@chaos - I think it's the same in most of england, although I can't say for certain. If anyone else is from europe...let me know what anime is like there! lol There's just so much culture difference between England and America in EVERYTHING sweatdrop

Alright, I feel so behind now. xd
First I must agree with Blade and Sliph on the recycling. I don't think I ever saw an actual "trash can" every one I saw had its own purpose for recycling. I'm fairly sure the only thing they don't recycle is their food and even then there is always the possibility....

As far as the children go...Oh my god they are so freaking adorable in those yellow safety hats! And I must agree with Blade, there is a very strong possibility that they are indeed robots. xd

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but the Japanese are crazy when it comes to cell phones! One thing that was popular while I was there (which has been about a year and a half now, so I'm not sure if it's still a fad) was collecting cell phone charms and putting them on your cell phone, and men and women did this. One of my friend's pin pals had to have had well over 15 cell phone charms on her phone, it was crazy! And this kind of relates, but they always seem to know right when to get off the subway, whether they are texting, reading, listening to music, or even sleeping, they somehow know right when to get off the subway.

Shadow: Well as far as America's interest in Japan goes, there has been an upsurge in "otaku" (even though it's really just anime junkies) population over the past couple of years. I like to blame it on the large amounts of things that kds grew up with that came from Japan, like Pokemon, Digimon, and now Naruto, and all of the game systems comming from Japan that seem to get children more interested in Japan. I think that's part of the reason there has been an increase in interst over Japan, that and most people on this site are going to be somewhat interested due to the fact that it's an anime based site. sweatdrop

(Oh, and Blade I just want to let you know, if you're anything like me you will end up missing Japan much more than you thought you would. sweatdrop *Longs for June* So close, yet so far... T__T)

well animes isn't big over here...there's only geeks who really know what it is and like it....and kids who like pokemon etc. But pokemon and other similar shows were only shown here in the early 2000s, so it's there won't really be any adults who grew up with it.
It is now time for the lore sage to step in. "Anime" as it is known has been popular since the eighties, With shows like Robotech, Saint Seiya, and VOLTRON (formerly Go-lion) having a fair say amonst the Hanna-Barbara and Gene Deitrich cartoons, although it's had a decent representation as early as the sixties. Big-O, Cowboy Bepop, and Outlaw star have been playing on Adult swim since its inception (and my childhood), although the content now is considerably different than its bygone days.
To speak pointedly, there are a far greater amount of people in America than whatever middle or high school your analysis is taken from, and many of us like the anime.

dude, I'm from ENGLAND...so my analysis isn't taken from a high school or middle school. Anime is a new thing here and it's only really "geeks" who are interested in it. Most people probably wouldn't even know what it was if it weren't for the internet. I've never even heard of the shows you mentioned. I'm 20, and there certainly wasn't any anime around when I was a kid.
Well, as we all know, England hardly counts for anything.

so there.

Well America has it in it's head that it rules the world...just cause it throws it's weight around...the biggest ones always do...little does it know twisted

Blade: Honshu.. doesn't sound familiar, but it's not like I've memorized the names of all the districts or whatever, there's just too many. I was wandering Shinjuku and Akihabara n'stuff looking for recycling bins.

Chaos: Yeah, crazy phone accessories, I saw a few where I didn't even know there was a phone, it was just this mass of..joy hanging from her backpack. Then she started talking to it. So I can only assume it was a crazy phone or she was just crazy..
*Cough cough* Honshu is the main island of Japan.... You know, the one where Tokyo is.

I think that might be cheating Blade. xd

Pictar 2: This one!

This is a picture of a poster that is advertising for Japan's Defense force. I just found their "To the Future" slogan and the style of the poster to be comically amusing.

Something's strangely familiar about that plane...

Yup, that's an F-15 D. I guess since we're largely done with them....

Anyhoo. I'm not sure about America thinking that it's in charge... certainly the bossman does, but the rest of us aren't too keen on the idea.

Personally, I blame the moon.

Yeah me too. I guess it's fine though, although it's kinda like saying I'm gonna go walk around Africa for bit, be back in a few. ...or at least it would but now I notice that he wrote touring, not walking.

My favorite thing about Japan: Book Off. Once you buy a volume of manga for 105 yen (roughly $1 US on a good day) there's no going back.

Can't say I've done that, probably because it would lead to me being broke..

Oh yeah, don't you guys think the train is pretty cheap ? Sometimes I would just take 2000Y and go on an all day train ride.... though you could easily do that with like what ..I think the cheapest ticket is 78Y or something, but you can't really leave the boarding area if you do that.

eek Dude, YES!!! Thank you for bringing up Book Off! When we found that store in Kyoto, it was one of the greatest days of the trip, because from then on out every major city we went to we had to find the Book Off. If it was just manga for one dollar, I would have been happy but not too estatic, but the fact that they also carried video games, music, and movies for cheap, that was what got me hooked. Book Off: Best Japanese store ever! Condomania is an entertaining store, just because it's so ridiculous, I mean they have a smiling/dancing condom on their logo. While it's not the best store for buying cheap nerd stuff, its logo is special enough to warrant a mention. xd

The subways were super cheap, and efficient to boot. When we went to Nara it was going to like $80-$100 or something like that to go with the group, but we just ended up taking the subway and spending closer to $20. mrgreen

Has anyone been to a Family Mart? I ask this because they have a very good sales strategy. One night when my friends and I were in Kyoto, we got lost on our way back to the hotel and we stoped in at a Family Mart to ask for directions. The person working there then told us what was believed to be the way back to our hotel, and after following the directions we wondered across another Family Mart so we decided to get new directions to make sure we were headed the right way. Once we got those directions and followed them we came across another Family Mart, and when we entered we noticed that it was the same Family Mart that we started at. They had traped us in a circle of Family Marts! But to give the story a happy ending, we went outside, asked the nearest police officer on bike for directions and made it back to the hotel safely. And everyone lived happily every after, the end! biggrin xp

I paid about $200 for a 3 month pass from where I live in Sapporo to my school. It's really convenient, because I live really far from school. My route covers the two main stops in Sapporo. So any day of the week, I can go to half of Sapporo for free. Three months for $200, it was a steal.

Well, all the important stuff is within walking distance of anywhere I can ride on the train. Anything that isn't, ISN'T IMPORTANT evil
