probably. I don't know for sure when, though. Maybe make sure you stop by tonight and I'll tell you, 'cause my parents will probably know then."
After they'd shipped off most of their wares, they'd know when they'd be leaving. It'd definitely be in time for the festival. "You'll be fantastic at it, too. Water Benders always make the best sailors."

"Yeah, okay." Whatever she said. Of course, helping with chores was probably for the best. After all, he had little to no skills when it came to that sort of thing. Anyu had never sailed before in his life. At least not that he could remember. Although he could do dishes. Being the youngest, he got stuck with that dirty job many times. His siblings liked to leave globs of unknown substances on their plates when it was his night to wash. Grimacing, he shook his head. At least he would have the balancing part down. That was one thing he was actually good at.
"I guess I'll... let my mother know, then." A slight dread felt him. He still wasn't so sure she'd let him go at all. Well, if she approved or not, he would go. He would probably feel bad later, but he would go. Turning to wander home, he was stopped by her next words. Yeah, a lot of the benders in his tribe were wonderful sailors. He wasn't one of them, nor was he really any good at bending at all. But he would never reveal that fact to her now. "You bet," he answered, tossing her a little wave before running back towards his house.
"I'll meet you back here tonight!" he called to her as he went. She has said tonight, right? A week seemed like such a short time to prepare, but he knew it wouldn't last long.
